Taiichi woke to the soft morning light filtering through the paper screens of his new Senju-district ho. The air still carried the faint scent of last night's feast—tempura, grilled eel, and the sticky sweetness of the orphanage kids' laughter. He stretched, feeling the pleasant ache of muscles that had finally caught up to his new Chunin stats. The flak jacket hung on a nearby rack, its green fabric still crisp and unfamiliar. He ran a finger along the hem, a small smile tugging at his lips.

"Chunin Matsushita Taiichi," he muttered to the empty room. "Sounds a lot better than 'Genin for life.'"

The blue system panel materialized at the edge of his vision without him needing to call it.

> [Chunin Job Lv1 (34/100)]

> [Constitution: 17 ( 2 from transfer)]

> [Strength: 21 ( 1)]

> [Agility: 21 ( 1)]

> [Spirit: 16 ( 1)]

> [Talent "Potency" – Current Boost: 70% (Upgraded)]

> [Attribute Point: 1 remaining]

> [Skill Point: 1 remaining]

The numbers glowed with quiet satisfaction. Taiichi ntally assigned the free Attribute Point to Spirit—pushing it to 17—and the Skill Point straight into Fire Nature Transformation. The panel flickered once in approval.

> [Fire Nature Transformation Lv11 (523/3000) → Lv11 (723/3000)]

> [Potency synergy detected. Fla intensity and control range increased by an additional 8%.]

He couldn't help the grin. "Ti to test the new limits."

Ten Shadow Clones popped into existence with a single hand seal. "You four—clean the training ground and reinforce the barriers. You three—run dical diagnostics on the house seals. Last three—sparring rotation with . No holding back."

The clones saluted with varying degrees of enthusiasm and scattered. Taiichi stepped into the largest courtyard, the 1,000-square-ter pond reflecting the early sun. He drew his short sword, coated the blade in golden fla, and began.

The first swing felt… different. Where before the flas clung like liquid, now they surged outward in a controlled corona. A casual horizontal cut sent a crescent of fire slicing across the yard. It carved a clean trench in the packed earth before slamming into the reinforced barrier scroll. The scroll held—for half a second—then cracked with a sound like shattering glass.

Taiichi whistled. "Seventy percent is no joke."

He followed up with a no-seal Phoenix Flower barrage. Dozens of golden orbs blood around him like fireflies on steroids. They curved, split, and reford mid-air, each one packing the punch of a C-rank jutsu. One clone tried to block with a Water Wall; the flas simply flash-boiled the water into steam and kept going. Another clone attempted Earth Flow; the orbs punched straight through, leaving smoking holes.

By the ti the clones popped, Taiichi was breathing hard but grinning ear to ear. The mories flooded back—every angle, every failed defense, every tiny improvent in control. His Fire Nature Transformation bar ticked upward again.

> [Fire Nature Transformation 150]

He dispelled the remaining clones, stretched, and headed inside to shower. The hot water washed away the sweat and left him feeling lighter than he had in months. Chunin rank wasn't just a vest and a scroll; it was freedom. No more babysitting D-ranks. No more system mocking him. Just real missions, real growth, and—

A knock at the gate.

Taiichi dried off, threw on a simple black shirt and pants, and opened the door to find Yohei leaning against the fra, arms crossed, wearing his own new flak jacket like it was armor from a fairy tale.

"Yo, Lord Chunin! You gonna sleep all day or what?" Yohei's three-tomoe Sharingan spun lazily once in greeting. "Saori's already at the training grounds waiting. She said if you're late she'll hit you with a Lightning Net until your hair stands up."

Taiichi laughed. "Give two minutes. I'll grab breakfast on the way."

They jogged through the Senju district, the morning breeze cool against their faces. Yohei couldn't stop talking.

"I still can't believe Zintai's face when I opened my eyes yesterday. Guy looked like he swallowed a lemon! Three tomoe at fifteen—ha! The clan elders are probably writing angry letters right now. 'How dare a branch kid surpass the main house!'"

Taiichi nudged him. "Don't get cocky. You still lost to in the finals spar, rember?"

"Only because you cheated with those tracking fireballs! Totally unfair."

They reached Training Ground 7 just as Saori finished setting up three small sealing barriers. She looked up, smiled softly, and tossed each of them a bento she'd bought from Ichiraku on the way.

"Eat first. Then we train. Captain said no missions today, so we might as well use the ti."

The three of them sat in the shade of a large oak, devouring rice balls and grilled fish while cicadas buzzed overhead. Conversation drifted easily—how the written exam had been laughably easy, how the team battles felt like warm-ups, how Taiichi's single-step victory over the Abura kid had the Jonin in the stands muttering about "the next Yellow Flash."

Yohei polished off his third rice ball and leapt to his feet. "Alright! Spar ti! Taiichi, you versus and Saori. Clones allowed. Loser buys dango for a month!"

Taiichi raised an eyebrow. "You sure? I just tested my new Potency. It's… spicy."

"Bring it!"

They ford the seals. Three of Taiichi's clones appeared, one pairing with each real teammate. The real Taiichi stood in the center, sword drawn, golden flas already licking the blade.

The fight lasted eight intense minutes.

Yohei's Sharingan tracked every fireball, ricocheting kunai off his own projectiles in impossible arcs. Saori's lightning nets snapped across the field like living wires, forcing Taiichi to dodge and weave. But the 70% Potency was rciless. One Phoenix Flower volley curved around Yohei's guard and detonated in a controlled ring of golden fire, singeing his sleeve without burning skin. Saori's String Light Formation caught one clone, but the real Taiichi flickered behind her, tapped her shoulder with the flat of his blade, and whispered, "Dead."

When the dust settled, both teammates were panting, covered in soot and grass stains, while Taiichi barely looked winded.

Yohei flopped onto his back. "Okay… I take it back. The upgrade is broken. You're not human anymore."

Saori wiped sweat from her brow and smiled. "It felt different. Like your flas had weight. Not just heat—presence."

Taiichi sheathed his sword. "Seventy percent boost. Everything scales—intensity, control, even the way the flas curve. It's like the fire listens better now." He offered both hands and pulled them up. "We're not kids anymore. Chunin ans we lead from now on. We need to be ready for whatever the village throws at us."

They spent the rest of the afternoon rotating one-on-one drills. Taiichi coached Yohei on integrating his new tomoe with mid-range ninjutsu instead of relying purely on taijutsu. Saori showed Taiichi a few advanced sealing knots she'd been experinting with—perfect for anchoring barriers around their new house. In return, Taiichi demonstrated how he was starting to fuse tiny threads of Water Nature into his Wind Style to create cooling breezes. The three of them laughed when Yohei tried it and accidentally soaked himself.

By late afternoon the sun dipped low, painting the training ground gold. They packed up, sweat-soaked and satisfied.

"Tomorrow morning, Mission Hall, right?" Yohei asked, stretching until his back cracked. "I'm hoping for sothing juicy. A-rank, maybe even S. No more escorting caravans of grumpy rchants."

Saori elbowed him. "You jinxed us."

Taiichi just smiled. "Whatever it is, we'll handle it. Team 8 doesn't do half-asures."

They parted ways at the district gate—Yohei heading back to the Uchiha compound, Saori toward the civilian housing near the hospital, Taiichi turning toward his estate. He stopped at a small shrine on the way, lit a stick of incense for his parents' mory, and whispered a quiet thanks for the path that had brought him here.

Back ho, he fed the koi in the pond, then sat at his desk and reviewed the Daimyo's final list one last ti. Three nas. Nothing actionable yet. He'd hand it over during tomorrow's escort pickup, but for now he sealed it away. Politics could wait one more night.

He created a single Shadow Clone to handle evening chores and dical scroll transcription, then climbed into bed. The flak jacket lay neatly folded on the chair, a silent promise.

Tomorrow they would step into the world as Chunin. Whatever mission the Hokage assigned—boring escort or bloody battlefield—they would face it together.

Taiichi closed his eyes, the faint glow of the system panel fading behind his eyelids.

> [Chunin Job Lv1 (34/100) → Lv1 (47/100) – Daily training bonus applied]

> [Team Bond: Trust 3 (Team 8)]

Sleep claid him quickly, dreams filled with golden flas, crackling lightning nets, and three tomoe spinning in perfect sync.

The first day of the rest of their lives had been good.
