Aside from that one Flounder that looked deceptively aty, the rest of the fish Leo brought back were Sardines. They were small, bony, and really only suitable for soup.
The only cookware Yakumo Ran brought was a single large cauldron.
She was clever. She knew Leo had no kitchen and likely lacked the skills to use complex utensils. A sturdy pot that could be propped up on stones over an open fire was the most practical choice.
The fresh Flounder was skinned and filleted with surgical precision. Ran only needed to press her fingers against the flesh once to map the entire skeletal structure. Her small knife danced, separating at from bone in seconds.
She set the two large, boneless fillets aside. The bones, along with two cleaned Sardines and a clump of seaweed, were tossed into the pot to create a stock.

He reached out, wanting to pet her head, but hesitated. Ran was watching. Petting a cat in front of its owner was fine. Petting a cat that could turn into a little girl felt... legally ambiguous.
"Okay, ow! Good luck, ow!"
Chen, sensing his hesitation, hopped right into his lap and rubbed her head against his hand.
Want to pet the cat? You gave soup. The cat permits it.
"It seems Chen likes you very much," Ran observed warmly.
She packed the cookware but placed it in the woodshed next to the cabin instead of taking it back. She knew Leo needed it more than she did.
"I like cats very much, too," Leo admitted, sinking his fingers into the soft, black fur.
His technique was skilled. The fur was silky smooth, shimring in the firelight. If Ran wasn't watching—and if he didn't know about the human transformation—he would have buried his face in the fluff.

gumu Iizunamaru still had Yakumo Yukari in a headlock.
Yukari looked like she had lost the will to live.
