"There’s been no news at all..."
The lie detector’s spell was still effective, and the probing power of "Fury" was also quite explicit.
The broker facing Ronald had indeed not lied.
This was all the information their assassination organization possessed.
After pondering for a few seconds, Ronald continued to speak:
"How do you usually receive such commissions?"
"And how is the client’s money paid?"
Without hesitation, the broker began to answer:
"These special kinds of commissions are just dropped into a mailbox on the upper floors of the building. However, due to the unique nature of these tasks, clients usually pay all the fees in full directly."
Ronald blinked and finally, with a sowhat speechless air, dispelled the black fog that surrounded the basent.
"They really do have money..."
"Is this just to annoy , or do they really not understand the actual situation?"
Hearing Ronald’s grumbling, the broker tily responded,
"Mr. Ronald, I think the latter is more probable."
"So folks who are not very familiar with our side always end up doing things that are laughably absurd. Today’s incident was a mishap on our part; please forgive our recklessness."
Considering Ronald’s willingness to engage in dialogue,
the broker beca quite agile.
He imdiately signed a check from his counter and handed it over to Ronald.
"Ronald, this is our apology."
"..."
Taking the check, Ronald clearly saw it was signed with a very fake company na, obviously concocted by the assassin organization as a cover.
His gaze swept across the few people around him.
Ronald silently stood up and walked outside.
Passing through the discomforting black brawl arena, Ronald reached the outside of the building where he found the mailbox ntioned by the broker.
Probably to protect the client,
the mailbox was tucked away in a dark corner on the outside of the building, nearly impossible to see at night without a careful search.
"One hour... about ten minutes..."
Muttering the information he had gathered, Ronald began to deploy the investigative techniques he had at hand.
— There was no magical reaction on the mailbox.
— Extracting fingerprints or any similar technological thod was also not possible now.
Having completely blocked his avenues of information gathering, Ronald truly had no good options left...
However, during the recent period, he had confird sothing.
The first ti he attended the Countess’s ball, so hot-headed fool had taken a dislike to him.
Even thinking so outlandish thoughts.
Even Harvey from the "Gingko Leaf Business Alliance" was on the list of suspects for this assassination.
"Ah—"
"Adults’ world is so complicated..."
Shaking his head with a slumped face, Ronald sighed deeply and then proceeded towards his apartnt.
Previously, his activities were mostly limited.
He only maintained superficial contact with many people.
Being pulled into the social circle by the guild’s and Helen’s commissions, other troubleso matters from different worlds began to entangle him.
Honestly, it was quite a headache.
Just taking tonight’s events as an example, after all the back and forth delays, Ronald got ho quite late.
If he had to be at the guild for work on ti tomorrow...
He could only sleep for three or four hours at most today!
"I’ll go to work tomorrow afternoon instead."
Thinking this over and making up his mind, Ronald laid down on his bed in a foul mood and drifted off to sleep.
————
Knock, knock, knock—
The next morning, Ronald was awakened by a series of urgent knocks.
"Mr. Ronald, are you at ho?"
"..."
Lying in bed, he opened his listless eyes and turned to look towards the door.
He quietly snapped his fingers to reset the "Angel" spell defense, and only then did Ronald get up and walk toward the door.
"Is there sothing you need?"
After opening the door, there stood the apartnt’s maid in front of Ronald.
With a respectful look, the maid, who recently dared not speak to Ronald, finally spoke:
"Mr. Ronald, there is a priest downstairs."
"He said he has sothing he wants to discuss with you."
Soone from the church...
At this mont, Ronald’s thoughts were still lingering on last night’s assassination.
Suddenly having soone from the church seek him out, he was genuinely a bit bewildered for a mont.
Although he usually had little contact with them,
the church was still one of the largest organizations in this world.
With his expression gradually turning serious, Ronald also spoke to the maid:
"Please invite the priest up, thank you for your trouble."
"I will go change my clothes."
The maid imdiately turned and went downstairs while Ronald went straight to his bedroom to change his clothes.
When he, neatly dressed, returned to the living room, a priest in a black clergy robe also arrived at the door.
"Mr. Ronald, may I co in?"
"Of course, please co in."
"Would you like so tea, Priest?"
"Just water will be fine."
After the simple pleasantries, the priest walked into Ronald’s bedroom.
The two of them settled on the sofa, and Ronald also poured a cup of clear water for the other party.
"Priest, visiting my house, is there sothing important?"
...
Hearing Ronald’s question, the warm smile on the priest’s face began to turn serious.
The clergyman did not even pick up the water cup, sitting in silence for a few seconds before his tone beca sowhat distressed as he spoke:
"Mr. Ronald, the congregation from Greenwich should have made contact with you."
"Our church has always been friendly towards you."
Ronald nodded in strong agreent:
"Of course, I indeed received quite so care from the church in the past."
His possession of "Divine Cody" was complete, including factors from the church’s side, Ronald naturally would not deny this.
Then, the priest lowered his tone:
"So, about what happened last night, we hope to provide so explanations from our side."
...
"What?"
Ronald was utterly stunned.
Taking a few seconds to process the implication of the other party’s words, he then confird with so disbelief:
"If I’m not mistaken, the assassination attempt on last night..."
"Was actually related to you?"
The priest nodded in admission:
"We know, sir, that you possess formidable investigative capabilities."
"This regrettable matter cannot be hidden, you would eventually find out."
"So we thought it better for us to co and explain proactively."
...
Sipping from his cherished water cup, Ronald had never anticipated such an unexpected turn of events.
At a mont when he felt he had gained nothing and that further investigation seed hopeless, soone unexpectedly ca forward to confess!
Ordinary people did not understand the extent of the power he now wielded.
And the extraordinary ones seed to have ford a peculiar misconception regarding him.
Suppressing the subtle feelings in his heart,
Ronald then gestured to the priest:
"Please, continue."
"I am listening."
