Chapter 161

Robert’s Point of View

The ti had co to settle things with "The Don." I pulled out my phone with a chanical motion and hit dial; it rang once before Carlos’s voice ca through: "Yes, Robert."

"Are you ready?" I asked, my eyes monitoring the road with stillness.

"I am," he replied with a strange tone, a hint of excitent I wasn’t used to hearing from him.

"Fine, I’m coming," I said curtly.

I left the club and drove toward Carlos’s house. Upon arrival, I found him standing at the door waiting for , glancing left and right as if the ground couldn’t hold him. I pulled up abruptly in front of him. "I see you’re very eager, waiting outside!" I said mockingly as he got in beside .

He adjusted his seat, a mysterious smile playing on his face. "I trust sothing that will bring luck tonight."

I took off at high speed, expertly weaving through traffic. "Mmm... and what is it?" I asked curiously.

"It’s a secret," he replied, looking out the window.

I laughed at him internally. If only he knew that I, too, had a special "lucky charm"... Julie’s kiss, still stinging my lips. I suspected it would be the very thing to give strength and focus today.

We finally reached a skyscraper that pierced the clouds with a cold indifference. I parked in the designated spot and pulled out my phone for one last call; Ron was on the other end.

"Ron, is everything ready?" I asked in a low, firm voice.

"Yes, sir," he answered with military loyalty. "Everyone is in position... we’re waiting for your signal."

"In five minutes, Ron, start the mission," I said, watching the building entrance.

"Understood."

I turned to Carlos; his fists were clenched, his features hard. "Are you ready?" I asked.

"Let’s go," he replied decisively.

We stepped out of the car and entered the luxurious building. We hadn’t taken more than a few steps before a massive guard blocked our path, asking in an unfriendly tone, "Who are you? What do you want?"

"Tell the Don we’ve co to see him," I said with a cold confidence that made him take a step back.

"Do you have an appointnt?" he asked suspiciously.

I looked him directly in the eye and spoke the coded words known only to n of the shadows: "Tell him that ’The Sword’ has arrived."

His expression changed instantly. He vanished behind a radio for a minute then returned quickly, clearing the way for us. "This way... please."

We took the elevator, which ascended silently and swiftly. Finally, the doors opened to a vast, sprawling office; the space was surrounded by giant glass windows on all sides, making you feel as though you were standing in the heart of the sky, looking down on the world.

The office was a miniature museum, filled with antiques and ancient artifacts that reeked of extre wealth. And behind that imposing desk sat "The Don," watching us with a chilling calm.

His features had changed since I was young; his black hair was now streaked with silver, as was his beard, which gave his face a harsher gravity.

He looked at with grey eyes that resembled the color of lead. "Welco, Sword... finally," he said in a deep voice.

I walked toward the desk with confident strides and sat in the chair with total coldness. "Greetings, Don," I said.

Carlos sat in the chair opposite , watching the situation with cautious silence.

"Did you co with company? Are you afraid?" the Don asked, leaning forward slightly.

I adjusted my posture and looked him in the eye. "You know well that I am not afraid. This is my partner, and you have sothing that belongs to us."

He smiled slyly, revealing the wrinkles on his face. "Sothing that belongs to you? Like what?"

"You know what it is," I said stoically. "No need for acting."

"Since we aren’t acting... did you co to recover the shipnt?" he replied, leaning back.

"Exactly," I said curtly.

"Unfortunately..." he said mockingly, "you will both return empty-handed."

Carlos intervened then, his eyes gleaming with defiance. "We’ll see about that, Don."

The Don turned to him. "Carlos ndoza... your reputation precedes you from xico to here."

Carlos gave a lopsided smile. "I didn’t know the Don was a thief."

The Don laughed loudly, his voice echoing in the plush office. "I didn’t steal. I just wanted to say hello."

"I understood that," I snapped back.

"And I’ve co to return the greeting."

He stared at in silence for a long ti. "You’ve grown up, Robert. You’re no longer the frightened little boy."

"And you’ve grown old, Morgan," I said, eyeing him coldly. "You’re no longer the young man; you’ve beco an old one."

His tone shifted back to cunning. "How is your paralyzed father? Has he gotten used to the fact that he’ll never walk again?"

"I think he has," I said, tightening my grip under the table.

"Mmm... that’s a pity," he said with fake sorrow. "I thought that bullet would kill him, but it didn’t."

"One can never predict the outco of bullets, Don," I replied coldly.

"Indeed," he said seriously.

"So..." I said. "You’ve finally declared war."

He shook his head with a mock solemnity. "The war has been ongoing since ancient tis; I was just waiting for you to beco a man."

"I will be ready to fight you," I said.

"We will fight you, Don," Carlos added decisively.

"This is fun," the Don said, interlacing his fingers. "We’re going to have a lot of fun together, I’m sure."

"Of course we will," I said.

Suddenly, he asked curiously, "Do you still own that underground club?"

"You know very well I still own it," I replied stoically.

"Perhaps I’ll visit one day... do you have a woman who might interest ?"

My body stiffened for a second as I thought of Julie, but I replied coldly, "I don’t think I have."

"That’s a pity," he said.

At that mont, my phone vibrated in my pocket. I pulled it out slowly and read a ssage from Ron: "Mission accomplished successfully."

I put the phone back and looked at the Don with a triumphant smile. "You know exactly why I ca, Don."

"To recover the shipnt," he said confidently.

"I’ve already recovered it," I said, rising from my seat.

The Don’s expression shifted instantly, his sly smile vanishing to be replaced by visible shock. "What?!" he gasped.
