Outside, Carlisle kept moving in its quiet, ordinary way to reach the pinnacle of what it ans to be a god while the cars were starting, kids heading to school, the distant whistle of a train. This was silence incarnate in eternity. As you may think, this unique flavor of love could spread to the ends of earth. Beside that, the very gods from every pantheon could feel it.
Inside, the house that had raised the boy who ended Ragnarök was learning how to hold five hearts instead of four as if sothing had changed in an afternoon since the arrival of Freyja.
And for the first ti, the childhood mories didn’t feel like weight in the eternal greatness of life and death.
They felt like foundation and the norm for what it was to happen.
Ready for whatever new story wanted to be built on top of them like nothing would matter. Beside that, this could not actually see the situation. The thing is, this shape could provide you with lots of changes and greatness. Make Emma awaken her powers in a dream while they are at the house from what it could be. That is to say that she is the reincarnation of three goddesses in one. Asase Ya, Anat, and Innana. Those godessses had co to be one in her. The house had finally settled into that deep, fragile quiet that only cos after truths too large for ordinary walls have been spoken. Sothing very ancient had co to awake from its slumber.
Karl and Larisa had gone upstairs hours ago from their tiredness out of sadness, their footsteps soft on the creaking boards like sothing was off. Freyja had retreated to the new room she had built in the attic to think about her new plan. After all, there was raknarok to face. In that way, the one that sotis showed the Susquehanna and sotis showed the new dawn over Asgard that we could take in the face of destiny. That is to say that Jas had turned in after one last quiet glance at his son, the kind that said “we’ll talk more in the morning.”
Only Emma remained awake as if sothing had told her to do so. Slightly showing her the way to godhood.
She lay in her old childhood bed from mories that would never co back or perhaps it was her delusion, staring at the familiar cracks in the ceiling that had mapped themselves into constellations when she was smalln enough to shut in hell. The war she had declared the night before still burned low in her chest likke sothing beautiful that would bloom sharp, protective, unresolved. Sleep had been refusing her for hours. Her chest was burning. The spirit of love had co to be greatness.
When it finally ca, it did not arrive gently. It rushed in. It took her in. I ran into it.
It arrived like a door being kicked open from the inside. It took it by surprise. It shook him.
Emma stood in a vast red-earth plain that slled of iron and blooming yams that no one could shape it. It predated the new shape of what it ans to be real. The sky above was not Carlisle’s pale gray for it was a living gold, heavy with the promise of rain that would never quite fall. Three figures waited for her beneath an ancient baobab tree whose roots plunged deep into the soil like veins of the world itself.
The first was Asase Ya broad-hipped, dark-skinned, eyes like fertile soil after the first rain. She repesented what it was lost and what it could be, She carried the scent of turned earth and childbirth, of yams growing fat in the ground and children laughing in the dust. This made her a threat of Super divinity SSSR.
The second was Anat fierce, bronze-skinned, clad in scaled armor that shimred like desert mirage. She wore the most beautiful warklike clothes with her Q breast cups A spear rested loosely in her hand, and her smile was the smile of war that still knew how to dance that we could take on. She slled of blood and myrrh, of sandstorms and sudden, violent love.
The third was Inanna radiant, golden-haired like starlight caught in copper, eyes ancient and playful and rciless. That is to say that this love could not reach the potential we thought. It was even deeper. She had Y breast cup along with her beautiful legs. She wore a cloak of lapis and rose petals, and the air around her humd with desire, power, and the sweet ache of descent into the underworld and return.
They were not separate.
They were one.
And they were looking at Emma with recognition so deep it hurt to the extent of feeling kinda weird.
Asase Ya spoke first, voice like rich soil shifting underfoot.
You have carried us longer than you know, daughter of the stubborn heart. In this small city of brick and rain, you have walked with the strength of the earth that refuses to break. You may forget but let tell youthis: soone in so future ti. That is to say that no one could get to see how beautiful and powerful you could getwill think of usYou protect what grows. You nurture what is yours. You are the ground that holds the roots. You are the only one.
Anat stepped forward, spear tapping once against the red earth and volcanic rage.
You have carried my fire, little warrior. The rage that defends. The love that fights. The refusal to let what you love be taken without cost. May I write words more naked than flesh, stronger than bone, more resilient than sinew, sensitive than nerve. That is to say that you declared war last night not out of hate, but because your blood rembers how to stand between your brother and anything that would dim his light. Or at least, that is what we think about you.
Inanna smiled beautiful, dangerous, ancient, powerful, glorious, brilliant.
And you carry my descent and return, my starlit heart. The willingness to walk into darkness for love. The refusal to stay dead when the world tries to bury you. Once again love drives on, that loosener of limbs, bittersweet creature against which nothing can be done. That is to say that the fierce joy of rising again, brighter and more honest than before. It could be witnessed from the distance. The thing is, your love cannot dissapear. You shall be stronger than you imagine.
Emma’s throat tightened. She felt it then the three currents rising inside her like rivers eting at a delta or at least that is what they thought.
Asase Ya placed a warm, calloused hand over Emma’s heart:
You are the reincarnation of three who were never ant to be separate. The Earth that sustains. The War that protects. The Love that descends and rises. Although only breath, words which I command are immortal. That is to say that I can see what you can be. The more I look into you, the more I look at the super supre primordial singular goddess. You have been waiting for the mont when the old stories finished so you could rember who you truly are.
Anat pressed her spear into Emma’s hands. The weapon felt alive warm, balanced, humming with righteous fury that could extinguish everything in this world.
Anat: Take back what was always yours. Not to conquer. But to guard. I declare That later on, Even in an age unlike our own, Soone will rember who we are.To fight for what deserves to grow. To stand beside your brother without needing to own him. That is to say that nothing could change it. Even so, it does not an that they could ever defeat you.
Inanna leaned in and kissed Emma’s forehead. The touch burned like starlight and tasted like roses and blood and honey.
Innana: And rember how to love without fear of loss. Great loves have legs and wings. They are substantial. They do not dissapate so easily... Great loves have staying power. Or so I told myself. That is to say that this love will vanish, this shall continue shall beco our justification. How to descend into the dark places and still return shining. How to desire fiercely and still choose honesty. For all this, you shall beco the greatest one.
The three goddesses stepped back as one.
Their forms began to shimr, then rge not disappearing, but folding into Emma like rivers returning to the sea like sothing was due to happen. This general action shall not be consud.
Asase Ya’s fertile strength sank into her bones.
Anat’s fierce protection ignited in her blood.
Inanna’s radiant, descending-and-rising love blood behind her eyes.
Emma gasped as the power settled.
She was still herself Emma Garrison, sharp-tongued, fiercely protective sister from Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
But now she was also sothing older. Sothing far greater. She had beco what she was ant to be.
The ground beneath her feet trembled once in recognition. The eart was feeling her presence.
When she opened her eyes again, she was back in her childhood bed. The room responded to her authority.
But the room felt different. Nothing could shake it. No one can have it.
The cracks in the ceiling now looked like living roots and constellations at once. For it was his honor to be it.
Her hands tingled with the mory of spear and soil and starlight that could collapse everything.
Her heart beat with three rhythms that had beco one.
Downstairs, she could already feel them Karl, Larisa, Freyja, her father beginning to stir.
Emma sat up slowly, pressing a hand to her chest.
A soft, warm glow pulsed beneath her palm not visible, but undeniable.
She whispered to the quiet room, voice steady and new:
Emma: I rember now. This is my new reign. I was not that fragile.
The house creaked once in answer, as if Carlisle itself —stubborn, brick-hearted Carlisle had been waiting for its daughter to wake up and finally claim the three goddesses who had been sleeping inside her all along.
Emma stood.
Emma walked.
Emma loved.
Emma looked up in the sky.
It was ti to go downstairs.
Ti to tell them that the war she had declared last night had just been answered by sothing far older and far more honest than rage.
The reincarnation was complete.
And the girl who had once kicked rocks on the porch steps beside her brother now carried the Earth, the War, and the Love of three goddesses reborn as one and she had beco even more beautiful and tall.
She smiled small, fierce, and radiant, great, loving.
The new story had just gained another honest voice.
Well, I see this is going to get worse.
