"Nipele?"

Ronald’s first reaction was that the siren was speaking gibberish, so the ability to comprehend languages didn’t take effect.

But quickly, he realized that the siren’s gaze was fixed firmly behind him.

This creature was staring at sothing behind him.

That must have triggered the current reaction!

Through Claudia’s spell, Ronald knew clearly that all his companions were not around at the mont. If sothing was being targeted, it was most likely an enemy.

With a turn to the side to dodge, Ronald lightly snapped his fingers.

Synchronized almost perfectly with his motion, the debris from the palm tree that had shattered on the ground was manipulated by the power of the "Archangel" and shot out like bullets towards sothing behind Ronald.

Buzz—

The next second, the dense noise of exploding wood and a strange sound erupted from behind Ronald.

What followed was a woman’s dissatisfied, angry shout.

"Human, are you planning to invade our territory?"

"..."

At this mont, Ronald turned to see what had appeared behind him.

It was a being with the upper body of a beautiful human girl and the lower half resembling the tail of a fish... a rmaid?

Ronald wasn’t exactly a fan of dark fairy tales.

So when he saw a rmaid, like a daughter of the sea, appear before him, he didn’t choose to attack right away, rely adopted a defensive stance.

"This siren sang in front of , and you’re saying I can’t take action?"

Ronald’s question was a double probe.

Besides gauging the attitude of the ’rmaid’ before him, he also deliberately ntioned the siren’s species, to confirm the true identity of these non-human creatures. With the "Divine Cody’s" ability to detect emotions rendered useless against non-humans, he had to be more discerning in conversation.

Upon hearing Ronald’s firm retort, a subtle expression indeed crossed the ’rmaid’s’ face.

"She sang..."

"In that case, Miao Sili has only herself to bla. However, human, rember this—do not think you can strike at will just because you have power. The sea has buried many a wizard, and they are not few in number."

Having knitted her brows and said her piece, the rmaid no longer paid attention to the siren who was nearly out of breath beside her, and with a flick of her tail, she ’swam’ towards the sea, indicating she had no desire to engage further.

Able to communicate and evidently not completely hostile.

Facing such an ’inford’ individual, Ronald had no intention of just letting her go away.

As the rmaid’s tail touched the water, Ronald quickly spoke up:

"Wait, do you know the current situation of the Kraken? It attacked our ship earlier, and many of my companions have gone missing!"

"..."

As he expected, the rmaid stopped.

The question Ronald posed made her choose to turn around and address the issue.

"The Kraken’s ergence is as unpredictable as submarine currents and other natural disasters. What good is asking ? You should be satisfied that you’re alive after encountering it."

"..."

If it weren’t for that ace investigator ssing up.

Maybe at this ti, the creatures in the nearby waters would have been feasting on electric-grilled octopus.

Ronald silently complained in his heart, not forgetting to steer the conversation back to the main point.

"What about this typhoon then?"

"Is the appearance of the Kraken related to this typhoon?"

In the span of two exchanges, Ronald roughly grasped the rmaid’s patterns of behavior.

Since he could answer his own questions in such a manner, the continued conversation seed unlikely to irritate the other party.

"Human, you sure have a lot of questions," the rmaid frowned upon hearing another question. However, as Ronald had anticipated, she didn’t leave. Instead, she continued to speak, albeit with a complaint, "I know what you’re thinking, but this typhoon has nothing to do with , so don’t get your hopes up."

...

The typhoon had nothing to do with her...

Her words revealed a key point; she possessed more information about this abnormal typhoon than Ronald and his colleagues, who were still in the exploratory phase.

Ronald quickly asked through the Communication Magic constructed by Claudia:

"Ladies and gentlen, have you ever heard of a creature with the upper body of a human and the lower body of a fish?"

"I’ve never heard of such a thing."

"There’s no ntion of such a creature in the records of our school."

"Part human, part bird, and now half-human, half-fish... I heard so school to the east of Gried was experinting with creature synthesis; could it be that this incident is their doing?"

...

Listening to the discussion on the communication, Ronald also confird the situation.

"Everyone, what I’ve encountered here could be a summoned creature, or sothing that has manifested due to interference from the original text. The situation is still under control; continue with your work, and I’ll keep you updated if there’s any news."

"Ronald, please take care—"

After ending the communication through the Communication Magic, Ronald straightened his collar, preparing to negotiate with the rmaid before him in a very serious manner.

Before he could speak, the rmaid standing by the seaside spoke first:

"Human, are you suggesting you plan to stop this typhoon?"

...

"That is precisely what I wish."

After a brief exchange, Ronald and the rmaid fell into a delicate silence.

The wind and rain brought by the typhoon swirled between them.

On one side was Ronald, protected by the original text and standing within an absolutely safe area; on the other was the rmaid, at the edge of the coastline, with waves occasionally lapping over her tail, as if she might disappear into the sea at any mont.

The silence sustained in the storm for almost a minute.

The rmaid seed to confirm sothing with her gaze, then sighed as if resignedly.

"Alright... honestly, I’m not too keen on staying in this completely unfamiliar environnt either, where there isn’t even the slightest trace of mana in the air. But human, I must warn you, ending this typhoon will undoubtedly be a very difficult task. I can’t guarantee that you’ll survive."

From his previous experiences, Ronald knew that the rmaid could have easily left without owing him anything.

She made this choice without any external interference.

This was probably her true request at the mont.

So, Ronald nodded affirmatively:

"Danger and difficulty are not problems; I’m quite confident in my own strength."

...

"Hmph, don’t say I didn’t warn you."

Hearing Ronald’s response, the rmaid stared at him for a long while before snorting coldly, grudgingly indicating her agreent.

Then, flicking her tail, she turned and swam back into the ocean, asking as she did so:

"Then, human, tell your na."

Ronald thought for a mont before giving an interesting alias:

"I’m Wuling. Just call Wuling."

"And how should I address you?"

...

"Hailbess."
