Chapter 89

It was already 9:30 pm.

The trio had missed their dinner for the day, yet they didn’t seem to care in the slightest.

They had been snoring ever since the risky side quest to tamper with the watch was completed.

It was truly surprising how long they could sleep, as they hadn’t even realized that the night sky had already settled over the world.

Darkness would have blanketed the landscape entirely if it weren’t for the fact that a half-moon was shining brightly in the firmant, with dozens of stars circulating around its celestial glow.

A few streetlights were on—so illuminating the Corps’ grounds and others flickering beyond the periter.

In the room, Van and Kai were still softly snoring, but one person was now fully awake:

Ray!

His gaze remained fixed on the ceiling for a few monts as his hands rested calmly on his stomach.

He wasn’t doing anything in particular; he was just thinking about several things, most especially his system and the strange path his life had taken.

’A Tribrid, huh? How convenient.’

With that thought, he closed his eyes.

He didn’t intend to sleep, but rather to talk.

∆∆∆

Opening his eyes again, Ray found himself within the familiar expanse of his mind space.

He looked down to see himself sitting on the chair, so he stood up and began striding towards the duo waiting in the depths of his mind.

Elyon was currently sitting in the sa position as usual, with his back against... Ray didn’t even know what the celestial’s back was braced against, as the entire place was eerily dark.

anwhile, Bruce lay very far away from the celestial—nestled deep within the darkness as if the light itself might hurt him.

Clack. Clack. Clack.

Ray’s footsteps paused two feet away from Elyon.

Without hesitation, he sat down in front of him.

The celestial only flashed him a gentle smile as always.

’For so reason, this smile always creeps out.’

"Shouldn’t you be sleeping?" Elyon calmly asked.

"I should. But I have slept enough. The body still needs to rest, hence I left it and decided to co here to speak," Ray replied, without any ounce of fear.

"Oh? Speak? About what?" Elyon asked with a raised brow.

"..."

Silence reigned for a few monts.

Ray stared back for a few seconds and then replied:

"We haven’t properly introduced ourselves yet."

Elyon didn’t elicit any emotion, nor did his expression change as he kept looking at the boy.

"We haven’t? I thought I told you who we were and gave you our nas during that battle."

Ray shook his head firmly.

"I’m not speaking about that. I’m talking about who the both of you really are. What do you want with ? And why was I actually chosen?"

"...."

Another round of silence was observed before Elyon simply shrugged his shoulders.

"Beats . I don’t even know how or why you were chosen. All I know is that you have been chosen, so I expect great things from you."

Ray paused as he stared deep into the celestial’s eyes.

"... How did you both get into this position? You sound like... like real people, or souls, or sothing."

"Hm?" Elyon lifted an eyebrow, then chuckled softly. "I don’t know about that... anymore," he whispered the last part to himself, almost too quiet to hear.

"Sorry?"

"It’s nothing."

"So, will I get a story of your origin or a backstory?" Ray demanded calmly.

"Nope. You won’t."

"Huh? Why? You both just showed up in my hea... mind... or is it my soul? Whatever. You guys just showed up here, living rent-free, and I can’t even get to know who my neighbours are?" Ray frowned, his frustration mounting.

"..."

"It is not that I do not want to tell you anything; I simply cannot. That is because my mory is not there. I—I think I have lost my mories or sothing."

****

"What?!" Ray muttered in confusion as he stared at the celestial in shock.

For a brief second, a hint of despair was spotted in Elyon’s eyes before he quickly regained composure and stared at the lad in front of him.

"Yes." Elyon nodded with a tired sigh.

"I believe I have lost my mories, as everything about my past life and how I arrived here is all gone. All I can rember is my na, the basic usage of my powers, and my race as a celestial. That is all."

’Huh? How is it even possible for him to lose his mories?’ Ray wondered.

"I—I do not know how. But I have promised myself to get to the bottom of this," Elyon replied, his hands subtly squeezed across his lap as he spoke.

’Damn. I feel for them.’

"Them? Who is the ’them’?" Bruce’s deep, guttural voice bood around the void. "Just because he lost his mories, doesn’t an I lost mine."

"Huh?" Ray blinked for a few monts, his interest piqued. "So—so you have your own mories intact?"

"Of course not!" Bruce quickly shut the lad down and then burst into a fit of pure, unhinged laughter.

A vein popped across the side of Ray’s head as he glared daggers in the werewolf’s direction, his irritation spiking.

"The hell?!"

"Hahahaha~! Did you see your face? It was lit up with hope and then I crushed it.

Muahahaha~!" Bruce kept laughing like a madman, clearly enjoying the mockery.

"It is not your fault," Ray scoffed as he rose from his seated position.

He angrily turned around and began walking away from the two enigmatic spirits.

Until—

"War. Destruction. Madness. Chaos. Death. And a powerful monster."

"Huh?" Ray paused in confusion, slowly turning around to stare at Elyon, who was now mumbling words while grabbing his head, evidently in imnse pain.

"Aaaargh! My head!" Elyon scread as he clutched his hair so tightly it looked as if he was about to rip it out from the roots.

"Fool," Bruce spat, his expression becoming uncharacteristically serious.

"You think I haven’t tried to recollect too? I t the sa pain and I stopped. So stop as well, otherwise, you will get yourself killed."

’What is going on?!’ Ray thought, paralyzed by the sudden shift in atmosphere.

"Haaaa... Haaaa..." Elyon could be heard panting loudly as his shaky eyes lifted up to stare at Ray.

"I am sorry, kid. I cannot help you by rembering anything. All—all I know is that you need to beco an even greater monster. You need to be more than a monster, and you need to do it fast."

"..."

Ray stared at the celestial for a few seconds and then, without saying another word, turned around and began walking towards the chair.

"I plan to," he spoke over his shoulders as he proceeded to sit.

’Now I wonder if there are other werewolves or celestials in this universe. Although I am not a full werewolf, I would want to know how I scale compared to the others.’

With that final thought, Ray exited the subconscious space.
