Chapter 294
Sliding on the ground for a few seconds, the duo finally ca to an abrupt halt as they watched the dust settle from the explosion the Tribrid had just caused.
Chloe rushed out from her hiding spot to check on the two with an obviously worried look on her face.
Reaching out his hand, Ray dispelled his golden lasso from the beast’s body with a tired sigh.
"Are you both okay?" Chloe questioned as she reached the two.
Frowning, Ray sat upright and scowled at Trisha.
"Ask your damn friend why the hell she was losing composure in the middle of the fight? Why were you so zoned out that you didn’t even notice a scythe was heading your way?!"
Trisha blinked for a few seconds and slowly sat upright too, but she didn’t even look in Ray’s direction.
She just kept staring straight ahead.
"What? You won’t talk? In case you have forgotten, that was a damned King-rank beast.
And we wouldn’t have won if we didn’t cooperate together.
We work as a team if we want to grow stronger. And you decided it was convenient to lose focus? You keep acting cold and dismissive like everybody is beneath you, but you nearly died thrice today if I hadn’t saved you."
He paused as if waiting for a response from the girl, but he got none, and instead, he decided to rant on.
"... I had also noticed this competitive nature in you during the expedition. What was that all about? You were willing to risk everybody’s lives just because you wanted the team at the top of the leaderboard? What the hell is even wrong with you? Do you think at all?!"
"Ray..." Chloe softly called out, trying to stop him.
"No. Let talk. What the hell is even wrong with her? She keeps ignoring people, barely talks to anybody, and keeps acting all high and mighty. Tch! She suggested we hunt King-rank beasts.
I said fine and made a plan, but instead of sticking to it and being aware of her surroundings, she broke out of line. I was the one who was supposed to deal the finishing strike to the damn beast. Not you! So stop breaking out of damn formation."
Trisha kept quiet while listening to Ray berate her.
After a few seconds of silence, she grabbed her sword, stood up, and then walked towards the corpse of the beast in an attempt to search for its cores.
"We need to leave as soon as possible before more beasts show up. This hunt today is enough." She uttered and got to work rummaging for the beast’s cores.
Ray was fuming.
Hands tightly clasped as he turned to glare at Chloe.
"Can you see what I’m talking about?! She just ignored my damn complaints like I don’t exist. Who the hell does that? Who does she think she is?
All she cares about is those damn cores and growing stronger for whatever damned reason she has.
I’m sure her only motivation to grow stronger in this life is so no man puts her down or she doesn’t want to submit to any man. That’s their only motivation in life. Tsk."
Trisha froze mid-search at the words of the boy.
Especially the last sentence.
A flicker of an emotion passed through her eyes as she spaced out for a few monts.
Exhaling silently, she continued searching.
Chloe looked at the boy, then shook her head disappointedly. "Not cool."
Ray just scoffed and rose up from the ground.
Truth be told, he wasn’t even angry at the fact that Trisha was ignoring him.
Nor was he upset about all she had done or the fact that she almost got herself killed.
He couldn’t even care much if she died.
All he was upset about was the fact that she nearly dealt the finishing blow to the damn beast.
If she had done so, he wouldn’t have gotten his rewards from the system.
Since his MF was stuck till his next evolution, the beast cores were practically useless to him till they could get back, then he sold them.
But as he couldn’t sell them imdiately, they were useless to him at the mont.
So, he couldn’t absorb them.
Then, the next path to grow stronger was to be the one who dealt the finishing blow to the beasts, whether he participated much or not.
If the beast fell to his hands, he would get his rewards from the system and, hopefully, so sweet EXP that would bring him closer and closer to level thirty.
He was entirely enraged by the fact that Trisha had nearly snatched that away from him.
Luckily, throughout the whole battle and his subsequent rant, no other King-rank beast had co to the area yet.
Ray had chosen this particular spot specifically because it was far away from the valley where the other monsters slumbered.
This beast had been heading back to its own nest when he sent Chloe out to bait it toward them.
Carefully mapping out the location and the plan in such a way that its mobility would be reduced to half—all of these elents had culminated into their victory today.
If it wasn’t for the thorough planning, who would dare them to even think of battling with a fully healthy King-rank beast?
Trisha was finally done retrieving the cores.
Ray scoffed lightly and then looked up at the sky.
"We can’t just hunt one beast and return to safety. We still have a few more hours till it’s nightti. We can hunt a few Advanced-rank beasts. What do you all think?"
Trisha looked at him for a brief second, then simply shrugged. "Alright."
Ray sighed inwardly.
Her short, one-word replies were so incredibly annoying, but what could he really do about it?
Turning to look at Chloe, he lifted an inquiring brow.
The archer just shrugged in agreent.
"Sure. Advanced-rank beasts are much easier to handle than King-rank beasts. My life won’t be at such a high risk like it was today, especially since you both will be right there."
Ray nodded, then turned around and scanned the imdiate horizon.
"Let’s go then."
And with that, the trio walked away from the carcass, actively looking for their next target to defeat and grow stronger.
