What was he trying to say?
Was he afraid that she would bully Joanna?
She was his biological mother, the person who raised him and nurtured him.
But now he sided with his wife, placing her above his own mother.
If she had known that he would beco such an ungrateful son after getting married, she might as well not have given birth to him!
