Chi Wan turned around in surprise. "Senior? What are you doing here? Don’t tell ..."
Zhou Huaijin chuckled. "I never thought the apartnt you rented would be in the sa complex as mine... But this is good. I’m helping my professor teach a course this sester, so I’ll be living here for a while. If you need anything, feel free to co find ."
After he finished speaking, he saw Xiahou Yu standing to the side. He greeted him and moved to take the luggage from his hands. "Brother Yu, so when Wanwan said soone was giving her a ride, she was talking about you."
Xiahou Yu nodded at him in acknowledgnt but sidestepped his attempt to take the luggage. "I’ll bring it up for Wanwan. Weren’t you on your way out?"
Zhou Huaijin gave Xiahou Yu a long look, a thought seeming to cross his mind, before chuckling lightly. "I was originally planning to eat at the school cafeteria... You two probably haven’t eaten yet, right? How about we go together after Wanwan is settled? I’m just not sure if you can still stomach university-area food, Brother Yu."
The complex was very close to the university, only about a ten-minute walk away.
Chi Wan, of course, had no objections. "Perfect! I was just saying I wanted to treat you guys to a al. No ti like the present. You absolutely have to let be the one to treat today, okay? You can pick the place~"
Hearing Chi Wan say this, Xiahou Yu didn’t argue.
The building had private elevators that opened directly into each unit. After Chi Wan swiped her card to enter, Zhou Huaijin saw her floor number and said with a sigh, "If I’d known you were renting in this complex, I would have..."
Although the land for this complex belonged to Zhou Huai’an, he wasn’t the developer. Furthermore, the area around the university was a bit remote, so he had only set aside one apartnt for Zhou Huaijin.
It wasn’t that Zhou Huaijin was trying to leverage his proximity for romantic advantage. For one, there really were no spare rooms. For another, the existence of He Lingfeng made him uneasy about Chi Wan renting a place by herself.
His own apartnt was nearly 200 square ters. If Chi Wan were willing, he could have knocked down the wall between two rooms to create a suite for her, complete with its own separate lock.
Chi Wan waved her hand. "This is great, too. Being on different floors is still very convenient~ So, Senior, which elective are you teaching this sester? Mr. Zhou, if I take your course, will you go easy on when it’s ti for finals?~"
Zhou Huaijin chuckled. "Absolutely not. I’m very strict."
But, as Chi Wan said, he lived on the 10th floor and she lived right below him, which was indeed convenient.
Hearing their conversation, Xiahou Yu’s mood soured. He knew exactly what Zhou Huaijin was thinking better than anyone.
But knowing was useless. Their natural relationship as senior and junior classmate was a fact, and there was nothing he could do about it.
The only good news was that, regardless of Zhou Huaijin’s intentions, Chi Wan at least seed to see him only as a senior. Otherwise, given her personality, she would never have refused his earlier offer.
The elevator arrived at the 9th floor. Chi Wan stepped out first and opened her door. The apartnt was spotless, but both the living room and the kitchen had a warm, lived-in feel.
The owner was working abroad, and since the apartnt would otherwise be empty, they decided to rent it out. But because it had been their primary residence, it was fully furnished and well-equipped. Not only was the rent high, but the owner also had strict requirents for tenants. That was how Chi Wan had managed to snag such a great find.
Chi Wan had already seen the apartnt, so none of it was unfamiliar to her.
She had Xiahou Yu leave the luggage right by the entrance. After setting down the suitcase and a large bag of snacks, Xiahou Yu pointed to the box in Zhou Huaijin’s hands. "An An, should I set it up for you now, or after we get back from dinner?"
’An An?’
Zhou Huaijin looked down at the box in his hands, surprised. "Is this that smart machine your company was developing?"
When Xiahou Yu nodded, Zhou Huaijin’s expression grew complicated, but Xiahou Yu didn’t continue the topic and turned to Chi Wan instead.
Chi Wan was oblivious to the silent exchange between the two n. She used the motion of dragging her suitcase into the bedroom as cover to pull her purse out of her dinsional storage.
Hearing Xiahou Yu, she dangled the purse in her hand. "We’re eating first, of course! Mr. CEO worked so hard driving today; I can’t make you work on an empty stomach, can I? Don’t anyone hold back on my account today. Order whatever you want!"
Zhou Huaijin laughed. "Trying to butter up before you’ve even registered for the class?"
Chi Wan giggled. "So things are better left unsaid. I know a private kitchen nearby that’s really good. Shall we head over?"
Then, she suddenly looked at Xiahou Yu with suspicion. "Wait, let just confirm—you haven’t expanded into the restaurant business near my university, have you?"
She didn’t want to swagger in all ready to show off, only to have the waiter turn around and call Xiahou Yu "Boss." That would be so embarrassing.
Xiahou Yu finally laughed out loud. "It must be a failing in my business portfolio’s coverage. I’ll endeavor to open a few more restaurants next to your university in the future."
Chi Wan imdiately shot him down. "No, no! Please, you have to leave so room to play the rich girl."
Zhou Huaijin opened the door with an amused smile. "Then let’s get going, little miss moneybags."
The place wasn’t too far, so the three of them decided to walk instead of drive.
But just as they were about to cross the street, a sports car suddenly ca tearing toward them as if it had lost its mind!
Xiahou Yu’s expression changed instantly as he pulled Chi Wan behind him.
Zhou Huaijin also put his arm out to shield Chi Wan, frowning at the person in the driver’s seat.
"SCREECH—"
The sports car slamd on its brakes, screeching to a halt just inches away from them.
The window rolled down to reveal a sullen-looking young man. The girl beside him had gone pale with fright.
"He Lingfeng, if you’re sick, go ho and take your dicine! What the hell are you doing, going crazy in the middle of the street?!"
Zhou Huaijin never imagined He Lingfeng would be so audacious as to try sothing like this in broad daylight.
But He Lingfeng’s eyes were fixed only on Chi Wan, his face twisted in a mocking sneer. "Chi Wan, I really underestimated your skills. Not only this bookworm Zhou Huaijin, but you even managed to sink your hooks into Xiahou Yu. Since you love n so much, why don’t you try seducing ?"
The girl beside him had just recovered from the shock when she heard his words. "Mr. He," she said in disbelief, "what are you talking about?"
He Lingfeng didn’t even glance at her, just gestured vaguely at the door. "Get out."
A flash of anger crossed the girl’s face, but mindful of who He Lingfeng was, she didn’t dare lose her temper. She could only obediently open the door and get out.
Before she left, her gaze swept over Chi Wan, who was standing behind Zhou Huaijin and Xiahou Yu, and a thoughtful expression flickered in her eyes.
When Chi Wan snapped out of her shock, she was t with He Lingfeng’s disgusting words. She stepped forward, sized him up from head to toe, and sneered, "He Lingfeng, if you have a niche hobby like wanting to be a dog, you’d best not parade it around on the street."
"What’s the matter? Weren’t you satisfied barking at that red exclamation point all day yesterday? You had to co all the way here to bark in my face? Seduce you? With a guy like you, I’d be afraid a slap across the face would get you off."
