"Alright, alright, I get it!"
Liu Nan imdiately made a zipping motion across his lips, signaling that he would keep quiet.
The car ca to a smooth stop, and the window rolled down.
Chen Yuan raised an eyebrow. "What are you waiting for, you two young masters? Get in, will you?"
"Stealing the passenger seat again? I haven’t even had a turn yet!"
Seeing how comfortable Liu Nan looked, Quan Yafeng raised a fist and shook it at him.
"Hey, it’s not my fault! I ca out with Yuan, so I can’t exactly talk to him from the back seat."
"I’ll let you off this ti. But when we head back to school, I’m definitely taking the front seat."
After so friendly bickering,
all four of them were in the car, drinks in hand.
Aside from Wei Zhen, who was a bit quiet, the atmosphere among the friends hadn’t changed much. They were still joking and ssing around.
"Oh man, I love lemonade," Liu Nan said, sticking a straw in and taking a huge gulp.
"You’re off work?" Wei Zhen asked Chen Yuan, leaning forward from the back seat.
"Yeah, I’m off. They don’t really need for the current project, but it might get a little busier in a couple of days."
"Then how co you’re not with Jiangg?"
At the ntion of Jiangg Ning, the others’ expressions all shifted. They were envious and jealous of Chen Yuan, but mostly, they were just curious.
They wouldn’t have been interested in prying into a normal relationship.
But this was Jiangg Ning!
A stunning beauty, a university professor, a gentle older-sister type!
"A guy can’t be with his girlfriend every single day. I can’t forget about my bros."
"I’m crying..." Wei Zhen covered his face, then snorted with laughter a mont later. "Just kidding! Who the fuck would believe that?"
"Let’s drop it for now. Did you two really co all this way just for a drink from this place?" Chen Yuan took a sip of the drink Liu Nan handed him. "Is this shop the best one or sothing?"
"No, we’re here to look for an apartnt to rent."
"An apartnt? Zhen, you’re moving out too?" Chen Yuan feigned surprise.
And you had to admit, his acting was pretty convincing.
"Yeah..."
"Is it not comfortable in the dorms?"
"A little. By the way, Yuan, how’s that complex you’re renting in? It’s not cheap, right?"
"It’s pretty expensive. Seems like none of the apartnts around University City are cheap. Why waste the money? Didn’t you say before that you were saving up to buy a used car to practice driving?"
"It would take forever to save up enough. Besides," Wei Zhen leaned back, as if the words had caught in his throat, and hesitated. "Besides, I don’t know what’s going on with the shop. The owner doesn’t seem to want to run it anymore."
"The shop where you have your part-ti job?" Liu Nan chid in, intentionally trying to draw Wei Zhen into conversation. But as soon as he spoke, the car fell silent, and Wei Zhen turned his head away completely.
The awkwardness lasted for a full half-minute.
Liu Nan’s face turned bright red from the embarrassnt.
It was the kind-hearted Quan Yafeng who finally broke the silence:
"That shop pays you so well, it must be pretty profitable. Why would they just suddenly decide to close? Did your manager say that?"
"He didn’t. I just overheard so other employees and our classmate Li Bing talking about it at lunch. I don’t know the specifics, but the work schedule has been a total ss the past few days. It used to be so organized. Maybe the manager just doesn’t want to deal with it anymore."
Chen Yuan remained silent, a thought occurring to him.
He knew the site for Bauhinia Company’s new investnt project would replace the maid cafe’s current location. But he had been told it was a simple relocation; he’d even heard the project director say an agreent had been reached.
Now, it seed that wasn’t the case at all.
"It won’t be easy to find another part-ti job with such good benefits. Aren’t you just putting more pressure on yourself by renting a place off-campus?" Chen Yuan said, turning the steering wheel to round a corner onto another street.
"I don’t know if the manager is going to keep the business going or not. Maybe I can stay on. Besides, if this part-ti job doesn’t work out, I can find another one. Yuan, aren’t you working too? I could even co and intern at your company."
"AHEM, AHEM, AHEM—" Chen Yuan choked on his own saliva and coughed violently a few tis. "No way."
"What? Why not?"
"Because... because after school starts, I have to focus on my studies. I’ll be putting the part-ti job aside. You should too, Wei Zhen. At the end of the day, we’re still students. We can’t forget our main priority."
