Didn’t really think it would be that easy to find so sort of correlation between these kinds of magics and yet here I was, understanding how my Elental magic and my new Fae magic were able to be utilized in similar ways.
The structure was there in those trees just like how there was structure in the Ritual Circles I utilized for spell casting; it just wasn’t structured in a typical way that was easily legible to soone who was so accustod to extrely rigid formatting.
It was like picking out a few words that were similar in two different languages, words that ca from one and were implented into the other with a slight twist that fit that separate tongue; you could recognize it if you looked hard enough, and when you did you could potentially pick it apart for a few more hints here and there.
That was what the last few minutes had turned into, and slowly using my little cheat sheet on the back of my neck I was able to get a sort of rudintary understanding of how the magics were similar and where they differed.
Almost imdiately upon doing so the trees began to dissipate when I pushed my mana into my eyes, freeing up a whole lot of space around as half of the forest disappeared in re seconds, leaving in a sparse forest.
The most pressing concern though was that a few of those ’trees’ had beco sothing else entirely, which was where I finally managed to shed so of my fear as I instead prepared for a fight; I could finally see what was going on and actually make progress towards leaving, so this was no longer as terrifying as before.
Floating in the place of the trunks that had been standing firm just a second ago were these little faeries that were just... downright stereotypical at first; four paper thing wings of chitin flapped seemingly dozens of tis a second to keep a six inch tall creature afloat, wrapped in a cocoon of magic that took on an amorphous shape.
Where my view on magic was extrely cold, logical and structured, the magic I was seeing before was rcurial and ’natural’, doing as it pleased seemingly without any input from the faeries sleeping soundly within it.
The strands of mana were wispy and ’alive’, creating the illusions that kept the faeries safe while also nurturing them as they sucked any additional mana out of the air, feeding it to the faeries and allowing them to remain in this suspended state.
There were easily hundreds of the damn things floating all around , and with that revelation I was also greeted with the sight of footprints pressed into the snow all around ; footprints that matched my own, aning I hadn’t been walking in a straight line whatsoever.
Another illusion added onto everything else, with one of those additional things being the sudden lack of fear I had as it just drained away, like it was never even there to begin with.
My sudden halt and silence didn’t go unnoticed, with more than a few of the faeries turning towards with inquisitive gazes as they woke up one by one, focusing their ethereal white eyes on .
So of them were just little glitter skinned humans with wings, others were dented creatures from hell - amalgamations of chitin, bone and flesh that was simply unnatural - while a rare few were raw mana constructed into whichever form was easiest on their abilities.
All of them were bundles of power that were looking at directly, highlighting the threads that connected to them and letting know that I was their ’food’, albeit unwillingly and completely unaware of it.
"Well, this is fun. Faeries are either charming little rascals or hellions that need to be put down imdiately with nothing between the two, aren’t they? How wonderful... though I am rather happy that I can destress again~!"
Speaking to myself apparently was a habit that was very quickly picked up, but it helped as I severed the threads between the Faeries and myself, causing an imdiate wave of surprised and angered sounds to co from all of my new ’friends’.
A wave of these small yet powerful creatures shot towards like arrows, hoping to use speed to catch off guard and end this quickly, but instead they got to beco intimate with a thick sheet of ice as I imdiately surrounded myself with magic, buying those precious opening seconds to think of a good plan.
Seeing them splat against the ice was incredibly amusing though, especially since a few of them hit the wall at speeds that caused them to explode upon contact, their magic not saving them from anything as it impacted against my own.
Others got mangled while a seldom few chipped away at the ice sheet, though they did bounce away instantly for fear of retaliation, which didn’t co since I was admiring the various multicolored blood splatters around .
I had ti for myself and they had ti for their own plans, but the difference was I got to just push the sheets out suddenly and catch even more of the magical insects on those surfaces, splattering a couple more and sending quite a few flying backwards, deeper into the forest.
So of the Faeries bundled together and shrouded themselves in their magic, showing a little bit more of how it worked and letting potentially learn what I needed to in order to utilize this sigil on my neck, while others just summoned tiny weapons and rushed at from all sorts of angles.
I had my work cut out for , that was for sure, but it was far more enjoyable than the magically induced terror and isolation that I had been dealing with just minutes ago, so I created a few rotating paddles of ice and began to ’play’ with my new ’friends’, batting them away and seeing how far they could really~ fly~!
