15’ - 25’ |

North Macedonia didn’t collapse after conceding and their organization held firm, and in the eighteenth minute they won a corner that was delivered dangerously toward the near post, and Pickford ca to punch but didn’t gather cleanly, and the ball broke to Trajkovski twenty yards out.

The shot ca quickly and powerfully with the trajectory rising toward the top corner, and Pickford recovered brilliantly to tip it over the bar with fingertips while the North Macedonia fans in the corner erupted thinking it was going in.

Warning. They could create chances. This wasn’t Malta.

Southgate made notes on his pad and spoke briefly to his assistant coach while watching the replay on the dugout monitor, and his expression stayed neutral but his attention sharpened because dangerous opponents required different managent than weak ones.

31’ |

Foden received in the half-space between North Macedonia’s midfield and defense, and his first touch took him past one defender before his second touch played a through ball into the channel where Saka’s run had already started.

Saka went one-on-one with the goalkeeper and his finish was calm and precise with the side-foot placent finding the far corner.

GOAL: ENGLAND 2-0 NORTH MACEDONIA (31’ — Saka)

The crowd sang "SAKA! SAKA!" and the celebration was bigger than Kane’s because two-nil felt more comfortable than one-nil, and North Macedonia’s players regrouped quickly and didn’t let their heads drop because professional teams didn’t collapse at two-nil even when playing away against superior opponents.

35’ - 45’ |

England dominated possession with sixty-eight percent to North Macedonia’s thirty-two, but the away team defended well and got bodies behind the ball and blocked shots and made England work for every chance, and the quality of their defensive organization was clear because weaker teams would have conceded three or four by now.

The forty-first minute brought another warning when North Macedonia countered and Trajkovski broke down the right with genuine pace that beat Walker, and his cross found Miovski whose header went wide by two feet, and the chance was close enough that Southgate sat forward and spoke to his assistant again.

North Macedonia’s threat was real even at two-nil down.

The halfti whistle blew and both teams walked off, and Demien followed the squad toward the dressing room with the other substitutes while Southgate walked ahead making notes and preparing whatever adjustnts the second half required.

HALFTI: ENGLAND 2-0 NORTH MACEDONIA

Dressing Room

8:35 PM

Southgate addressed the team while starters drank water and got retaped and physios checked various minor knocks, and his voice was calm and professional without excessive praise or criticism.

"Good first half," he said. "Professional performance. Two-nil up, clean sheet. They’re organized and they’re not giving us easy space. Second half, sa intensity. Don’t switch off. They only need one goal to make this uncomfortable and they’ve shown they can create chances."

The starters listened while continuing their individual routines, and Henderson was getting his right ankle checked by the physio because he’d taken a knock in the thirty-eighth minute, and the physio pressed different spots and asked questions and Henderson nodded and tested the ankle with his weight.

Southgate’s eyes moved to the bench without his expression changing. "Subs—be ready. Depending on how this develops, we may need fresh legs at so point. Stay warm. Stay focused."

No nas. No specifics. No promises.

The substitutes nodded and began light movent in the corridor outside the dressing room—jogging, stretching, staying loose—because being ready ant maintaining readiness throughout the entire match even when the call might never co.

Demien drank water and retaped his right ankle preventatively even though it felt fine, and he checked his boots again and his body was ready and his mind was clear and the skills sat in his muscle mory waiting to be activated.

But no guarantee they’d be used tonight.

Henderson stood and tested his ankle and walked normally and seed fine, and the physio nodded approval and Henderson sat back down and began retaping it himself, and the indication was that he’d finish the match barring sothing worse developing.

Kane addressed the group briefly about maintaining intensity and not inviting pressure, and then the team prepared to return to the pitch for the second half.

Second Half Start

8:47 PM

The second half kicked off and England continued pressing with the sa intensity, and North Macedonia’s organization held but fatigue was starting to show in their recovery runs because defending for forty-five minutes against England’s quality required enormous energy expenditure.

48’ |

A counter-attack developed when North Macedonia won possession in midfield, and Trajkovski broke down the right again with the pace that had caused problems in the first half, and his cross found Bardhi whose shot from eighteen yards forced Pickford into a save that looked routine but required good positioning.

Warning. North Macedonia still dangerous.

Southgate watched without reaching for substitutes yet because two-nil was comfortable and England were controlling the match, and making changes too early could disrupt rhythm unnecessarily.

52’ |

The goal ca from a North Macedonia corner that Pickford caught and threw quickly to start the counter, and the ball moved through Rice who drove forward before playing a through ball into space where Rashford’s run had already started.

Rashford cut inside from the left and his shot was powerful and low and found the inside of the near post before the goalkeeper could get across.

GOAL: ENGLAND 3-0 NORTH MACEDONIA (52’ — Rashford)

Old Trafford roared and the ga felt over at three-nil, and Southgate still didn’t imdiately reach for substitutes because he wanted to see whether North Macedonia collapsed or responded with pride.

52’ - 65’ |

North Macedonia didn’t collapse and they pushed forward trying to get a consolation goal because professional pride mattered even at three-nil down, and they created a half-chance in the fifty-eighth minute when Trajkovski shot from distance and Pickford saved comfortably.

England’s dominance continued and Foden hit the post in the sixty-second minute with a shot that had the goalkeeper beaten, and the rebound was cleared before anyone could follow up.

The sixty-third minute brought the mont that changed Southgate’s thinking when Henderson grimaced after a challenge and tried to run off whatever was bothering his ankle, and he continued playing but the limp was visible and his movent was compromised.

Southgate saw it and turned toward the bench.

The sixty-fourth minute brought another North Macedonia counter when Miovski broke through on goal and Stones made a crucial sliding tackle that won the ball cleanly and prevented a potential three-one scoreline, and Southgate’s decision crystallized because fresh legs were needed and Henderson’s ankle wasn’t right.

He stood and walked toward the bench while the ga continued.

65’ | The Substitution

Southgate’s voice carried clearly to the bench. "Grealish, Walter, Mount—get ready."

Triple substitution. Demien stood with Grealish and Mount and all three began removing their tracksuits, and the fourth official prepared the substitution board while the three of them did final stretches and checked their boots and waited for the stoppage.

Demien’s heart rate increased slightly but not dramatically because this was opportunity arriving based on match needs rather than promises being fulfilled, and staying calm was part of being ready.

The fourth official raised the board at the next stoppage:
