Chapter 114 - A Bit Interesting
Regarding talk shows, Director Zhang certainly had no concept of them, but he did know about solo cross-talk.
It was too niche!
The current antique history program in the Thursday late-night slot was already niche enough, right? Solo cross-talk sounded about the sa as that.
Director Zhang glanced at Chen Ran. Seeing Chen Ran smiling faintly, he didn't say anything more and looked at the content first.
Upon taking a look, his eyebrows twitched.
The "solo cross-talk" Chen Ran ntioned was only in terms of its format; the content was vastly different.
It took trending events, public opinion, and so on, kneading them into codic bits accompanied by comntary.
This kind of program indeed wouldn't require much funding. After all, the stage requirents for the program were simple, and it didn't need any big celebrities. What it needed was an eloquent host with their own distinct characteristics.
Since Director Zhang was a program producer himself, he could also see the essence of the program, which was the content the host would speak.
A host wasn't hard to find; the script for every episode was the key.
The format of this kind of program was singular. To make people want to keep watching, the content of every episode had to be attractive enough.
"This idea of yours, it's a bit difficult."
Director Zhang looked at it for a long while before finally giving such an evaluation.
In his eyes, this kind of program was too extre, and it was highly likely to be a thankless task.
It definitely had novelty. There were quite a few talk programs, but a stand-up "talk show"—this was the very first one.
However, he couldn't clearly see the program's prospects. After all, what such a program needed was content. Just looking at the format, it was indeed hard to judge.
"It's definitely a bit difficult. Before I submit the proposal, I'll polish a script for one episode..." Chen Ran had also thought about this problem.
If it was just the program frawork, it was too simple. Once the satellite TV channel leaders took a look, hey, isn't this just ssing around?
Even Director Zhang, who trusted Chen Ran so much, held doubts, let alone the other station leaders.
Therefore, content that could attract attention was definitely still needed.
Chen Ran also wanted to produce other programs, but the budget was truly too small. Although it was said that if the proposal was a bit better, the station would appropriately increase the budget, but how much could they actually increase it by?
Even added up, it still wouldn't be enough to invite a single celebrity. Putting it on the satellite TV channel would truly be unbearably shabby.
Rather than this, it would be better to make a good program within the budget limits.
Seeing Chen Ran's deanor, Director Zhang knew he was already determined to do this proposal.
Although he wasn't too optimistic about it, he didn't try to persuade him otherwise.
Chen Ran was a person with his own ideas. Being able to produce programs like 'Zhaonan Focus' and 'I Love Rembering Lyrics', he definitely had his own thoughts on producing a talk show.
……
When Chen Ran said he was going to write a script, he wasn't sloppy about it.
There were famous talk shows on Earth, but Chen Ran couldn't rember their exact lines either. Moreover, the two worlds were different; even if he rembered them, he couldn't possibly copy them wholesale, right?
With one person speaking up there on a talk show, it definitely couldn't be dry; it had to be humorous and have punchlines.
You at least had to ensure the audience found it interesting and felt happy watching it, and the script also had to make the majority of people feel a sense of relatability; it couldn't be disconnected from the masses.
To be honest, this was actually quite difficult.
Other talk shows all had dedicated teams to write their scripts, and even then, what they wrote had highs and lows. For Chen Ran to want to do it all by himself was a bit difficult.
However, he also had a certain advantage. Many jokes from Earth hadn't appeared in this world. By stripping out the context and adapting them, he could use them directly.
Even so, it still took him a few days to finish writing the script.
Chen Ran didn't give it directly to the Director, but instead showed it to Director Zhang again.
This ti, Director Zhang didn't say much. First, he looked at it with furrowed brows, and after a long while, he finally popped out a sentence:
"It looks quite good."
Director Zhang didn't have much worry anymore, nor did he pick out any faults.
Just looking at the script Chen Ran wrote, it was very interesting. If the program ca out and the script was still at this level, he didn't know about others, but he would definitely watch it.
Director Zhang finally said, "I think there's no problem, but you'd better discuss it with Director Yang."
Chen Ran nodded. He was in the entertainnt channel, working under Director Yang. When the ti ca, he would still have to ask Director Yang to submit the proposal, so naturally, he had to go discuss it first.
The next day when he went to work, he went to find Yang Qijun.
"What, you've written the proposal already?"
Yang Qijun raised an eyebrow, not expecting Chen Ran to be this fast.
A while back, when Chen Ran was helping the tropolitan Channel write their proposal, he already felt this guy was a bit fast.
But it was different now. This was a satellite TV program; you always had to consider it for a longer period of ti and think things through thoroughly!
After all, the satellite TV channel was not the sa as a local channel. The audience was nationwide; one could never be too careful.
"It's already finalized. Now I'd like to ask the Director to help look it over," Chen Ran said with a smile.
Yang Qijun took the proposal.
He knew Chen Ran; if this guy didn't write sothing, fine, but once he wrote a proposal, it was naturally complete and intact.
At least judging from his previous several programs, there was nothing for him to polish.
Seeing the program na, his thought was exactly the sa as Director Zhang's: What kind of thing is a talk show?
However, he only glanced at Chen Ran, didn't ask, and started reading the content first.
Upon reading it, his brows furrowed, and it wasn't until he saw the script Chen Ran wrote at the back that his brows slightly relaxed.
Seeing Yang Qijun deep in thought, Chen Ran didn't disturb him. Only when the other party looked over did he ask:
"Director, what do you think of this program?"
Yang Qijun thought for a mont and said, "It's creative, but it also has risks!"
Not only did it have risks, but the risks were not small.
Chen Ran had done his research and had likewise written the program analysis into the proposal.
But which program hadn't done research? They would do audience segntation and target the intended audience to produce the program, but those that were bound to flop would still flop.
This program of Chen Ran's was a program format that hadn't appeared before. Director Yang could also see that the program relied heavily on the script. If the script was good, the program's level would be high, and vice versa.
If it were up to Yang Qijun to choose, if it were placed in the entertainnt channel, he would also be happy to produce such a program. But for the satellite TV channel, he wasn't sure.
Yang Qijun asked, "Are you sure you want to just do this program?"
"I'm sure." Chen Ran nodded. He did have other programs, but after comparing them, the talk show was more suitable.
Yang Qijun glanced at the proposal again before saying:
"Let's do this: I won't submit your proposal up yet. I'll study it together with the Director of the tropolitan Channel. If we have any feedback, we'll tell you. If we both feel there's no problem, we'll help send it to the satellite TV channel for you."
"Thank you, Director," Chen Ran expressed his gratitude.
Yang Qijun thought highly of Chen Ran. Since he decided to let him move up, he wanted to make the preparations a bit more thorough.
The tropolitan Channel's Director also owed Chen Ran a favor. With everyone checking it together, there is strength in numbers, and being able to offer so feedback was also a good thing.
……
In the end, neither of the two directors offered any feedback.
The program format was new, and Chen Ran's proposal had thought of everything that needed to be thought of, and everything that could be written was fully fleshed out.
Just like Yang Qijun, the tropolitan Channel's Director also stated that if this program wasn't selected by the satellite station, their channel wanted to produce it.
Under the recomndation of the two directors, Chen Ran's program proposal was sent directly to the satellite TV channel, landing in the hands of the Satellite TV Channel Director.
"tropolitan Channel, Entertainnt Channel? What are they joining the fun for?" Satellite TV Channel Director Ma Wenlong was slightly puzzled.
He finished reading the proposal, turned it over to look at the signature, and looked thoughtful.
"This program is not bad, but... isn't this too fast? The news only ca out a few days ago, was it prepared in advance? But the budget is so tight, it doesn't seem like it either..."
"This Chen Ran is a bit interesting..."
Ma Wenlong called his assistant over and said, "Go send out a notice, we're holding an impromptu eting."
