Kakuzu fell into a long silence, his eyes fixed on Shisui Abura with a complex swirl of emotions.
The strength this young man had displayed in their brief clash far exceeded his expectations. It wasn't just raw power; it was the chilling efficiency of his insect arts—information gathering, tactical positioning, feints, and the final, lethal strike.
Every move had been calculated with surgical precision.
How old is he? Twenty?
Kakuzu suddenly rembered himself at twenty. He had been a re subordinate in Takigakure, obsessed with nothing more than completing missions and surviving another day.
"What kind of monster are you?"
Shisui didn't answer directly. Instead, he looked at Kakuzu and asked, "Your strength... it's hit a bottleneck, hasn't it?"
Kakuzu stiffened. Before he could retort, Shisui continued: "In ten years, twenty, or even a hundred, your power won't change. Even if you learn more powerful Five-Elent ninjutsu, you're just adding tools to a box that's already full. You aren't actually getting stronger."
"What are you trying to say?" Kakuzu growled.
"I'm talking about the inherent flaw of the Earth Grudge Fear. Stealing hearts grants longevity, but chakra is the fusion of spirit and physical energy—an extension of a warrior's will.
Every ti you integrate a foreign heart, you introduce fragnts of a foreign will into your system. These 'residues' are the shackles binding your potential."
Kakuzu's hands froze as he reached for a scroll to replace his lost hearts. It was the first ti in decades soone had challenged the fundantal chanics of his forbidden jutsu.
He had used it for nearly a century, knowing only that it granted immortality and multiple affinities. He had never considered that those hearts carried a psychic "static" that clouded his own growth.
"Can you fix it?" Kakuzu asked, looking up.
"Not imdiately," Shisui said truthfully. "But with long-term treatnt, yes. I can use dicinal alchemy to wash away the physical impurities.
As for the spiritual residue in your chakra, the solution is more complex. Ideally, we would clone your own hearts.
By replacing foreign hearts with your own clones, your chakra would gradually beco pure—a true extension of your own singular will."
"The benefit," Shisui added, "is faster casting speeds and the ability to perform far more delicate elental manipulations that are currently impossible for you."
Kakuzu was stunned. Cloning my own hearts? The concepts were alien, yet as an "old antique" of the ninja world, he possessed enough worldly experience to grasp the underlying logic.
Shisui spent the next hour explaining the academic nuances of cellular biology and chakra resonance.
Kakuzu found himself nodding repeatedly; he didn't understand the technical details, but the theory felt sound. If it could truly be done...
"Do you know any Sealing Jutsu?" Shisui asked, shifting the topic abruptly. "If you do, write them down for . I want to see if our libraries overlap. One can never have too many seals."
Looking at Shisui's nonchalant, commanding deanor, Kakuzu suddenly laughed—a deep, booming sound he hadn't made in years.
"Fine."
He took the forehead protector Shisui had offered, gripping it firmly. Then, he dropped to one knee.
"I, Kakuzu, am willing to serve you."
Shisui nodded and turned toward the depths of the underground palace. "Follow . I'll show you sothing truly worth guarding."
Several Months Later
Deep within the palace, in a secluded stone chamber, Shisui sat cross-legged before a series of incubation vats.
After half a year of ticulous care, the insects bred using the Seven-Tails' chakra were finally beginning to hatch.
The first batch were dragonfly larvae. They were entirely transparent, with faint flickers of blue and purple light circulating within their tiny bodies.
Most were ordinary, but one stood out—it was significantly larger than its siblings, and the purple markings on its shell were vibrant. More importantly, it was drawing in natural energy on its own.
Shisui watched as it clung to the rim of the vat, slowly absorbing the ambient energy from the air. As the energy entered its body and fused with the Seven-Tails' chakra, a new substance began to form.
Senjutsu Chakra? Shisui wondered. To test his theory, he took a vial of the Hero's Water and poured it into the incubator.
The larva darted over and drank greedily, draining the vial in a single breath. Then, it began to molt. The process lasted a full week. Shisui stayed by its side, never leaving the chamber.
On the midnight of the seventh day, it finally broke through its pupa.
It was a dragonfly the size of a man's palm, vibrant erald green with crystalline transparent wings that shimred with purple light at the edges. It circled the room a few tis before landing on Shisui's shoulder, gently nuzzling his cheek.
He could feel its thoughts—simple and innocent like a small child—but its affinity for him was instinctive and absolute.
"I'll call you Ao (Blue/Green)."
Shisui bit his finger and pressed a seal onto the dragonfly's forehead, establishing a summoning contract. Ao buzzed its wings, seemingly delighted with the na.
Suddenly, a dark blur lunged forward—it was the Invisible Scorpion. It perched on Shisui's other shoulder, its tail stinger twitching nacingly at the newcor. Ao didn't back down, vibrating its wings with a high-pitched warning.
"Don't start," Shisui scolded, catching both in his hands. "No fighting. Scorpion, don't bully Ao. Do you understand?"
The Invisible Scorpion retracted its stinger reluctantly, radiating a sense of grievance. Ao took the opportunity to land on top of Shisui's head, claiming the "high ground."
Shisui shook his head and began a full physical examination of Ao. The results were a mix of joy and slight disappointnt.
The good news: Ao had successfully beco a Sage Insect, capable of independently absorbing natural energy. This ant its future techniques would far surpass ordinary bugs.
The downside was that while it could absorb the energy, it couldn't yet consciously convert it into stable Senjutsu Chakra on its own—it was just a reservoir. Furthermore, it was a single-affinity creature: Wind Style.
"Well," Shisui murmured, "taking a single attribute to its absolute limit is a worthy path in itself."
He turned his gaze to the other side of the room, where a batch of rhinoceros beetles were nestled on a massive tree trunk.
After six months, they had grown several tis their original size, so as large as a fist. But they had yet to hatch, trapped in a deep, tamorphic slumber.
"It seems relying on their own strength will take years," Shisui frowned. "I'll have to manually accelerate their evolution. I just hope the energy in the vats is enough to sustain the burst."
