Chapter 101 - Zhang Chongning
Chen Ran didn't explain it to his sister; he couldn't possibly just tell her the truth directly.
Matters of the heart were quite private. Even with parents, there were tis when things couldn't be said.
Chen Yao didn't press the issue. According to her understanding, it was either due to Zhang Xiyun's current work, or the couple's relationship was unstable.
Aside from that, she couldn't think of anything else.
She actually understood it too. After all, Zhang Xiyun was a singer. As Ruyi's mother had just said, she was always outside busy with work, not even having ti to co ho for the New Year. It was a bit too unstable.
What Chen Yao couldn't quite wrap her head around was that her brother, Chen Ran, was a relatively pragmatic person.
How could he possibly date Zhang Xiyun just because of a blind date?
With Zhang Xiyun being so busy that she didn't even have ti to go ho for the New Year, where would they find the ti to cultivate their feelings?
They couldn't possibly be online dating, right!
In the end, Chen Yao still couldn't figure it out, but Chen Ran's slightly conflicted appearance was quite similar to people in love on TV dramas.
She had two roommates who, after finding boyfriends, would occasionally display this kind of posture too. It looked quite sappy.
Chen Yao went off to whisper with Zhang Ruyi, while Chen Ran discussed program matters with Director Zhang.
Regarding satellite TV channel programs, Director Zhang couldn't offer many suggestions.
He had never been to the satellite TV channel. Although he was currently the program departnt director, he was only responsible for the public channel.
He could only talk about concepts with Chen Ran; when it ca down to the details, his thinking couldn't keep up.
As a result, Chen Ran did the talking most of the ti, and he would occasionally nod and offer a bit of his own perspective.
Chen Yao stayed here for the night with Zhang Ruyi, while Chen Ran had to head back.
Sensing that Uncle Zhang was in a sowhat bad mood, he politely declined Uncle Zhang's offer to drive him back and went out to hail a taxi himself.
Aunt Yun finished cleaning up the kitchen, and upon opening the door, she imdiately slled the scent of smoke.
Frowning, she walked over and saw her husband's back looking sowhat desolate. He was staring blankly at the black TV screen, the cigarette pinched between his two fingers almost burnt out.
She walked over and asked, "Chongning, what's wrong with you?"
Director Zhang snapped back to reality, stubbed out the cigarette butt in his hand into a cup with water, and finally said, "I'm feeling a bit uncomfortable."
"Where are you feeling uncomfortable?" Aunt Yun sat down beside him.
Director Zhang said, "Suddenly feeling a bit emotional. Think about this kid Chen Ran. When I first t him, he had just entered the TV station. I could help him, could look after him a bit. In the blink of an eye, he has achieved results and might imdiately go to the satellite TV channel."
"Isn't this a good thing? You're usually pondering how to help Chen Ran advance further, how co now that he has an opportunity, you've instead beco emotional over it." Aunt Yun was a bit uncomprehending.
"It just hurts in my heart," Director Zhang said sullenly.
"When he went to the entertainnt channel, I could still act as a gatekeeper for his programs, I could co up with ideas for him."
"But just now, when I was chatting with him about the satellite TV channel programs, I actually couldn't get a word in."
"Once he goes to the satellite TV channel, I really won't be able to help him."
Director Zhang fell silent after finishing his words.
Aunt Yun also didn't know what to say. Although her husband said he treated Chen Ran as a nephew or a son-in-law, he completely treated him as his own biological son.
Watching helplessly as Chen Ran went from an intern, entered the entertainnt channel, and reached the point where he was now going to work at the satellite TV channel.
It was just like watching a child grow up step by step, until finally, one couldn't intervene in their work and life anymore.
Back then, when Zhang Fanzhi went to beco a singer, Director Zhang had also felt this kind of loss.
……
Chen Yao hurried back ho the next morning.
With Chen Ran not at the Zhang family ho, even with Zhang Ruyi there, she still felt awkward, so she hurried back not long after getting up.
She only called Chen Ran after she had arrived.
Chen Ran knew his own sister's temper and wasn't surprised either.
Chen Yao was a bit like him during his high school years—thin-skinned and sowhat introverted.
Once she truly started working, she would get much better.
Chen Ran's thick skin was also forged during his college part-ti jobs. Now, as ti passed, it had been taken to an even higher level.
Sitting in front of the computer, Chen Ran listed out his thoughts.
After going back last night, he had pondered for a long ti before finally settling on a finalized plan. What he lacked now was the ti to write it out.
Seeing Chen Ran working on a proposal, Lin Fan asked curiously, "Are you doing the new program proposal for the satellite TV channel?"
Chen Ran shook his head: "No, it's for the tropolitan channel."
Lin Fan was stunned: "The tropolitan channel? You aren't mistaken, are you? How did you end up writing a proposal for the tropolitan channel?!"
He had been in the entertainnt channel for a few years, but he had always treated the tropolitan channel as a competitor.
Now, because of I Love Rembering Lyrics and Challenge the Microphone, the entertainnt channel and the tropolitan channel had widened the gap, becoming the sole top channel just beneath the satellite TV channel.
They hadn't been gloating for long; how co Chen Ran was going to help the tropolitan channel write a program?
"You couldn't be... making extra money on the side, right?" Lin Fan said with so suspicion.
"You're too careless. If you're going to do this kind of thing, do it when you go back. What if soone else sees you doing it here?"
Chen Ran laughed and said, "You think too much. I got all these materials from the director; what 'extra money'. The other party approached the director to ask us to produce a program. In the end, everyone was busy, so the task fell to ."
Upon hearing this, Lin Fan knew he had overthought it. However, Chen Ran's explanation made his teeth ache. What did he an by "everyone was busy"? The busiest person should have been Chen Ran.
He guessed that the people at the tropolitan channel had taken a liking to Chen Ran's planning and requested him by na. Otherwise, the director would have just had the departnt head hold a eting.
"It's almost the New Year, why is the tropolitan channel still producing programs?" Lin Fan muttered.
Chen Ran said, "They are revamping after the New Year, so they need so new programs. I reckon they have a bit too much work and couldn't manage it all, which is why they ca to our side."
Lin Fan said in exasperation, "Fine, they looked for you because they wanted you. What are you making up so many excuses for?"
Chen Ran smiled, "I was just afraid you'd feel sad!"
Lin Fan was speechless. You acting like this makes even sadder!
……
Director's office.
Chen Ran knocked on the door.
He only went in after the director responded.
"Director, the program is written." Chen Ran handed the file over.
Yang Qijun was slightly surprised and took the file.
"This fast?"
There were still two days until the New Year holiday.
He had thought Chen Ran would drag it out until the last two days before handing in the proposal; it was much faster than expected.
However, thinking back to I Love Rembering Lyrics, Chen Ran had also written it in just a few days. And Challenge the Microphone was even more exaggerated.
Although Chen Ran explained that he had thought of a similar format before, filling in all the details in a single morning was still remarkable.
Compared to that, taking two or three days now didn't seem so incomprehensible.
"Have a seat first." Yang Qijun motioned for Chen Ran to sit down, and only then did he start flipping open the file.
He was quite looking forward to Chen Ran's proposal.
Chen Ran wasn't like the other veterans; his way of thinking always made people find everything fresh and new.
For example, with Challenge the Microphone, no one would have thought he could create such a program based on I Love Rembering Lyrics.
Looking at it carefully, Yang Qijun raised an eyebrow slightly.
"True Feelings?"
This was the program's na. He mulled over it for a bit, not understanding what type of program it was.
