Thursday, 1:00 PM. The Georgetown Townhouse.
The study was quiet, the tension of the morning having been replaced by an eerie calm. I stood by the window, watching the rain-soaked streets of Georgetown, my mind racing. The clock was ticking, and I had two hours until I needed to leave for The Minotaur Club. I had a lot to do before then.
I turned to face the room. Victoria and Sofia were huddled together, their heads bent over a laptop, no doubt discussing our next financial move. Darius was on the phone, pacing back and forth, coordinating our security. Ethan was passed out on the leather sofa, still dressed in his rumpled suit, a half-empty bottle of whiskey on the floor beside him.
Nia was at her workstation, her fingers dancing over the keyboard, her eyes locked on the screen. She was rebuilding her defenses, reinforcing our digital fortress, making sure Locke couldn’t sneak in again.
I walked over to her, my footsteps echoing in the silent room. She didn’t look up, her focus completely absorbed in her work.
"Nia," I said softly, placing a hand on her shoulder.
She jumped, her eyes flying to mine, her face pale. "Jake," she gasped, her voice shaking. "You scared ."
I smiled, giving her shoulder a gentle squeeze. "I’m sorry. I didn’t an to. How are you holding up?"
She took a deep breath, her eyes darting back to the screen. "I’m okay. I’m just... I’m trying to process what happened. The Oracle... it was terrifying. It was like... it was like facing a god."
"It was," I agreed, my voice grim. "But we can’t let it scare us. We need to use it. We need to use it to win this war."
Nia nodded, her fingers resuming their dance over the keyboard. "I know. I’m just... I’m trying to figure out how to integrate it into our systems. I an, it’s a God Engine, Jake. It’s not ant to be used like this."
"I know," I said, my voice firm. "But we don’t have a choice. We need to make it work for us. We need to use it to take down the Cabal."
Nia looked up at , her eyes filled with determination. "I’ll make it work. I won’t let you down, Jake."
I smiled, giving her shoulder another squeeze. "I know you won’t. Now, get so rest. You’ve been at this for hours. I need you at your best tonight."
She nodded, leaning back in her chair, her eyes closing for a mont. "Okay. I’ll take a quick nap. Wake up in an hour."
I watched her for a mont, then turned to face the room. Victoria and Sofia were still deep in conversation, their voices low. Darius was off the phone, his arms crossed over his chest, his eyes locked on .
"Jake," he said, his voice steady. "A word."
I nodded, following him out of the study and into the hallway. He closed the door behind us, his eyes serious.
"Jake," he said, his voice low. "What happened in there... that was dangerous. That was reckless. We can’t keep playing with fire like that."
I t his gaze, my expression unchanging. "I know what I’m doing, Darius. I know the risks. But we don’t have a choice. We need to use every tool at our disposal to win this war."
Darius shook his head, his jaw clenched. "That thing... it’s not natural, Jake. It’s not right. We can’t keep using it like this."
"We can," I said, my voice firm. "And we will. I won’t let anything stop from taking down the Cabal. Not even a God Engine."
Darius looked at for a mont, then nodded, his expression grim. "I understand. I just... I just want you to be careful, Jake. I don’t want to lose you."
I clapped him on the shoulder, giving him a reassuring smile. "You won’t. I promise. Now, let’s get ready. We have a lot to do before tonight."
We walked back into the study, the heavy door clicking shut behind us. The room was silent, the air thick with tension. I looked at the clock. It was 2:00 PM. I had one hour until I needed to leave.
I walked over to the sofa, shaking Ethan awake. He groaned, his eyes fluttering open, his face pale.
"Wake up, Ethan," I said, my voice firm. "We have work to do."
Ethan groaned again, sitting up slowly, rubbing his temples. "What do you need, Jake?"
"I need you to stay here. I need you to keep an eye on things, make sure everything runs smoothly while I’m gone."
Ethan looked up at , his eyes filled with relief. "Are you sure, Jake? I don’t mind going with you i will wait outside."
"I’m sure," I said, giving him a reassuring smile. "I need you here. I need you to keep things under control."
Ethan nodded, leaning back on the sofa. "Okay. I’ll stay here. I’ll make sure everything is taken care of."
I turned to face the room, my eyes locking onto Sofia. She was sitting at the desk, her dark eyes watching intently. I walked over to her, my heart pounding in my chest.
"Sofia," I said, my voice soft. "I need to talk to you. Alone."
She looked at for a mont, then nodded, standing up and following out of the study and into the hallway. I led her up the grand staircase, my mind racing. I knew what I wanted to say, what I wanted to do. But I also knew that this was a risk. This was a deviation from the plan. But sotis, plans needed to be broken.
We reached the top of the stairs, the hallway stretching out before us, the grand bedrooms on either side. I turned to face her, my heart in my throat.
"Sofia," I said, my voice steady. "I need you. I need you to help prepare. I need you to help get ready for tonight."
She looked at , her eyes filled with confusion. "Jake, what are you talking about? What do you need help with?"
I took a deep breath, my eyes locked onto hers. "I need you to help get into character. I need you to help beco Julian Vance. I need you to help beco the man who can sit down with the Cabal and take them down."
Sofia looked at for a mont, then nodded, her expression serious. "Okay. I can do that. What do you need to do?"
I reached out, my hand cupping her cheek. "I need you to kiss . I need you to kiss like you an it. I need you to kiss like you’re Julian Vance’s lover. I need you to kiss like you’re saying goodbye."
Sofia’s eyes widened, her breath catching in her throat. But she didn’t hesitate. She stepped closer, her hands gripping my shoulders, her lips finding mine in a searing, passionate kiss. I kissed her back, my arms wrapping around her, pulling her close. I lost myself in the kiss, in the feel of her body pressed against mine, in the taste of her, the sll of her, the sound of her soft moan against my lips.
When we finally pulled away, we were both breathless, our hearts pounding in our chests. Sofia looked at , her eyes filled with desire, with need, with love.
"Jake," she whispered, her voice hoarse. "I can’t... I can’t do this. I can’t kiss you like that and then just walk away. I need you. I need you now."
I looked at her, my heart in my throat. I knew what she was saying. I knew what she wanted. And I wanted it too. I wanted her. I needed her.
I took her hand, leading her down the hallway to my bedroom. I closed the door behind us, locking out the world, locking out the war, locking out everything but us.
I turned to face her, my eyes locked onto hers. "Sofia," I said, my voice soft. "I need you. I need you now."
She stepped closer, her hands reaching for the buttons of my shirt. I helped her, our fingers tangling, our breaths coming in short, sharp gasps. We undressed each other, our clothes falling to the floor, our bodies pressing together, our hearts beating as one.
I picked her up, carrying her to the bed, laying her down gently. I looked at her, her dark hair spread out on the pillow, her dark eyes watching , her body bare, her skin flushed. She was beautiful. She was mine.
I joined her on the bed, my body covering hers, my lips finding hers in a soft, gentle kiss. I explored her body with my hands, with my lips, with my tongue. I tasted her, I teased her, I pleasured her. I made her moan, I made her gasp, I made her cry out my na.
And when she was ready, when she was begging for , I entered her, my body joining with hers, my heart joining with hers. We moved together, our bodies in sync, our hearts beating as one. We made love, slow and steady, our bodies pressed together, our eyes locked onto each other’s.
And when we finally ca, it was together, our bodies shuddering, our hearts exploding, our souls intertwined. We lay there, our bodies entwined, our hearts beating as one, our love complete, our love absolute.
Thursday, 4:30 PM. The Georgetown Townhouse.
I lay in bed, Sofia’s body curled against mine, her head resting on my chest. We were both quiet, our minds lost in thought, our bodies still tingling from our lovemaking. I looked at the clock, my heart sinking. I had to leave soon. I had to go to The Minotaur Club. I had to face the Cabal.
I sighed, my hand stroking Sofia’s hair. "I have to go soon," I said, my voice soft.
She looked up at , her dark eyes filled with concern. "I know," she said, her voice just as soft. "I wish you didn’t have to go. I wish we could just stay here, like this, forever."
I smiled, my heart aching. "I wish we could too. But we can’t. We have a war to win. We have a future to fight for."
She nodded, her eyes serious. "I know. I just... I worry about you, Jake. I worry about what’s going to happen tonight."
I cupped her cheek, my thumb brushing away a tear. "I know. But I promise you, I’ll be careful. I’ll be smart. I’ll co back to you."
She leaned into my touch, her eyes closing for a mont. "Okay," she whispered. "I trust you. I know you’ll co back to ."
I pulled her close, my lips finding hers in a soft, gentle kiss. "I love you, Sofia," I whispered. "I love you more than anything. I’ll co back to you. I promise."
She smiled, her eyes filled with love. "I love you too, Jake. I’ll be waiting for you. I’ll be here, waiting for you to co back to ."
I held her for a mont, my heart aching, my mind racing. Then, I pulled away, sitting up, my body tensing, my mind focusing. It was ti to go. It was ti to face the Cabal.
I stood up, my eyes locked onto Sofia’s. "I have to go," I said, my voice firm. "I have to go to The Minotaur Club. I have to face the Cabal. I have to take them down."
She nodded, her expression serious. "I know. I’ll be here, waiting for you. I’ll be here, waiting for you to co back to ."
I leaned down, kissing her one last ti. Then, I turned and walked out of the room, my heart heavy, my mind focused, my body tense. I had a war to win. I had a future to fight for. I had a love to co back to.
And I would. I would co back to Sofia. I would co back to her, no matter what it took. I would co back to her, and we would build our future together. We would build our future, side by side, hand in hand, heart to heart.
She was the first Milf he had conquered and the first woman he had loved.
