Chapter 965: Chapter 937 The Limit of the Contract
Yu Family, Enchanted World.
Inside a secret chamber, Yu Manfang was sitting cross-legged on the ground, his face grim, his aura terribly unstable, clearly having suffered severe injuries.
A thin red line could still be seen on his left hand.
That hand was the one severed by the Netherworld.
Although he had managed to reattach it, it was obvious that the hand was practically useless for the ti being.
At this mont, even lifting a cup with that hand proved to be an imnse struggle, let alone using it in combat.
“Damn it! Damn it!! Damn Li Chen, damn Bai Haoyue, damn the Li Family!!” Yu Manfang’s roar reverberated throughout the secret chamber.
But his outburst triggered a shockwave within his body, causing him to cough up another mouthful of blood, staining the floor before him.
Judging by the surrounding scene, it was evident that he had already coughed up quite a bit of blood earlier; the coagulated blood on the ground ford a layer of glaring crimson.
In Yu Manfang’s view, as an Earth-level Expert, he was leagues ahead of the average martial artist at the Earth level.
Soone like Li Chen—a re Profound-level insect—should have obediently submitted, allowing himself to be slaughtered.
Yet, it was precisely this kind of lowly insect that repeatedly defied him, resisted him, and even injured him.
To Yu Manfang, such acts were utterly unforgivable.
Moreover, what frustrated him even more was his failure to kill Li Chen after nurous attempts.
A tiny Profound-level being had managed to escape his grasp multiple tis, driving the hate-consud and enraged Yu Manfang nearly insane.
“Master.”
At that mont, a voice suddenly spoke outside the secret chamber.
The voice pulled Yu Manfang back from his hatred-filled thoughts.
The speaker was the old steward, his trusted confidant, soone he could rely on completely.
“What is it?”
The old steward, sensing Yu Manfang’s foul mood, quickened his pace and responded, “There’s a guest outside. They’re requesting to see you, Master.”
“A guest? Who is it?” Yu Manfang’s brow furrowed slightly as he imdiately asked.
“It seems… they’re from the Holy Mountain,” the old steward hesitated for a mont before speaking.
“Holy Mountain?” Upon hearing the na, Yu Manfang seed to snap awake, urgently replying, “What’s soone from the Holy Mountain doing at my Yu Family? And who exactly is it?”
As he spoke, Yu Manfang strode toward the secret chamber’s door, flinging it open in one swift motion.
“Master.” The old steward wasn’t surprised at Yu Manfang’s sudden reaction; his own astonishnt at hearing of the Holy Mountain’s arrival had mirrored Yu Manfang’s earlier.
To the mighty Holy Mountain, Yu Family was rely a minor clan. Even with Yu Manfang’s recent advancent to Earth-level Expert, the family lacked significant influence in broader terms.
The Holy Mountain, on the other hand, was an overwhelming force.
Not only because of their formidable elders but also due to their sect master, who had been in closed-door cultivation for twenty years!
The sect master’s reputation stemd from having once battled a monstrous opponent!
“Master, the visitor appears to be a newly-appointed elder from the Holy Mountain, accompanied by so disciples. They said they wish to discuss forming an alliance with you,” the old steward speculated before continuing.
“An alliance?” Suspicion flickered across Yu Manfang’s face as he muttered, “An alliance for what? Did they say?”
“They didn’t specify,” the old steward replied, “But they did ntion that you would definitely agree to this alliance.”
Upon hearing this, Yu Manfang silently contemplated for a mont, then nodded slowly, a sinister smile creeping onto his face. “I think I know why they’ve co to for this alliance.”
…
Li Chen sat at the wheel, waiting at a red light, his eyes sweeping his surroundings, his brows knitting slightly.
That was because Li Chen had noticed an unusual number of martial artists on the streets.
Though these martial artists looked no different from ordinary people, Li Chen’s perception allowed him to discern their true identities effortlessly.
However, what reassured Li Chen sowhat was that these martial artists didn’t display the sa fanaticism as those in Mong Kok Forest, appearing rather calm and ordinary. Still, Li Chen was perplexed as to why they had all appeared in the external world at this mont.
Li Chen pulled out his phone, dialing a number.
“Finally thought to call , huh?” A voice, tinged with hidden laughter, ca through the receiver as soon as the call connected.
“Co now, Elder Ji, if I’m not mistaken, we’re allies, right? Could you show a bit more sincerity?” Li Chen retorted with a sarcastic edge.
“What’s the matter? This old man is plenty sincere!” Elder Ji chuckled before continuing, “By the way, thanks again for last ti. Helping out Chang Feng caused you quite a bit of trouble.”
“That’s all in the past—let’s not get into it.” Li Chen cut off Elder Ji’s gratitude decisively. Such pleasantries might flatter others, but they ant little to Li Chen.
“Chang Feng seems like a decent kid; helping him wasn’t solely because of you. Otherwise, I’d have long washed my hands of it,” Li Chen replied bluntly.
“Alright, alright. I get it.” Elder Ji shook his head, sowhat exasperated.
Even Elder Ji, at tis, found himself unsure of how to handle Li Chen’s unyielding nature.
“I called because I want to ask about sothing—it’s starting to feel strange lately. Why are martial artists all over the streets?” Li Chen muttered. “If this were two years ago, I’d probably have gotten myself killed the mont I stepped out.”
Upon hearing this, Elder Ji fell silent briefly before letting out a long sigh.
“To tell you the truth, Dragon Soul has been overwheld recently precisely because of this matter,” Elder Ji admitted dejectedly. “You think I like this situation, where martial artists are everywhere? It’s a nightmare to manage!”
“Then what’s going on?” Li Chen frowned in disbelief.
“Do you know about the contracts?” Elder Ji asked.
“I’ve heard bits and pieces, but not clearly,” Li Chen nodded in response.
After a mont’s hesitation, Elder Ji decided to elaborate. “Fine, since we’re allies, I’ll tell you outright.”
“There’s roughly two months left before the contract expires.”
“What?!” Li Chen’s face showed visible shock upon hearing this revelation.
“You heard right. Around two months. The contract that has been restraining martial artists at Black Rope level and above will lose its effect.” Seeing Li Chen’s stunned expression, Elder Ji repeated the information firmly.
“Damn it!” Li Chen burst out in a rare curse.
