Chapter 69 - Depends on My Mood
By noon, they still hadn’t discussed a definite plan, so they could only adjourn the eting and get off work.
Everyone had plenty of ideas, but after all that talking, there wasn’t a single one that qualified as a stunning or brilliant concept.
Lin Fan held no hope for the position of Head Planner, yet he was still thinking seriously. However, the creative ideas he proposed were similar to everyone else’s—impossible to distinguish from the crowd and lacking any competitive edge.
Seeing Chen Ran leisurely sipping tea to the side, Lin Fan couldn't help but ask, “Don’t you have any ideas at all?”
Chen Ran set down his teacup and said, “What ideas could I possibly have? With I Love Rembering Lyrics doing so well, do you think the Director would let work on a new program?”
Lin Fan supposed that made sense.
Although so people worked on two program crews simultaneously, that usually happened when a program had already reached the later stages of production.
Right now, I Love Rembering Lyrics was just starting, and Chen Ran was indispensable to the crew; the situation was entirely different.
Looking at Chen Ran’s calm deanor, Lin Fan wondered: if I Love Rembering Lyrics didn't exist, would it be possible for Chen Ran to compete for the Head Planner position?
Back then, Chen Ran was only competing against him, so the competition was much smaller. Now, with all these veterans in the mix, the difficulty was much higher.
He thought for a mont—unless Chen Ran could produce another stunning proposal like I Love Rembering Lyrics, his chances wouldn't be very high.
Of course, Chen Ran wasn't participating, so such a scenario wouldn't play out.
……
After eating lunch with Director Zhang, the afternoon discussion began.
Except for those who had urgent work to attend to, everyone else was rounded up to stay here together.
By the afternoon, they finally had so direction.
There were two potential paths for the new program: one was an indoor obstacle/challenge ga show, and the other was a fashion news/information program.
Both programs had their own advantages.
The indoor obstacle show was relatively novel and, for a Sunday ti slot, would be quite stress-relieving.
anwhile, the fashion information program took into account the previous audience base of Qingying Lecture; if it were turned into fashion news, it would have a sufficient audience foundation.
The group essentially split into two factions, discussing heatedly and refusing to give an inch. Director Liu also furrowed his brows, finding it difficult to choose.
Even by closing ti, nothing had been settled. Director Liu said, “Everyone go back and consider this carefully today. We will vote tomorrow morning to finalize the program!”
Although he wanted a quick resolution, he preferred quality over quantity. If they produced a show like Boundless Joy that turned out even worse than the current Qingying Lecture, what would be the point?
If there were too many bad programs, poor ratings would be one thing, but the inability to raise advertising and sponsorship fees in the future would be the most fatal blow.
……
When Chen Ran returned ho, he was also pondering the choice.
If it were up to him, he would definitely lean toward the indoor obstacle show. While fashion news had an audience base, its ceiling wasn't as high as the indoor obstacle show.
Of course, he only had the right to vote, not the power to decide.
At that mont, Chen Ran’s WeChat chid.
A Single Flower: “Are you there?”
Chen Ran was slightly speechless. Just as he picked up his phone to reply, another ssage ca through.
“Did sothing go wrong with your program?”
Chen Ran raised an eyebrow. The program was doing just fine, with ratings repeatedly hitting new highs; what could possibly go wrong? Where did she get her news?
He was just about to reply on WeChat when his ringtone suddenly went off!
Seeing the na "Zhizhi" on his phone, Chen Ran found it sowhat amusing.
Since you were going to call anyway, why bother sending those two WeChat ssages? Just playing with for fun, aren't you?
After answering the call, Chen Ran heard Zhang Fanzhi ask, “Did sothing go wrong with your program?”
“Where did you get your news?” Chen Ran asked curiously.
“My dad’s Monts,” Zhang Fanzhi said.
She had seen the sentintal post Director Zhang made and the comnts below it about a host who "couldn't see past things."
Combined with Chen Ran’s hurried return to Lin City on Saturday, she finally thought to send a WeChat ssage to ask.
However, after asking, she felt she had waited too long for a reply and assud he hadn't checked his phone, so she called him instead.
Chen Ran explained, "The one with the problem isn't our program; it's another program crew. The female host had so relationship issues and then attempted suicide..."
"You rushed back that day just because of this?" Zhang Fanzhi asked.
"Yeah, I told you the TV station had so business," Chen Ran said.
Zhang Fanzhi knit her brows and remained silent.
No wonder her father had been sharing emotional articles from various public accounts on his Monts over the past few days; it turned out he was moved because of this incident.
Retracting her thoughts, Zhang Fanzhi asked, "Why didn't you explain it clearly that day?"
Chen Ran said helplessly, "You didn't give the chance."
"You could have said it on WeChat," Zhang Fanzhi said.
"Who knew if you were going to blacklist again!" Chen Ran muttered.
He was still brooding over the fact that Zhang Fanzhi had blacklisted his WeChat back then; she had fabricated chat records and nearly made Uncle Zhang view him as a scumbag.
"......"
Zhang Fanzhi’s lips twitched. That was sothing from a long ti ago, yet he was still bringing it up.
She said in a slow, composed manner, "My new song goes online next Friday. This Saturday, I'll be going to your Zhaonan Satellite TV to record an episode of a program."
"Saturday?" Chen Ran was montarily dazed. He had thought she would be running around outside for a long ti and wouldn't have ti to co back.
"It's a pre-recording. By the ti the song goes online, the program will be broadcast around that sa ti," Zhang Fanzhi said.
"The company contacted them for you?" Chen Ran asked.
Zhang Fanzhi said calmly, "The company isn't providing promotion. Sister Lin contacted them herself."
Chen Ran felt that the conflict between her and the company was quite significant. There were still two years left on her contract, and he didn't know what she was thinking.
Generally, stars who clashed with their companies didn't have very smooth developnt. Moreover, Zhang Fanzhi had such a good start; if she were held back now, things would be quite difficult in the future.
The two chatted for a few more monts before hanging up.
Chen Ran felt that Zhang Fanzhi wasn't angry anymore, so did that al she had "canceled" last ti still count?
He thought about it and asked via WeChat, then stared at his phone waiting for a reply. He watched as a minute passed without a ssage.
When one is anticipating an answer, ti feels a bit sluggish; a single minute felt like a very long ti.
Ding.
A Single Flower: "Depends on my mood."
Chen Ran was slightly speechless and didn't reply.
It would have been better if I hadn't asked!
……
The next day, as soon as Chen Ran arrived at the TV station, he heard Director Liu announce sothing.
"The next episode of Qingying Lecture doesn't need to be recorded. It’s canceled!"
After Director Liu finished speaking, everyone below was stunned.
They had all been saying that they had to grit their teeth and hold on for a few episodes no matter what, waiting for the next program to co out. Why the sudden change?
Director Liu’s expression was also very poor; he was unwilling to share this news. However, Fang Qingying’s family had brought the matter to the station, claiming she had attempted suicide due to unbearable work pressure...
Furthermore, they had posted quite a few threads on local forums last night, attempting to stir up public opinion.
The matter had alard Zhaonan Radio and Television. Under these circumstances, how could Qingying Lecture be allowed to continue broadcasting?
No matter how much money they would lose or how difficult it would be, the program definitely could not air!
"There's no need to choose a program anymore. It's decided—it will be the Indoor Obstacle Course!" Director Liu made another decision.
If the program was off the air for several weeks, the audience would be gone, so there was no use for a fashion news program.
"Then what about these few weeks while the program is being prepared?" Director Wu Jin asked.
"We can't air Qingying Lecture. Dig out so previously broadcast programs and air them for a few episodes..."
Director Liu also knew that doing this would cause too much damage to their loyal user base. After a few weeks like this, it was likely that no one would be watching the Entertainnt Channel on Sundays.
But what other choice was there? He was also very helpless.
