If we use gaming language, the Abyss is actually one of many repeatable dungeons in "Dawn Link," with its entrance originally deep within a mine, and after Shen Sui mined to the deepest part, he’d go to the Abyss for a run.
Like many dungeon openings have certain conditions, to unlock the Abyss dungeon, you need to complete the side quest of Abyss Invasion.
During Shen Sui’s second playthrough, he was speedrunning purely to complete Vivian’s route. Thus, at the ga’s early stages, he had no ti to unlock the Abyss dungeon. After completing the main storyline in his second playthrough, as he idled away, he finally rembered the Abyss dungeon hadn’t been unlocked, so he went ahead and finished the Abyss Invasion storyline.
