Chapter 454: Chapter 448 She Got Off Easy
The voice that answered the phone was Gu Ning’s, which inherently lacked much softness.
“Uncle Gu, it’s me.”
“Uh-huh, I know,” Gu Ning lazily sipped tea as he held the cup, opposite him was his older brother, Gu Qing.
Tang Yuxin helplessly sighed, ah, municating with a man who doesn’t talk much was really challenging.
“Uncle Gu, thank you for helping me buy the furniture,” Tang Yuxin felt overwhelmingly grateful, perhaps she should offer some money. But she knew very well that Gu Ning would not accept her money. “If you want to thank me, you could make more of those medicines you gave me. My mom’s been sleeping better lately, and her spirits have lifted quite a bit too.”
“Sure,” Tang Yuxin agreed readily, “The medicine can regulate sleep. However, it should only be used for two rounds, at most. We must avoid dependence on drugs.”
“Yeah, I understand.” Gu Ning agreed, he wasn’t eager to see his mother stuck in a maze of drug-dependent insomnia or endless sleep disturbance. Not being able to sleep without drugs, feeling dizzy, turbulence of the mind, or insomnia, apart from physical reasons, there were also psychological ones.
But now, his mother cherished those medications more than her own life. First, let her have a good sleep for a while. After all, it had been over a decade since she last slept peacefully.
They, who could fall asleep the second they lie down, could never truly prehend the lives of those who struggled with chronic sleep issues and how unbearable their agony and helplessness could be.
He put down the phone, only to discover Gu Qing was looking out. What was he thinking about?
Mimicking Gu Qing, he looked up only to see the sun had already risen high in the sky. Outside, the weather was fine.
However, unbeknownst to why, an indescribable gloom pervaded both the brothers.
Tang Yuxin went to retract the quilts she had hung out drying. Holding them, she made her way back to her dormitory, but she was called only a few steps away.
“Yuxin, Tang Yuxin…”
Tang Yuxin turned her head, oh, it was Li Jia.
“Yuxin, it really is you,” Li Jia rushed over, “I thought I was mistaken, but it really is you.”
“So, you came too,” Tang Yuxin wasn’t surprised, as she already knew Li Jia would also stay. In addition, two others were also staying but they were not from the Fifth Military Medical University, so she wasn’t familiar with them.
“Yeah, I stayed,” even now, Li Jia was still excited, “You don’t know how terrified I was when I received the call. I originally thought Wei Jiani would stay, but it wasn’t her, it was me,” she indicated to herself, “Can you believe how lucky I am?”
“By the way,” Li Jia continued after studying Tang Yuxin, who stood there with her quilt, for a while, “Yuxin, are you going to work here too?”
“Yes,” Tang Yuxin opened the door inviting Li Jia in, “from now on, we are colleagues.” Li Jia, with envy, admired Tang Yuxin’s beautiful two-bedroom-and-one-living-room dormitory. She wasn’t jealous though. The best thing about her was her self-awareness. How skilled she is directly influenced how much work she could handle. She had understood this principle since childhood, so she remained calm. Really calm.
She promptly sat down on Tang Yuxin’s soft bed.
“Huh! Yuxin, this acmodation must be assigned by the hospital, right? Such a big apartment and it even has a living room! I got a one-bedroom-and-living-room apartment, and I thought it was vast, like the one you used when we were interning. I was already satisfied, but now, yours is much larger than mine.”
“There were only larger apartments left, so it’s not like I had much choice. I lucked out I guess. But it’s going to be difficult to clean.” Tang Yuxin laid out her quilt while speaking. It seemed like gaining a large apartment was not a fortunate thing at all. Other people only had one bed to clean, while she had two. She had to clean twice as much; meant she would waste twice as much time.
“You’re lucky and yet here you are, pretending otherwise,” Li Jia yanked at Tang Yuxin’s long hair, “Your hair’s so long and looks so good. If you pull it out like this…” Tang Yuxin touched her own hair, contemplating whether to cut it off, especially considering her hectic schedule. Even meals were often neglected, let alone washing hair. She didn’t want to see patients with greasy hair.
Li Jia went on about a lot of things. Now that she knew where she would be in the long run and she could be a doctor in a military hospital, she was ecstatic, as it had been her lifelong dream. However, now that her dream had e true, she felt somewhat lost.
She spoke while Tang Yuxin just listened. Time didn’t feel slow. When they came back to reality, it was already evening. Both of them dined in the hospital cafeteria, then prepared for the formal start to work the next day.
Early next morning, as soon as the whistle blew, Tang Yuxin was already up. She looked outside the window. From here, she could see others already exercising. She also got dressed and prepared to go running, something she hadn’t done in a while. She wasn’t sure if she still had it in her.
She remembered that before she went home, she could manage seven laps. In reality though, her athletic petence was really lacking. By the fifth lap, she was barely hanging on. She could only walk slowly across the field. She felt those soldiers running lap after lap were mocking her turtle’s pace.
She didn’t understand why they would laugh at her. She was a doctor and did not need to be proficient in long-distance running.
After walking another round, she returned to her residence. The sheer size of the place was really convenient, ranging from the washing machine to the fridge, the TV, and the fortable acmodation. But every time she remembered everything was bought by that Uncle Gu, she felt uneasy using them. As a result, she planned to produce more sleeping aids for Gu’s grandma. The first thing was to cure grandma’s insomnia.
