"Fury, what do you think Dantrian’s real intentions are?"
"It’s tough to guess... Even though we know she’s definitely not on the sa side as the Nine Commandnts, announcing that spell effects have been reduced is still too risky a move."
"Yeah, too risky..."
In mid-September, Ronald leaned on the desk in his office, eyes glued to the neatly stacked files in front of him as he chatted listlessly with Fury.
The discussion that had taken place in the underground eting room of the "Scroll Research Society" had just ended less than a week ago.
The various forces had already begun spreading the news, preparing or undertaking their responses.
But since it was still too early,
no significant impact had been made on the world so far.
As for individuals in unique situations like Ronald and Fury, they had learned so interesting things through the channels of the trade guild.
Located in the southern part of the continent, the leaders of the five world-class schools had already issued a notice to the whole world, preparing to hold an unprecedented mystical side eting on the Jie Erke Islands.
The conference planned to discuss two main topics.
—Determine the future developnt direction of the world.
—Search and punish the Nine Commandnts.
In a sense, this assembly could be regarded as a follow-up to the "Scroll Research" eting convened by Dantrian. After she announced the news, people with their own agendas were in action.
The news that Ronald broadcast that day indeed had a good effect.
Many of the participants in that previous discussion had the ability to discern truth from deception, and so of the forces they belonged to could even use Prophetic Spells with relative accuracy.
So once the news was verified, it naturally aroused their greed.
Being able to safely decipher the original texts owned by one’s own school was an irresistible temptation for spellcasters on the mystical side.
However, sitting in the office,
Ronald wasn’t thinking about these things at the mont.
In recent days, in order to find Lumiér in Springs, he had diligently searched nearly two-thirds of the city’s area. The force of "Fury," which he knew like the back of his hand, had almost beco a passive skill permanently affixed to him.
Yet even so, Ronald had still failed to find Lumiér’s emotional fluctuations in the city. For Ronald, this was one of the rare things that could bring him a sense of frustration.
During this process, Fury had been helping him process the docunts by his side.
The girl glanced at the man slumped over the desk, and the corners of her eyes couldn’t help but rise up:
"Ronald, lift your hand."
"Oh, sure..."
"Lift your left hand, not your right."
"Ah...?"
"You’re pressing down on the application form!"
"Sorry..."
Ronald let out a sheepish smile and lifted his left hand, and Fury imdiately withdrew the form and began to write on it swiftly.
While working, Fury also said:
"By the way, Ronald, have my forr boss and that deranged cultist magician contacted you recently?"
"Not at all," replied Ronald imdiately, shaking his head, "The last ti I saw them was at the eting that day, and since then it’s been complete radio silence. Of course, except for this thing..."
As he spoke, Ronald pointed at a cabinet in the office.
The ’envelope’ left by Bapulor lay there quietly inside.
If he really had to contact this cultist leader, activating the envelope could be an option. After all, exploding it would probably get so kind of reaction from Bapulor—at least he hoped so?
"Sigh..."
Seeing Ronald’s response, Fury couldn’t help but sigh.
With Bapulor’s abnormal way of thinking and knowing how dangerous her old boss could be, it would be tough for Ronald to deal with these people in the future.
Clang, clang, clang—
At that mont, a knock sounded at the office door.
Fury said, "Co in," and the staff mber from the ground floor workplace imdiately entered with a smile, placing a docunt bag on the table.
"Mr. Ronald, this is from the guild headquarters, marked specifically for your hands."
Ronald nodded his understanding:
"Thank you for bringing it up."
After exchanging simple pleasantries, the staff mber left the office to return downstairs. Fury also took a break from her work, lightly hopping up to sit on the desk and picked up the docunt bag.
While opening the envelope, the girl smiled at Ronald:
"Guess if it’s work or sothing else."
Ronald expressed his inner thoughts:
"I’d hope it’s next month’s salary paid in advance."
"..."
"Then I guess your hopes are going to be dashed."
Fury rolled her eyes at Ronald, then took out the contents of the envelope.
There were two sets of materials in the envelope, which she quickly sorted and then handed half to Ronald.
As they read the contents, their expressions began to change.
—It was news from surrounding area guilds.
[On July 16th, news ca from the Denbor branch. A person in an old maid’s attire, carrying a box and umbrella in one hand, passed through Denbor, registered as a ’direct servant of the Adler family.’]
[On August 2nd, the sa person appeared in Conr town. However, the clothes on the person’s body had not been changed, only showing signs of simple washing, and the box held in the hand was also scarred.]
[On August 29th, the Hay division also observed this individual. Considering the identity of consultant Ronald from headquarters, they compiled this information for transmission specifically. Unless situation dictates otherwise, this maid’s pace suggests she is walking across the continent, estimated to arrive at Springs around November.]
—Feedback from city informants.
[Recently, in the surrounding areas of the slums, people have witnessed a girl who can change and alter her stature and appearance, and is active in the slums. As per headquarters consultant’s request, after investigation, we are submitting this person’s information.]
[Heidi Mosley.
A month ago, she arrived in Springs, registered as a spellcaster with a family-transmitted spell, hoping to develop her abilities in Springs. She is currently cooperating with Mosang Paper Industry and is mainly active in the southern city districts.]
"..."
After silently finishing their respective docunts, Ronald and Fury exchanged them.
Once they both finished reviewing the materials,
as their gazes t again, their expressions were completely different from before.
"Ronald, does your family have such an amazing maid?"
"She’s traversed the entire boundary of Greid on foot, and judging by this pace, she’s using the strides of an ordinary person!"
Ronald had a hard ti answering this question, so he shook the paper in his hands:
"The maid’s matter isn’t urgent."
"I think this Heidi character is what we need to pay attention to."
