Level 3 wasn’t like the upper levels.
There were no multiple rooms, no winding tunnels. Only a single enormous space—a cavern-cathedral carved from solid rock. The ceiling rose at least twenty ters. Massive pillars supported the structure, each inscribed with runes glowing with sickly amber light.
And at the center of the chamber, motionless as a statue, stood the boss.
The Cursed Stone Golem was a construction of rock, tal, and sothing more—sothing that made Alex’s skin crawl. It stood a full three ters tall, humanoid but grotesquely proportioned. Its arms were the thickness of Alex’s torso. Its eyes glowed with radioactive green light.
And it was covered in cracks that oozed sothing black and viscous.
The "curse" in its na, probably.
[DUNGEON BOSS: Cursed Stone Golem]
[Level: 18]
[HP: 3,500/3,500]
[Weaknesses: Magical damage, joints between stone segnts]
[Resistances: Physical damage (75% reduced), Poison (immune), Fire (50% reduced)]
[Skills: [Seismic Fist], [Curse Emanation], [Rock Regeneration], [Guardian Awakening]]
[WARNING: Elite boss - recomnded level 15 with full equipnt]
Alex read that three tis.
"Seventy-five percent physical damage reduction," he whispered. "And regeneration. Perfect. Absolutely perfect."
He looked at Grim. "Interdiate form isn’t going to cut it. Literally."
The small skeleton tilted its skull.
"We need Awakened. Everything. But that leaves with..." he did the math, "basically no MP for anything else. No reanimations. No Soul Sight. Nothing."
He considered retreating again. This was insane. A level 12 summoner against an elite level 18 boss with stacked resistances.
But then he looked at the soul counter: 89.7/1000
Ten more souls—maybe fifteen if the boss was worth more—and he’d cross one hundred. A milestone. And every soul brought him closer to making Grim stronger, which made him stronger.
"Screw it," he said again. He was doing that a lot lately. "Awakened form. Everything."
[Transformation: Latent → Interdiate → Awakened]
[Total cost: 150 MP]
[MP remaining: 0/330]
[WARNING: NO MANA - No skills available until regeneration]
Grim exploded upward.
Bones cracking, expanding. Four feet becoming eight feet of nightmare made bone. The toy scythe transforming into the six-foot blade of death.
Crimson eyes burning like dying stars.
*"Master," * the resonant ancient voice filled the cavern. *"Finally. Real battle." *
The Golem reacted instantly. Its green eyes focused on Grim, recognizing a threat.
A roar—not from a throat but from stone grinding against stone—shook the chamber.
[BOSS FIGHT INITIATED!]
[The Cursed Stone Golem has awakened]
The Golem charged. Three ters, thousands of kilograms of rock, moving faster than anything that large should be able to move.
Its fist crashed into the ground where Grim had been a second before.
[Seismic Fist - Activated!]
Stone exploded. Shockwaves radiated outward. Alex was thrown from his feet, slamming into a pillar.
[-89 HP]
[HP: 291/560]
"SHIT!" He spat blood, forcing himself up.
Grim had dodged the initial strike, now circling the Golem. His scythe cut—directly into the Golem’s knee joint.
The impact rang out like a bell. The blade bit deep, chipping stone.
[Critical hit! -450 HP]
[Golem HP: 3,050/3,500]
The Golem roared. It spun, faster than anything that large should, backhanding Grim.
The skeleton flew across the chamber, crashing into the wall hard enough to crack stone.
*"Nngh... strong. Very strong." * Grim rose, seemingly unhard—advantages of having no flesh to bruise.
The Golem didn’t pursue. Instead, it planted both hands on the ground.
[Guardian Awakening - Activated!]
The stone around the chamber began to move. Form. Rise.
Four smaller Golems—each only a ter and a half tall, but definitely hostile—erged from the ground itself.
[Guardian Golem x4 - Level 12]
"Are you KIDDING ?!" Alex watched helplessly as the four guardians rose.
His MP was at zero. He couldn’t reanimate. Couldn’t help. Could only watch as Grim faced five golems simultaneously.
The guardians attacked first, coordinating. Two from each side, one from behind, trapping Grim in formation.
The skeleton fought brilliantly. His scythe was a blur, cutting, parrying, counterattacking. He destroyed one guardian—straight through its core.
[Guardian destroyed]
[ 250 EXP]
[Soul harvested: 0.8/1000]
But the other three pressed on. And the boss was recovering, cracks in its leg glowing with green light as stone regenerated.
[Rock Regeneration - Activated!]
[ 400 HP]
[Golem HP: 3,450/3,500]
"No no no..." Alex frantically searched his inventory. A health potion (useless—Grim was a skeleton). Dagger (useless against rock). Mana crystals (useless, he had no way to—)
Wait.
Mana crystals.
They restored MP when consud. The problem was that you typically needed to be out of combat to absorb them properly—the process took five minutes of concentration.
Unless...
Alex pulled out the three crystals. Crushed them together in his fist, letting the sharp edges cut his palm. Blood mixing with crystal dust.
[WARNING: Non-standard absorption thod detected]
[High risk of mana poisoning]
[Proceed?]
"YES!" Alex shoved the bloody crystal-dust concoction into his mouth, swallowing.
[Ergency absorption - Successful!]
[ 120 MP]
[MP: 120/330]
[Status: Mana Poisoning (minor) - -2 HP every 10 seconds for 2 minutes]
Enough. He had enough.
"GRIM! HOLD ON!" Alex focused, seeking targets.
The bodies. The guardians Grim had destroyed. And—hope against hope—remains of lower-level creatures that had wandered here and died.
He saw three: two goblin skeletons, one wolf.
[Reanimate x3]
[Cost: 75 MP]
[MP remaining: 45/330]
The three skeletons rose, clumsy, fragile, but sothing.
"Attack the guardians! Ignore the boss!"
The skeletons charged. They were no match for the Guardian Golems—stone blows shattered them in seconds—but they bought precious ti.
Ti enough for Grim to destroy another guardian.
[ 250 EXP]
[Soul: 0.8/1000]
Two guardians remaining. And the boss was charging up again.
The big Golem stomped, its entire body glowing with sickly green light.
[Curse Emanation - Charging!]
"GRIM! WHATEVER THAT IS, DON’T LET IT FINISH!"
*"Trying!" * Grim launched himself at the boss, scythe aid for its torso—
A guardian tackled him from the side. Both crashed into a pillar, raining debris.
The boss finished charging.
[Curse Emanation - RELEASED!]
A wave of putrid green energy exploded outward in all directions.
It hit Alex like a truck made of nausea.
[-156 HP]
[HP: 135/560]
[Status: Cursed - All stats reduced 30% for 5 minutes]
[Status: Mana Poisoning (stacked with curse)]
[HP: 133/560... 131/560... 129/560...]
Alex fell to his knees, vomiting. His vision blurry. His body feeling like it was rotting from the inside out.
He was going to die.
Really, truly, he was going to die in this damn dungeon, and no one would ever know, and his body would dissolve into mana essence and it would be like he never existed—
*"MASTER!" *
Grim’s voice—not through the bond but real, audible, ANGRY.
Alex raised his blurry head in ti to see Grim tear himself free from the guardian. The skeleton moved faster than Alex had ever seen him move.
The scythe cut through both remaining guardians in a single impossible arc.
[ 250 EXP] [ 250 EXP]
[Souls: 1.6/1000]
Then Grim turned to the boss.
The crimson lights in his sockets burned brighter. So bright they cast red shadows across the entire chamber.
*"You. Hurt. My master." *
The Golem roared, charging forward.
Grim didn’t move.
The scythe glead—not with normal light but with sothing darker. Black energy, empty, the kind of darkness that existed before stars were born.
*"This. Ends. NOW." *
A single word thundered through the bond, directly into Alex’s mind:
*[REAP] *
The scythe cut.
Not through the Golem.
Through its soul.
The Golem froze. Its green eyes flickered. The light within them—the animating force that made it more than just rock—was ripped out.
Alex could see it. A translucent thing, vaguely humanoid in shape, screaming silently as Grim grabbed it with his bony hand.
*"Your. Soul. Is. Mine." *
Grim squeezed.
The translucent form disintegrated into particles of light that flowed into the skeleton.
The Cursed Stone Golem collapsed. Just rock now. Inanimate. Dead.
[DUNGEON BOSS DEFEATED!]
[Cursed Stone Golem - KILLED]
[ 2,500 EXP]
[You have leveled up! Level 12 → Level 15!]
[Soul harvested: 5.0/1000]
[Total souls: 96.3/1000]
[DUNGEON CLEARED!]
[Reward: Boss Chest unlocked]
[Reward: 500 Crowns]
[Reward: Title earned - "Lone Hunter"]
Silence.
Alex lay on the ground, his HP slowly ticking toward zero from the combined mana poisoning and curse.
[HP: 89/640... 87/640... 85/640...]
Grim shrank back to small form—no MP left to maintain Awakened.
The small skeleton limped over (one of its legs was cracked from combat), dragging itself to where Alex lay.
It settled beside its master. Waiting.
"We... did it..." Alex laughed weakly, taste of blood in his mouth. "We actually... did it..."
His last potion. He needed his last potion.
With trembling fingers, he pulled out the bottle. Drank.
[ 150 HP]
[HP: 235/640]
Enough. Enough to survive until the status effects wore off.
He lay there, Grim beside him, both broken and exhausted.
[DING!]
A new panel appeared:
[THRESHOLD REACHED!]
[Souls harvested: 96.3/1000]
[Special evolution criteria t:]
· First full dungeon cleared solo
· Elite boss defeated while under-leveled
· Master survived with critical HP
[ERGENCY EVOLUTION AVAILABLE!]
[Grim Reaper Fragnt → Lesser Death Knight]
[Proceed with evolution?]
[WARNING: Evolution will attract unwanted attention]
[WARNING: Ancient Gods have detected forbidden activity]
[WARNING: Unknown observers are approaching]
Alex read the warnings.
He should wait. He should be careful.
But it was very hard to care about consequences when you’d just killed a level 18 elite boss as a level 15 summoner.
"Initiate... evolution..." he murmured.
[Evolution - INITIATED]
Grim began to glow. Not with light but with absence of light, darkness radiating outward like ink spreading in water.
Bones transford. Lengthened. Thickened. Armor—real, solid, made of sothing between bone and tal—ford around the skeleton.
The toy scythe lted, reford, beca a proper war scythe even in latent form.
When it finished, Grim was no longer a small, pathetic skeleton with a toy.
It was a Lesser Death Knight. Even at rest, even in its "small" form, it now stood a ter and a half tall. Dark armor. Real scythe. Eye sockets glowing with permanent crimson light.
[Evolution complete]
[Grim: Reaper Fragnt → Lesser Death Knight]
[New base form unlocked: Latent (Knight)]
[Existing forms enhanced: Interdiate ( 50% power), Awakened ( 30% power)]
[New skills unlocked:]
· [Aura of Death] - Weaken nearby living enemies
· [Command Undead] - Automatically control reanimations
· [Soul Reap] - Enhanced version of basic harvest
Alex smiled weakly. "You... look good... bro..."
Then the second panel appeared:
[SYSTEM ALERT]
[Forbidden energy signature detected by multiple observers]
[The Ancient Gods have been alerted]
[Celestial Temple sending investigators]
[The Forsaken Circle tracking your location]
[Unknown entities converging]
[WARNING: You have attracted the attention of forces beyond your comprehension]
[WARNING: The path of the Death Sovereign will only beco more dangerous]
[WARNING: You can no longer hide in the shadows]
Alex stared at the ssage, his vision still blurry.
"Great," he murmured. "Just... great..."
He lost consciousness.
Grim stood over his fallen master, new, stronger body, new scythe held at guard.
Watching.
Waiting.
Because sothing was approaching through the dungeon.
Sothing that slled of incense and divine light and celestial authority.
And sowhere, very, very far away, in a temple that existed halfway outside reality, a group of ancient beings awakened from eons of slumber.
A voice, so old it made stone seem young, whispered:
*"The Seventh Seal has broken. The Reaper walks again among mortals. The gods must awaken. The end of all things has begun its countdown." *
