In the shroud of nightfall, Ronald and Claudia walked together on the scarcely populated streets of Spring City.
Just as she had said earlier, Claudia hoped to clean up her body and clothing. Returning ho in her current state would certainly spell disaster for her.
Therefore, Ronald’s residence had beco their mutual destination.
Dwelling late into the night, the streets were almost entirely devoid of people, with only the occasional night patrol tasked with city security in sight.
To such ordinary people, as long as they detoured around areas not well lit by streetlights, Ronald and Claudia could easily bypass them.
After a considerable walk, they finally returned to the riverbank district at a rather late hour.
Gazing at the streets at night,
Ronald felt a montary sense of strangeness.
Having moved from Greenwich to a new ho, even though he had lived in Greenwich for only a few months, he couldn’t avoid feeling a sense of disparity.
Shaking his head lightly, Ronald led the way to the apartnt gate.
The streetlamp was close by, illuminating the area as Ronald aid easily for the lock, then pulled out his keys and opened the gate as quietly as possible.
Unlike the outside streets,
the apartnt’s inner courtyard was tinged with a layer of dark shadows under the night sky, yet it wasn’t completely obscured from view, presenting a kind of distinct beauty.
Seeing such an apartnt for the first ti, Ronald paused before calling Claudia towards the stairs and casually asked the girl behind him:
"Isa, after all the commotion we caused tonight, why hasn’t the investigation bureau from Spring City sent anyone over?"
"..."
Hearing Ronald’s question, Claudia bowed her head with a sowhat embarrassed look on her face.
However, she didn’t hesitate for long and quickly caught up with Ronald, replying with a candid tone:
"About that, it’s partly my fault."
"For large-scale spellcasting phenona within Spring City, as well as the unfolding of certain special rituals, the investigation bureau has an extrely thorough surveillance network, which is also built in conjunction with the Church, making errors barely possible."
"Under such circumstances, the bureau would definitely dispatch soone to handle the situation on site."
"It’s just unfortunate that tonight I was..."
Ronald instantly understood everything.
What Claudia ant was that since she had actively joined the fight and cast spells herself, the investigation bureau’s monitoring system detected the Britannica Encyclopedia’s spell at the execution ground and with no feedback in a short period, they would have assud a high-level investigator was working there.
No wonder no one intervened in their fight tonight.
As Ronald grasped the underlying reasons, Claudia’s eyes sharpened.
She realized the man before her indeed knew little about Spring City and perhaps she could take the opportunity to enlighten Ronald.
Therefore, Claudia imdiately continued with her own explanation:
"Ronald, let give you a brief rundown."
"After all, it’s a city with a population of over a million, so smaller-scale individual spellcasting activities are permitted within Spring City, provided they go undetected by the general populace."
"Of course, exceptions are made if it involves loss of life."
"If it relates to serious personal harm, the investigation bureau will still deal with the corresponding cases."
Listening to Claudia’s explanation, Ronald walked up the stairs with muffled footsteps and softly asked:
"Aside from these, is there anything else we need to be cautious of?"
Claudia imdiately responded:
"Curfew, the last thing to be mindful of is the curfew."
"Since the night is a natural shield for the mystic side’s spellcasting, the managent at night is much stricter than during the day, from ten o’clock at night to eight in the morning. It’s best not to engage in any spellcasting during this ti."
"If a night patrol investigator finds it suspicious, they will co knocking for a thorough investigation imdiately."
"Unless..."
"Unless it’s like tonight..."
While he explained to Ronald.
Claudia also followed him up the stairs.
When they reached Ronald’s room on the third floor, she looked around curiously for a mont before asking,
"Ronald, your place is so small, do you have a place to take a bath?"
Ronald nodded subtly, then replied,
"Of course, it’s right inside the room."
The hard reality of the apartnt rent was there.
So necessary facilities naturally were included.
Like in Ronald’s room, opposite the bed, in a corner, there was a private washroom belonging to him, which also had a relatively modern shower installed.
Of course, to Ronald, this thing still seed pretty historic.
To take a hot shower with it, the owner had to fill the water tank above his head and then heat it up with the water heater before bathing. The water tank’s outlet was just a simple, straight-down tap.
Following Ronald’s lead, Claudia examined the environnt and also stepped into the washroom to see everything for herself.
Facing such a simple bathing facility,
The girl frowned slightly in dissatisfaction.
But Claudia also understood that she wasn’t at ho, nor was she visiting soone else’s place, so naturally, she couldn’t make a comparison.
Fumbling to open the water tank and start the water, she then turned back to Ronald and tilted her head slightly, saying,
"So, should I start bathing now?"
"..."
With a very polite smile for Claudia, Ronald imdiately backed away two steps from the washroom door.
Hearing the sound of the washroom door snapping shut,
Ronald went to the bed and sat down.
He didn’t plan to ask how Claudia would deal with her clothing.
With the spellcasting abilities she had shown, cleaning a few pieces of clothing shouldn’t be a problem.
"Hmm?"
At that mont, Ronald turned to look at his balcony.
His room had an open balcony, which aside from the plants probably left by the previous tenant, also faced the eastern sky.
And right now, Ronald witnessed the distant sky starting to tint blue.
After so much ti had passed, Spring City was about to welco another morning.
After battling all of last night...
He indeed felt a bit hungry.
Making up his mind, Ronald imdiately stood up from the bed.
While Claudia hadn’t yet finished with the water in the tank, he spoke through the door, asking,
"Isa, I’m thinking of going out to buy so breakfast."
"Do you want to bring you sothing too?"
"..."
The air was silent for a few seconds.
Then the girl’s sowhat cheerful voice quickly ca from the washroom:
"Just a normal breakfast will be fine!"
