Inside the 4th Division barracks, Retsu Unohana, who was busy with her duties, broke into a smile the mont she saw Shin arrive.
Of course, it would have been better if he hadn't brought that little black cat with him. It wasn't that Unohana disliked cats, but she particularly disliked this one.
Yoruichi Shihoin t Unohana's gaze, then licked her paw and flashed her claws, as if in a show of defiance.
Unohana's smile remained fixed on her face, seemingly unaffected. She completely ignored the cat and rose to greet Shin.
"Why did you bring a little animal here? I'm not particularly fond of cats," Unohana said softly to Shin.
Shin sighed inwardly. Unohana knew perfectly well that the cat was Yoruichi Shihoin. She was doing this on purpose.
"Shin, it seems she doesn't welco us. Let's go," Yoruichi urged, trying to persuade him to leave.
"No, I only don't welco you." Unohana lowered her head and placed a hand on the black cat's head, making Yoruichi feel an indescribable sense of threat.
'Damn it. After all these years, I'm still no match for Unohana,' Yoruichi fud internally. Unohana's strength was indeed greater than hers, and by a considerable margin.
Although she had beco the captain of the 4th Division and rarely fought, it didn't an Unohana had neglected her combat skills. "By the way, should I buy you so cat food?" Shin asked Yoruichi with a grin.
"Shin, are you really treating like a pet cat?"
Yoruichi asked Shin angrily, her voice filled with frustration. If he really saw her as a cat, that was unforgivable.
"Aren't you a cat right now?" Shin said calmly.
"Do you want to change back?" Unohana asked Yoruichi with a smile.
Yoruichi looked up at Unohana and said deeply, "I'll pass on changing back for now. I'm not in a hurry. When I'm alone with Shin, then I'll change back."
Hearing this, Unohana's expression remained serene, but she secretly clenched her fists. She knew that if Yoruichi changed back, she would be completely naked.
Yoruichi felt a sense of triumph. Though Unohana appeared calm on the surface, she could feel her displeasure. As long as Unohana was unhappy, she was happy.
"Well, well, I didn't expect to run into Captain Shin and Captain Unohana on the street. Are you two on a date?"
A lazy voice drifted over, and Kyoraku Shunsui, wearing a straw hat, ambled towards them.
Yoruichi shot a sharp glance at Kyoraku. What did that guy just say? Right now, Yoruichi had the urge to draw her sword and slice him into ribbons.
For so reason, Kyoraku suddenly felt a chill. He looked around, and his gaze finally locked onto the black cat in Shin's arms.
"That black cat doesn't seem to like very much."
Kyoraku could clearly feel the cat's hostility, even a hint of killing intent. Was he really that unlikable to animals? Of course, Kyoraku had no idea that Yoruichi could turn into a cat; very few people knew.
"You should be glad she didn't just scratch you," Shin said to Kyoraku.
"Are you that free, running around town like this?" Shin couldn't help but ask, looking at Kyoraku with surprise.
"There's not much going on in the 8th Division right now, so I can relax a bit. Besides, aren't you just as free?"
There were no major incidents in the Seireitei at the mont, so most of the squad captains had nothing to do.
"By the way, did you know? The 11th Division has a new captain," Kyoraku said to Shin.
The previous captain had vanished without a trace. Kyoraku knew it had sothing to do with Shin, but he didn't plan to reveal it, not even to his close friend, Jushiro Ukitake. The forr Kenpachi, Kiganjo, had been asking for it anyway. Shin had warned him, but he still insisted on provoking him, and so he died.
"Kenpachi Zaraki?"
Shin raised an eyebrow and asked Kyoraku.
"So you already know. I heard the old man personally taught him. He's a battle maniac, currently challenging all the squad captains. He'll probably challenge you soon," Kyoraku said.
"Did he challenge you?" Shin knew that Kenpachi Zaraki was a battle maniac, the kind who either killed you or was killed by you. A true monster from the 80th district of Rukongai.
"Not yet. I'm actually out here to avoid him, so I don't get challenged."
"Are you scared?" Shin asked Kyoraku with a faint smile.
"Scared? Not really. But I don't like fighting."
Kyoraku wasn't afraid of Kenpachi Zaraki. In his current state, without releasing his full spiritual pressure, Kenpachi was no match for him. As for what would happen after Kenpachi unleashed his terrifying spiritual pressure, that was anyone's guess.
Of course, if Kyoraku used his Bankai, and his opponent didn't know its abilities, he would almost certainly win.
"Then you can go wander on your own. Don't disturb our date." Shin waved Kyoraku away and turned to leave.
Seeing Shin's dismissive attitude, Kyoraku couldn't help but curse under his breath. They were friends, weren't they? He'd even taken him out for drinks before, and now he was being so heartless.
"Ah, so much for friendship," Kyoraku sighed. Wandering the streets alone was pointless, especially with all the couples making him feel like a third wheel.
Seeing them, Kyoraku felt an inexplicable urge to set them all on fire.
As a proud mber of the singles club, his mood was sour. 'Forget it, I'll just go back. I'll go find Jushiro for a drink. I haven't seen him in a while. I wonder how he's doing.' Kyoraku was a bit worried about Ukitake's health.
