Chu Erzhu watched Ye Fan and the others eat and drink their fill, then chuckled, "You guys nearly ate up a week’s worth of at rations for all of us. I’ve been pretty generous with you, haven’t I?"
"Ah, you feel the pinch just from feeding us once? You’re being a bit stingy." Ye Fan replied nonchalantly.
"Do you not know that supplies are limited? Even with food, it’s not all about feasting. This is a military unit, not a gathering for the wealthy." Chu Erzhu, still thrifty, frowned and started lecturing.
Zhang Lu and the others understood the nuances involved, knowing they had benefited from Ye Fan’s presence, which allowed them an ample al.
"I’ve been taking people out there, risking life and limb. What’s wrong with having a bit of at?" Ye Fan casually responded, "You’re just stingy, your own wallet is pretty fat, isn’t it? Don’t you know to improve the als for your troops?"
"There are regulations in place, you can’t just talk recklessly." Chu Erzhu glanced at Ye Fan, speaking helplessly, "You don’t care about these things, and it’s pointless to discuss them with you."
"I think you’re just stingy. Chu Group is a big enterprise; your wallet is quite substantial. What’s wrong with doing a bit of charity? Even if you’re retired, the organization will provide for you. What good does it do to hoard your own money? Planning to take it with you to the grave?" Ye Fan sarcastically replied.
"I find that sotis I truly have nothing to say to you. Are you trying to upset deliberately?" Chu Erzhu retorted, eyes wide, "Without rules, nothing can be accomplished. How is one supposed to fund their troops out of pocket, when that’s taboo? What do you know, kid? Besides, the inco from Chu Group is earned by the younger generations; how could I shalessly squander it?"
"You actually care about dignity?" Ye Fan taunted, "I just don’t get it. You’re an old man now, with one foot in the grave; why not rein it in a bit, enjoy life, let the younger generations show their filial piety, and have a peaceful retirent? All you seem to know is this warlike stuff; though you command from the rear, isn’t it ti to retire now? Continually exerting yourself like this, be careful: one day, you’ll die, and your family will have to receive your ashes from the organization to bury you. Be considerate of the younger generations."
Ye Fan’s words carried deeper implications, definitely not rely to taunt Chu Erzhu.
"I understand what you an." Chu Erzhu’s sharp gaze was full of remorse, no longer showing motivation; only guilt towards his family. He spent most of his years away, rarely able to gather with his family, even during New Year, let alone enjoy family bliss. His care for the younger generations had indeed been lacking.
He dedicated his life to the organization, but the ti spent with family was too scarce, just as Ye Fan said; should he truly perish on duty, it would be exceedingly cruel for his family.
"My health is still robust and living another ten years shouldn’t be a problem." Chu Erzhu said bitterly.
"Your health bears old injuries, right? Left many wounds early on; if you don’t properly nurse them, constantly straining physically and ntally, if your health fails, it’s near impossible to recover, laughable to think. Should that ti really co and you want a few more years, you’re dreaming." Ye Fan responded coolly, "If you truly reach that mont, where recovery seems impossible, you’re fooling yourself."
Ye Fan’s words rendered Chu Erzhu speechless, knowing better than anyone that Ye Fan’s remarks weren’t baseless.
"Stop cursing , show a bit of kindness." Chu Erzhu said listlessly, "I understand your intentions; it’s concern for , isn’t it? I’m aware, I’ll seriously consider your advice."
"Concern for you? You’re overestimating yourself; I couldn’t care less whether you live or die. If it weren’t for ngyao and Biyao talking about their grandfather, with full of remorseful words, I wouldn’t bother with this stuff." Ye Fan bluntly said, "No one’s irreplaceable; the world moves on without you, don’t see yourself as that unique, indispensable figure."
"Getting reprimanded by you, I really have no grounds to argue; you’re really sothing, feels pretty good lecturing , doesn’t it?" Chu Erzhu’s face darkened.
"To so extent." Ye Fan said calmly.
"I’ll seriously consider your advice and put it into action; I truly should retire by now. Clinging on to this position is indeed improper, as you ntioned, everything continues without , the world doesn’t stop rotating." Chu Erzhu said with unprecedented seriousness, "It’s actually ti for retirent; I’ve been selfishly holding this position, having thoughts of contributing to the country while firmly grasping present power, wanting to use my remaining strength—that’s my selfishness."
Actually, there’s sothing unsaid; Chu Erzhu imnsely enjoys the taste of holding power.
That sense of foresight, strategy, and directing subordinates to complete tasks brings an achievent he finds hard to relinquish.
Reflecting deeply, it’s really unnecessary to continue striving like this; it’s indeed ti to let go.
People truly age, and the body deteriorates increasingly.
Perishing in this position would tarnish one’s reputation, which is worse than death.
While the body remains alright, relinquishing current position gracefully granting retirent and a few years of peaceful life.
If you wait until the body truly fails and then consider retirent, it’s too late, and this truth is very brutal for the children.
"It’s good to have this realization; saves from excessive effort trying to persuade." Ye Fan said.
"Persuade ? It’s not persuasion; rather like enlightening by striking a nerve, truly given a lesson." Chu Erzhu said, laughing bitterly.
"Not as exaggerated; I’m not comfortable calling it a lesson. Consider it advice from a younger generation." Ye Fan said earnestly.
"Whatever it is, your words really make sense and are for my benefit." Chu Erzhu acknowledged Ye Fan’s points, gratefully saying, "I can’t selfishly live solely for pleasure; it’s indeed ti to let go, ignoring old age won’t work, it’s ti for a more leisurely life."
"Seeing you think like this, many would be relieved." Ye Fan nodded.
Zhang Lu and others quietly listened to the conversation between Ye Fan and Chu Erzhu, like Zhang Lu and Yang Shu’s families, they held great reverence for Chu Erzhu; in his position, Chu Erzhu indeed made many contributions.
These younger people had naturally heard from other sources about many of Chu Erzhu’s achievents and rumors.
Many of Chu Erzhu’s experiences, the actions perford, were used as teaching materials for many to learn.
All of which, were honed through Chu Erzhu’s real effort and practical experience.
