The night was clear, the sky a vast canvas of glittering stars and a high, solitary moon. Shisui stood atop a jagged precipice, waiting in the silence.
Slowly, an almost imperceptible mist began to envelop the village. It was the concentrated pheromones of the Foul-Scent Bugs.
The insects had pushed themselves to the absolute limit, their tiny bodies shriveling and drying up as they completed their final mission.
Shisui knew they had reached their breaking point; this was the maximum radius he could control.
"It's ti," he whispered, a faint smile touching his lips.
His hands began to move, weaving signs with a rhythmic, deliberate grace. Tiger—Snake—Tiger—Snake—Dragon—Hare—Tiger...
Thirty-three signs in total. This was his "gift" to Takigakure. He intended to plunge every civilian and every weary shinobi into a deep, illusory slumber
. It was a tactical necessity—too many eyes and ears would complicate the "cleanup" he had planned for the night.
"Genjutsu: Breath of Eternal Slumber."
An invisible ripple expanded from his core, rging with the biological pheromones in the air. The chemical catalysts amplified the Genjutsu's potency tenfold.
This hybrid technique—a fusion of insect biology and Yin Release chakra—was Shisui's own creation, far more invasive than standard illusions.
In an instant, Takigakure was hit with a "pause" button.
Villagers in their beds slipped from natural sleep into a heavy, artificial trance. A man outside to relieve himself collapsed mid-stride, snoring before he hit the grass.
Support squads rushing toward the rear mountains fell from the branches like overripe fruit. Patrols of Genin slumped one by one, their weapons clattering against the cobblestones in the only sound that dared to break the sudden stillness.
At the Toko Shrine, the atmosphere shifted.
Leader Shibuki and the elders were the first to notice. Their superior chakra reserves allowed them to resist the initial wave, but their vision blurred and their heads swam with a sudden, crushing lethargy.
"An ambush! The mastermind is making their move!" an elder gasped, leaning heavily against his staff.
"What kind of Genjutsu covers an entire village?" another hissed, horror dawning on him.
The spies were in even worse shape. Many of the weaker moles were already curled on the cavern floor. Kisuke, the Rain spy leader, felt a leaden weight pulling at his eyelids.
No matter how many tis he flared his chakra to dispel the illusion, the exhaustion returned, thicker and more suffocating than before.
Seeing the loyalist elders looking like cornered, desperate animals, Kisuke realized his plan was failing. He turned to the remaining spies from other villages.
"Listen! We're all going to die here if this continues! Forget the mission—we have to break out together!"
Outside the shrine, those who hadn't yet succumbed to the "Sleep" began a frantic exodus toward the village borders.
They believed that if they could just reach the barrier and report this terrifying wide-scale technique, they would be heroes.
They had no idea what was waiting for them in the dark.
Inside the cavern, the strongest invaders decided on a final, desperate gamble: if they couldn't steal the Seven-Tails, they would release it. A rampaging Tailed Beast would provide the perfect cover for their escape.
Shibuki saw their intent. He stepped before the altar, his eyes burning with a resolve that transcended the fog in his mind.
"This is the ho my grandfather and father gave their lives for! Every tree, every stone... I will not let you tear it down!"
With a final, solemn look, Shibuki pulled a small, ornate vial from his robes—the Hero's Water. He uncorked it and drank it in one go.
Shisui, watching through his insects, understood the psychology of the act. Shibuki didn't want to die, but by making that grand speech and drinking the water, he was trying to force the invaders to retreat through sheer intimidation
. It didn't work. The spies stayed, and Shibuki's fate was sealed.
The Hero's Water worked instantly. Shibuki's chakra exploded, surging tenfold.
His muscles bulged, and his speed beca a blur. Kisuke, mid-seal, didn't even have ti to blink before Shibuki's Gale Palm slamd him into the stone wall.
The impact was so violent that the spy's body was virtually pulverized.
Seeing their leader broken like a toy, the other spies scattered. They fled into the forest, hoping their luck would hold against the invisible puppeteer controlling the mist.
As the village leader hunted down the high-level threats, the rest of the village remained eerily silent. Even the birds were asleep.
The only movent ca from the shadows—black figures flickering through the streets.
These were Shisui's clones. Following the data gathered by his surveillance swarm, they systematically harvested the lives of every identified spy.
They appeared like ghosts, released a swarm of insects to consu the target, and vanished before the body even hit the ground.
Shisui was impartial. Whether it was a "civilian" shopkeeper who had been selling secrets or a newly minted Genin mole, he showed no rcy.
During his sweep, he found two familiar faces.
First was Natsuhi, injured and snoring loudly on the forest floor. Second was Old Man Shi. The old man lay nearby, a kunai through his chest, his eyes staring blankly at the stars.
Shisui paused, letting out a heavy sigh. He shook his head slowly before directing his insects to decompose the old man's remains, returning him to the earth.
As for Natsuhi, he had other plans for her. One of his clones slung her over its shoulder to be taken to the basent.
Suddenly, a disturbance rippled through the outer swarm barrier. Every clone stopped and looked toward the village exit simultaneously. Their lips curled into a synchronized, cold smile.
"So, soone is trying to leave," the clones whispered in unison. "What a pity. This isn't just a village anymore... It's a cage."
The clones dissolved into massive clouds of insects, spiraling into the sky and converging toward the barrier like a black storm.
