Chapter 95 - Preparing for a Rainy Day
Director Zhang treated him well; Chen Ran knew this clearly in his heart.
From the ti the two t up until now, he had treated him better and better.
In the past, it was as a nephew; later, because of Zhang Fanzhi, he treated Chen Ran as a son-in-law.
People all say a son-in-law is considered half a son, but Director Zhang and Aunt Yun obviously treated him as their own biological son.
Director Zhang was only the program departnt director of the public channel, so his influence was only so big.
Wanting to create an opportunity for Chen Ran to compete for a satellite TV program was not a simple matter; it required putting aside his pride to beg people, and he would also end up owing quite a few favors.
He was a person who cared quite a bit about face, yet for Chen Ran, he was willing to do this.
Chen Ran felt a bit sour and bitter in his heart, but he didn't show it. Instead, he smiled slightly and said,
"Uncle, this annual eting only starts tomorrow. It's not certain I won't win the award, no need to think so much."
Director Zhang glanced at him and said,
"This is called preparing for a rainy day. Looking at the station's restrictions on the Best Program award, they can only treat 'Rembering Lyrics' and 'Microphone' as one program. This way, you will suffer quite a disadvantage. If you can't win the award, we have to think of other ways to get you to the satellite TV channel."
Chen Ran lowered his head:
"Actually, there's no rush, Uncle. I'm only twenty-three; I'll only turn twenty-four after the new year begins. I've been in the TV station for less than a year, already transferred from the public channel to the entertainnt channel, and produced two programs. So of the newcors who entered the TV station with are still working as assistants. Compared to them, I'm already doing much better."
"Are you becoming complacent?" Director Zhang asked.
Chen Ran shook his head, "I'm still far from it."
"That's right. You are different from them. What they lack is accumulation; what you lack is opportunity." Director Zhang habitually raised his fingers, wanting to smoke, but hesitated and gave up, continuing,
"I know what you're thinking. Don't look at how your Uncle is just a director, I know quite a few people too. Besides, your track record is so good; wanting to find an opportunity isn't as hard as you think."
Director Zhang looked at Chen Ran and said, "You have this ability, it shouldn't be wasted."
Chen Ran was slightly silent. He didn't know if what Uncle Zhang said was true or false, but it was absolutely not as easy as he made it sound.
He definitely wanted to go to the satellite TV channel, but he didn't want to put Uncle Zhang in a difficult position.
Chen Ran finally looked earnestly at Director Zhang and said, "Uncle, I'll make so preparations first, but for everything else, let's wait and see after the annual eting tomorrow."
Seeing his serious expression, Director Zhang pondered for a mont and also nodded:
"Alright, we'll wait for the results of the annual eting tomorrow."
The programs were to be prepared after the New Year, so there was no rush at this very mont.
He brought it up tonight just to let Chen Ran be ntally prepared.
After dinner that night, Zhang Fanzhi, learning that Chen Ran was at their house, initiated a video call invitation.
She was fully dressed up, and the makeup on her face was exceptionally exquisite; she must have just finished participating in an event.
She chatted with her mom and dad for a few sentences, and then spent the rest of the ti chatting with Chen Ran.
Seeing her looking sowhat exhausted, Chen Ran couldn't help but say, "If you're too tired, then rest for a few days."
Zhang Fanzhi shook her head and said, "It'll be fine after these few days. It won't be this busy during the New Year."
The Jingcheng Spring Festival Gala wasn't live; it was already recorded. Right now, what she was taking on were all comrcial performances.
Seeing that she could make money, Starry Sky had also begun to put effort into promoting her.
It was just that Zhang Fanzhi's new album was still under discussion, and it was estimated that there wouldn't be a result until after the New Year. Zhang Fanzhi didn't want to drop the ball at this crucial mont.
Chen Ran wasn't clear about all this, so he could only say, "Don't be too tired, your health is important."
Zhang Fanzhi nodded. Just as she was about to speak, click, the door opened.
"Xiyun, we're rushing to Shen City tonight to participate in an event tomorrow morning..." Tao Lin walked over, pausing mid-sentence.
Seeing Chen Ran on Zhang Fanzhi's phone, the corners of her mouth twitched, and she said, "You're on a call?"
Zhang Fanzhi nodded unhurriedly: "Mhm, video calling my mom and dad. Haven't seen them for a few days."
Only then did Tao Lin see Chen Ran's background; it was at Zhang Fanzhi's house.
"It's fine, you chat with Uncle and Auntie first, we'll talk business later," Tao Lin said, preparing to leave.
Zhang Fanzhi said, "No need, we've finished chatting."
Then, after saying a couple more words to Chen Ran and the others, she hung up the video call.
Director Zhang and his wife watched Chen Ran put away his phone and exchanged a glance.
Aunt Yun sighed and said, "Zhizhi is way too busy. Let alone coming ho, she doesn't even have ti to make a video call."
Chen Ran smiled and said, "Right now, work is what's important."
Director Zhang wanted to say sothing, but ultimately didn't open his mouth.
He knew his daughter had a deep persistence when it ca to singing, and wanting to make her give up this path definitely wouldn't work.
He and his wife shared the sa thought: wait until the New Year to find a way to persuade her, so she could appropriately compromise.
Singing was fine, but she couldn't run around everywhere all day long like this.
Chen Ran had a good temper and knew how to take care of other people's feelings, but everyone has a limit to their endurance.
Not seeing each other all day long like this, no matter how deep their feelings were, problems would arise.
Their family had quite a bit of savings and didn't lack the money Zhang Fanzhi went out to earn; there was no need to be busy to this extent.
Chen Ran didn't know what Director Zhang and his wife were thinking; actually, he had quite a few thoughts of his own.
Today, Chen Ran didn't go back, but instead stayed the night at the Zhang family ho.
Lying in bed, he couldn't fall asleep no matter what; his mind was a bit of a ss.
So thoughts were about Director Zhang, and so were about Zhang Fanzhi.
He felt gratitude toward Uncle Zhang, and also guilt.
As for Zhang Fanzhi, it was a bit complicated.
……
The next day, he only woke up when he heard the alarm clock ringing.
Perhaps because he had things on his mind, he didn't sleep too well last night, and in the morning he felt a bit groggy.
Only after finishing washing up did he feel slightly more awake.
Aunt Yun made breakfast. After Director Zhang and Chen Ran ate, they drove to the TV station.
It wasn't until noon that they began to enter the broadcast studio one after another.
Chen Ran was with Lin Fan. Sitting in the entertainnt channel's section, he smiled and said,
"This is my first ti sitting here watching a program as an audience mber; it's quite novel."
Lin Fan originally wanted to laugh at him, but then he thought about how the reason Chen Ran felt this way was because he had only entered the TV station this year, and this was his first ti participating in the annual eting.
Although Chen Ran had been at the TV station for a short ti and could be considered a newcor, his achievents were not new at all; at the very least, Lin Fan couldn't compare to him in the slightest.
Thinking of this, he couldn't laugh anymore.
The two sat there chatting. After a short while, Chen Ran felt soone looking at him. Turning around, he saw two n around forty years old over on the satellite TV channel's side.
One had a full beard and wore black-frad glasses, while the other had a thin face and looked sowhat refined and gentle.
"These two are the people competing with you for Best Planner," Lin Fan explained to Chen Ran.
Hearing this, Chen Ran smiled at the two over there. Those two were also slightly taken aback, then nodded at Chen Ran in greeting.
Chen Ran asked in a low voice, "How do you know them?"
Lin Fan said in exasperation, "If you worked at the TV station for a few years, you'd be familiar with them too."
Chen Ran asked curiously again, "I haven't t them before, how do they know ?"
Lin Fan shot Chen Ran a glance and said sourly, "Probably because of your good looks."
Chen Ran imdiately understood.
When they looked over at the entertainnt channel's side, taking a glance at the bunch of people from the program departnt and spotting the most handso one, it was definitely Chen Ran without a doubt.
