Wei Xueqing ran crying to the street, squatting by the corner and burying her head, sobbing.
Yang Chen stood beside her, unsure of how to comfort her. He lit a cigarette, smoking silently, disregarding the strange looks from passersby.
After a while, a woman approached Wei Xueqing and said, "Hey! Girl, do you need help? Do you need to call the police for you?"
Wei Xueqing lifted her head, looked at the woman, stood up, and said, "Thank you, no need, I’m fine, thank you!"
The woman left.
Wei Xueqing looked apologetically at Yang Chen, "I’m sorry, I really lost my composure."
Yang Chen tossed away the cigarette butt, shaking his head slightly.
"I was truly blind and chose the wrong person. How could my dad possibly harm ? When it cos to judging people, he’s way better than , yet I just wouldn’t believe him. Ye Xin too, she warned many tis, she must have known sothing, but she didn’t want to hurt my feelings. I was the only fool who thought he was a good person," Wei Xueqing laughed self-mockingly.
The two walked aimlessly ahead.
Yang Chen thought for a mont and then said to Wei Xueqing, "I saw a popular saying online recently."
"What?" Wei Xueqing looked at Yang Chen.
Yang Chen said, "Without encountering a few scumbags, how can you wear a wedding dress? Life is a continuous process of going through failures to gain lessons. You and your father have protected you too well, everything’s been too smooth. You haven’t faced setbacks, so regardless of your excellence, without experiencing failure, you can’t be called mature."
Wei Xueqing smiled, "So, am I considered grown up now? But... why does growing up have to co with so much pain? He clearly could have told earlier, why didn’t he? Why did he waste five years of my life? Why?"
As she spoke, Wei Xueqing cried again.
Yang Chen felt awkward, unsure what to do.
"Can I borrow your shoulder?" Wei Xueqing asked pitifully, her face streaked with tears.
Yang Chen quickly stood up straight, "Co on!"
His manner seed like he was preparing for a sacrifice on the battlefield.
Seeing this, Wei Xueqing chuckled and cried even harder on Yang Chen’s shoulder.
Yang Chen felt a warm wetness on his shoulder, silently sighing at how won seed to be made of water, producing so many tears.
After a long ti, Wei Xueqing finally exhausted herself from crying. She got up from Yang Chen’s shoulder and saw the wet mark, feeling embarrassed she said, "I’m sorry, I’ve dirtied your shirt. I’ll buy you a new one later."
Yang Chen frowned slightly, looked at the wet mark on his shoulder, and said, "It’s fine, I’m not that delicate!"
"Let’s go back!" Wei Xueqing took a deep breath and said, "I’ve got it figured out; I actually don’t care that much about loving Qian Hai. If I truly loved him, I would accept him, not feel awkward even holding hands with him. We got together because I felt a lack of care at the ti, and he happened to be there. Later, with my studies getting harder and the work stress increasing, I couldn’t even think of Qian Hai. He was right; n are not monks, won are not nuns; a long-distance relationship for three to five years without eting or any relationship is not staying pure; it’s lacking feeling, lacking love! I don’t love him, so I didn’t feel anything and could endure for such a long ti. He didn’t love , so he couldn’t hold on and found soone else, a new shortcut. Neither of us were good enough, so let’s end it this way! Let’s end it here!"
As Wei Xueqing spoke, her eyes felt sore and she wanted to cry, but the tears were gone, and she couldn’t cry anymore.
Yang Chen could tell Wei Xueqing was not completely reconciled.
This kind of betrayal, she spoke lightly, but she didn’t feel settled inside.
Yang Chen thought for a while, pulled out a cigarette from his pocket, noticed it was the last one, lit it, took a puff, and slowly exhaled the smoke, a cold gleam in his eyes.
"Here’s the plan, let’s stay here for a day. We’ll go back tomorrow night. Book the ticket, and tomorrow I’ll introduce you to a friend who also works on Will Street," Yang Chen said lightly.
"You have a friend on Will Street too?" Wei Xueqing looked at Yang Chen in disbelief.
She thought back to when they were in Lancy Country and quickly explained, "I didn’t an that, I an, you’re a guardsman, you should be in the guards, how could you know soone in Gotham? And they work on Will Street?"
Yang Chen smiled lightly, "I’m a person who likes making friends."
Wei Xueqing looked Yang Chen up and down; she hadn’t noticed this about him before.
They stayed at a nearby hotel, with adjacent rooms.
Yang Chen entered his room, stood by the wall adjacent to Wei Xueqing’s room for a while. After confirming there was no sound from the other side, he sighed and went to the windowsill to smoke.
Gotham was beautiful. Standing by the window, he could see the neon-lit extravagance outside.
Many people co to the Northern Federation yearning to stay, to get a green card—this is the so-called Northern Federation dream.
But is the Northern Federation really that good?
The Northern Federation is a developed country with fast economic growth, leading the ranks. However, its public security and safety are truly terrible.
What does one pursue?
The bright moon in a foreign land?
Yang Chen doesn’t think so.
In Lijia Continent, Yang Chen liked sitting on the cliff watching the huge sunset in the distance and the gradually rising moon. Whether sunset or moon, both were big and bright. The sky was filled with nebulae and very beautiful.
But these couldn’t compare to the grass and trees of his hotown.
On the day he ca back, Yang Chen found even the small grass by Baihe made him feel so close.
People from Fla Country believe in returning to roots.
And Yang Chen’s roots will always be in Fla Country.
Yang Chen wouldn’t deny others’ values, wouldn’t deny others’ dreams and pursuits. But a country is always a country, ho is always Fla Country. This cannot change with a green card, your blood, your genes will not change because you have a green card.
Night falls, deep into the night.
Gotham is noisier at night than during the day.
After observing Wei Xueqing’s room, Yang Chen quietly left.
Will Street.
29th floor.
CEO’s office.
Luke Leonard is one of the sharks on Will Street. His rise is legendary, with so directors even negotiating to turn his experiences into a film series about Will Street.
But Luke Leonard didn’t agree!
His character is unlike the Northern Federation’s people, more like those from Fla Country, with one quarter of Fla Country blood, since his grandfather was from Fla Country.
He is more reserved and ambitious.
His vision isn’t limited to Will Street but extends further. Luke Leonard learned from his grandfather the way of shooting down the prominent, his aim is to quietly make big fortunes.
Moreover, the nurous consortia in the Northern Federation control the economy. He doesn’t wish to appear unnecessarily, to avoid triggering the interests of the consortia and being suppressed, which could affect his expansion.
Whether acting in front or behind the scenes is not important; he continually considers whether all his actions can create the greatest benefits for those he serves.
That’s what’s most important!
