Chapter 291:

Julie’s POV

The violent, savage labor pains exploded within the depths of my entrails all at once, and without the slightest warning. I felt as though dozens of sharp, honed knives were being brutally plunged into the deepest point of my swollen belly, ripping my insides apart piece by piece. Steve’s features instantly contorted, overtaken by a genuine terror. He took a swift step back, clutching his head with both hands, his face turning deathly pale as he cried out in panic and dread: "My God, Julie! What should I do now?! Please tell !"

I pressed down with both of my trembling palms with all my might against my massive belly, my entire body bending forward in a desperate attempt to alleviate the crushing weight, as I dragged my breath with extre difficulty and tightness: "Give ... give the black abaya right now... and grab the large bag I prepared beforehand. It’s sitting in the corner of the room inside!"

Steve lunged toward , gripping my arm firmly and supporting with extre gentleness to redirect my heavy fra onto the sofa, his massive body visibly shaking: "Sit here and don’t move, I’ll fetch them for you lightning fast." He ran with a racing pulse toward the room, while I remained alone in the living room, digging my nails hard into the coarse fabric of the sofa. I was desperately trying to regulate my rapid, shattered breathing, whispering to myself in a muffled, weeping plea: Julie, hold it together... forget this fucking pain... don’t focus on the details of the agony. You’ve lived through worse. But the horrific cramp was so sharp and cruel that it surpassed my threshold of endurance, forcing to shut my eyes violently, as hot, salty, unbidden tears leaked from between my eyelids to wash over my pale cheeks.

Steve rushed out of the room, and with clumsy, inexperienced fingers, he helped into the long black abaya. Then, he secured the fabric niqab over my face with supre care, covering my entire head. Nothing remained visible or exposed of except my wide eyes, swimming with fear and anxiety. He braced with all the muscular strength he possessed to lift my body, which had beco incredibly heavy. Then, he turned with firmness and strict authority toward Olivia, who was standing in the corner of the hallway, watching the details of my labor in stunned silence.

He said in a commanding, powerful tone: "You have a car downstairs... move right now, and take us to the hospital!"

I flared up in a fierce, absolute refusal despite my body being drowned in agony, clawing my weak fingers tightly into his cotton shirt: "No, Steve! I will never go with her... I won’t get into her car!"

Steve pressed his warm palm against my shoulder, looking into my eyes with a pleading, tearful tone: "Julie, please, think of your health and the life of your child right now... we have no ti for stubbornness!"

I swallowed my bitter lump and silenced myself against my will. My throat went completely dry and my limbs stiffened, accepting deep down that I was going with her forced and coerced under the weight of a pain that had beco horrific and unbearable. We exited the building with stumbling, slow steps, and I climbed with great difficulty into the backseat of the car. Steve sat right beside , supporting my aching back with his hands.

anwhile, Olivia leaped with a rapid motion into the driver’s seat, shoved the key into the ignition, and sped off, driving through the streets in a suspicious, terrifying silence. Never in my life did I expect her to accept helping and taking to the hospital without handing over to Robert. During all of this, the storm inside my womb intensified, and the consecutive contractions were coming ruthlessly every two minutes. Steve held my cold, sweat-slicked hand, whispering in genuine panic, trying to reassure : "Calm down, Julie... breathe slowly. Inhale, exhale."

I bit down hard on my lower lip beneath the fabric of the black niqab, saying in a fractured, weak voice: "I... I am calm... I am trying... Ahhh!" And I couldn’t suppress the booming scream that tore from my throat against my will from the latest wave of crushing pain.

We finally arrived at the threshold of the massive hospital, the car coming to a violent halt that made the tires screech. Steve threw the door open and rushed out, then lifted into his broad arms and seated on a steel wheelchair that an intake worker had brought over. He ran with rapidly through the long corridors toward the interior, while Olivia remained stationary in her car, never following us inside. Doctors and nurses rushed over, surrounding the wheelchair with urgency and concern. With a breathless, frantic voice, Steve gave them my fake surna for protection my mother’s maiden na so that no one could track us down.

They wheeled with lightning speed into the examination and delivery room, the agony multiplying in my lower belly and back in a terrifying, breathtaking manner. The doctor lifted my gown and carefully examined the position of the fetus from below, but she quickly retracted her hand, letting out a helpless sigh as she said: "The cervix is still largely closed; it has only dilated by two fingers. We cannot perform a physiological delivery right now, we have to wait a little."

I gripped the edge of the cold iron bed with both hands, my body writhing left and right: "Doctor, please do sothing... I am dying from the pain!"

The doctor replied, patting my leg in a clinical, calm manner: "Unfortunately, we cannot alleviate this pain right now with any painkillers. This pain specifically is the force that opens the cervix and pushes your child out... you must have patience and endure."

I asked her, panting heavily as thick sweat drenched my forehead beneath the fabric of the thick hijab: "How... how long do we have to wait?"

She answered dryly: "We will wait a few hours and monitor the situation. If the cervix doesn’t open naturally, we will have to perform an imdiate surgical C-section."

My heart instantly clenched, and the expression in my eyes shifted to sheer terror, dreading the surgery and the scalpel. But the doctor noticed my panic and said reassuringly in a gentler tone: "Don’t be afraid, dear. We won’t resort to a surgical solution until we have given your body every possible chance for a natural birth."

I said, the pitch of my fear sharpening: "But... my water broke completely back at the apartnt. Can my baby survive inside without water?"

She nodded with certainty: "Yes, don’t worry. We checked his heartbeat a mont ago and he is perfectly fine. The pain will intensify now. I will leave you for the ti being to check on the other cases and will inspect you thoroughly every half hour."

The doctor exited the room, and in that critical mont, Steve was permitted to enter. He approached with anxious steps, and I explained to him what the doctor had said with imnse difficulty and stuttering, for the pain was clawing and twisting my insides, rendering entirely incapable of even forming letters and words out of my mouth. He grabbed my trembling hand and kissed it, his eyes glistening with tears and anxiety: "Alright, Julie, calm down... I am with you and I won’t leave you. Don’t worry at all."

Four full, long hours passed, weighed down by the crushing agony as I writhed across the white mattress, the doctor coming to check on every hour with no notable change in the cervix. I turned my deathly pale face toward my brother, saying in a withered voice that was barely audible: "Steve... please... get so water... I feel so dry."

He rose from his chair quickly and called out: "Alright, I’ll go right now." A minute later, Steve returned and poured a little cold water into my mouth. In that exact mont, the pain multiplied in a frantic, horrific, and shattering way, as if my internal organs were being hacked by swords. My back arched completely off the bed, lifting into the air, and I began to scream at the top of my lungs a hysterical, frightening scream that filled the room and the outer corridor. Steve was shocked, his face turning completely pale as a wall, standing paralyzed and helpless, not knowing what to do or offer to calm my terror and screams.

The doctor ca rushing in with wide steps at the sound of my loud screaming, lifting the cotton sheet to examine once more with haste and intent. Then, her eyes suddenly widened in astonishnt, and she said to the nurses in a sharp tone: "The cervix has suddenly dilated to a full six fingers, and it is capable of rapid expansion now... prepare the tools, we are delivering the baby right now!"

I tightened my grip, digging my nails into Steve’s hand, looking at him with tearful, pleading eyes: "Please, Steve... don’t leave ... stay inside with !"

But the doctor stepped forward, gently pushing Steve backward, saying in a stern, unyielding voice: "That is not allowed, sir. He must go out to the exterior waiting room imdiately, that is the rule of the room."

Steve cast one final look at , filled with fear and pity, saying as he slowly backed away: "Don’t worry, Julie. I’ll be standing right outside the door, I am right behind you."

Steve exited, closing the wooden door behind him, leaving alone amidst the nurses who surrounded the bed from every side like a beehive. The doctor began to command and direct in a sharp, strict tone: "Please, ma’am, do not scream and waste your energy! Just breathe deeply!" But the command was impossible, beyond human capacity; the agony was tearing my body to shreds, and I found myself screaming with the full force of my voice and strength with every new contraction that pushed my child. The doctor yelled again as she prepped the dical scissors and tools: "Please, breathe and push downward so the child can erge safely without suffocating!"

I began to drag my breath with extre difficulty, the pain multiplying and twisting inside like a blazing fire, until the doctor suddenly called out with eagerness and joy: "I see the baby’s head now! Co on, Julie, keep pushing with all your strength!"

I gathered whatever remaining vital forces were left in my exhausted body, pressing with all my weight downward as I delivered push after push. The doctor said, encouraging and motivating : "More... push more, co on!"

I pushed again with all my soul and being, sweat pouring profusely from my forehead, running like rain over my face and eyes. I was gripping the side iron rails of the dical bed with a blind, raw force until my knuckles turned completely white and tensed. I whispered with a collapsed body and blue lips: "I... I feel so dizzy... I can’t keep going, I am going to die."

The doctor shouted loudly and harshly to jolt my consciousness: "Don’t give up now, co on! Give one final push with everything you fucking have!"

In the mont I gathered my scattered self and pushed with the last shred of life and breath I possessed, letting out a monuntal, echoing scream that vibrated into every corner of the room, the doctor called out in relief: "The baby is completely out!"

In that exact second, my breathing cut out entirely, becoming heavy and rapid, and my body relaxed completely over the mattress like a discarded, tattered rag. I saw through a heavily blurred and hazy vision one of the nurses rushing toward , placing the plastic oxygen mask over my mouth and nose to salvage .

Before I could hear the sound of my awaited baby’s crying or screaming, the vision in my eyes went completely dark, and I blacked out, falling into an absolute darkness.
