Chapter 236: Chapter 129: The Lying Patient, Aseptic Necrosis_3

Zhou Can asked.

Dr. Shan thought for a mont and blurted out, “Could it be like the forensic drama I’ve been watching recently, where the patient is hiding a cri?” Unexpectedly, she had this interest.

Most young won like to watch romance and soap operas.

Perhaps related to her profession, the type of drama she enjoyed was forensic deduction.

“By intentionally delaying the ti of injury, one could escape criminal suspicion!”

Seeing Zhou Can puzzled, Dr. Shan added another sentence.

It was an eye-opener.

Zhou Can thought about it, and it indeed seed possible.

Otherwise, why would the patient lie?

“Should we report the patient’s information to the police for investigation?”

Zhou Can asked her for guidance.

The hospital had this obligation.

In cases of drug use, gunshot wounds, knife attacks, or beatings, it was necessary to call the police promptly to help maintain public order.

So criminals, injured, dare not go to major hospitals but instead go to small clinics to buy so dicine and treat their wounds on their own.

Because they feared the doctors, noticing anything unusual, would secretly inform the police.

“Reporting to the police for an investigation is always the right choice. You should directly call the police, no need to dial 110, here is the phone number for the local police station.”

She pointed to a business card, inconspicuously placed on the office desk.

Zhou Can imdiately dialed the police, to report the situation of the patient.

The rest would naturally be handled by the police.

He continued to ponder the patient’s surgical concerns.

While deep in thought, he noticed the date on the X-ray films which brightened his eyes.

These films were from two days ago.

Two days had passed; had the patient’s bones changed?

“Dr. Shan, do you think the patient needs another X-ray examination before the surgery?”

“The hospital considers the treatnt costs of the patients, typically conducting exams when admitted and not repeating the sa test within three days. After the surgery, an X-ray is needed at discharge to review the healing of the fracture site.”

She was looking down at today’s surgical patient’s dical records and reports.

Zhou Can could only review the X-ray films taken two days ago of the patient.

As he looked, a thought suddenly struck him.

He imdiately brought up an X-ray film of another patient with femoral head necrosis for comparison.

This comparison revealed a slight discovery.

Mr. Zhao’s talus seed to already show signs of avascular necrosis.

Without careful comparison with other necrotic bone films, this subtle abnormality was hard to notice.

Several contraindications exist for talar bone fracture internal fixation surgeries, any presenting feature making surgery unsuitable.

The first type, unsuitable local skin conditions for surgery. Second type, old fractures deford healing. Third type, already presenting avascular necrosis of the talus. Fourth type, severe comminuted fractures.

Zhou Can seriously suspected the onset of avascular necrosis in the patient’s talus.

This was a significant discovery.

It must be reported imdiately.

Discovering before surgery, as opposed to after, held entirely different implications.

“Dr. Shan, do you see signs of avascular necrosis in this patient’s talus?”

Zhou Can was just an intern, technically supposed to report to Dr. Tang or Dr. Hee.

But his status was sowhat special, given his proven ability.

Moreover, with Dr. Shan present, he directly went over the normal reporting hierarchy.

This wasn’t the first ti he had done such a thing.

“No way? The teachers and I, even Dr. Chi, have looked at the films and didn’t spot any issues.”

Dr. Shan was sowhat skeptical.

She walked over to Zhou Can’s computer to take a closer look.

“I’m limited in my ability to tell; however, this matter is serious, I’ll call Director Shen.”

She called Director Shen on the spot.

“Teacher, it’s Shan Dan, I’m sorry for the disturbance.”

“Our Zhou Can from the team, upon reviewing the patient’s information, suspects avascular necrosis in the talus for a patient scheduled for internal fixation surgery this morning. I carefully looked at the films and couldn’t be sure, so we need your further evaluation.”

Not long after hanging up, Director Shen arrived at the hospital.

He went straight into the office.

“Xiao Zhou has sharp eyes indeed. So many of us didn’t spot the problem, and you discovered it. Regardless of the result, this ticulousness and caution are comndable.”

Director Shen praised him as soon as he entered.

Then he carefully examined the patient’s films.

Minutes later, his expression grew more solemn.

“There indeed are signs of avascular necrosis, although very mild. Let’s take another X-ray of the patient and I’ll make a final determination.”

Since the patient was scheduled for the operating room at 9 AM.

The examination had to be expedited.

Director Shen personally issued the urgent test request, and the dical technology departnt dared not delay.

Soon enough, the patient’s film erged, showing more apparent signs of avascular necrosis.

“My goodness, it really is avascular necrosis. Lucky it was discovered in ti, otherwise, even if the surgery had been completed, it would have failed.”

Director Shen broke into a cold sweat.

“Xiao Zhou, very well done.”

Director Shen praised him and then provided a treatnt plan.

“First, inform the patient and prepare him and his family ntally. From the current situation, the necrosis of the talus has just occurred recently and is still in the early stages; the surgery can be adjusted based on the actual condition. Possibly just fixing the ankle with plaster after the surgery might solve it. If more severe, transplanting bone marrow stem cells could also cure it.”

Director Shen said, frowning, pondering deeply.

“It’s strange, theoretically, with only three days after the injury, it shouldn’t have necrosed so quickly!”

Dr. Shan, listening by the side, laughed, “Dr. Zhou really is incredible. He ntioned early in the morning that the patient might have lied about the timing of the injury. I suspected the patient was covering a criminal suspicion, so I let Zhou Can report the situation to the local police station.”

Director Shen suddenly realized.

He slapped his forehead.

“No wonder, I was saying how could the talus necrose so quickly without even three days passing? Nowadays, being a doctor is really exhausting! In addition to treating, we also need to have so detective skills. Who would have thought, over such a trivial matter, the patient would indeed lie!”

Her comnt made everyone smile.
