About thirty minutes later, the door creaked open and Clara stepped out, cheeks flushed red like a tomato, her eyes carefully avoiding mine.

She slid into her chair, took down the ’At Lunch’ sign, and threw a quick glance.
"You said it’s gonna expire in an hour?" she whispered.

She cleared her throat and lowered her voice so much I had to lean in to hear her.
