Naruto: Lost to Hinata on Purpose, and Now Everything's a Mess Chapter 31 31 : Learning Chidori
Kakashi smiled and said, "She looked the sa as yesterday. What could I possibly object to?"
Riku thought about it and realized that was true.
Still, there were so things he didn't understand fully, but after thinking it over carefully, he could more or less piece it together.
He looked up at Kakashi with a slight smile. "Kakashi-sensei, what are you going to teach today?"
The smile on Kakashi's face faded as he grew serious.
"Today, I'm going to teach you a jutsu I created myself. Technically, it's not sothing you should be learning at this stage... but since you managed to take down a Jōnin yesterday, I believe you're ready."
Riku froze for a second. He already had a pretty good idea of which jutsu Kakashi ant, but he was still surprised that Kakashi was willing to teach it to him.
Noticing Riku's reaction, Kakashi gave a small smile. "It's a Lightning Style technique called Chidori. It's an A-rank offensive ninjutsu."
Riku nodded.
He hadn't learned any A-rank jutsu yet—his strongest was currently Fire Style: Dragon Fla Bomb, a B-rank technique.
But Chidori was different. It had the potential for many variations in form.
One technique was designed for mass elimination, the other for single-target assassination. The purposes were entirely different.
Riku found himself looking forward to this.
Kakashi began explaining the principles of Chidori in detail.
The lecture lasted about half an hour.
Given the complexity of the technique, Kakashi wasn't sure Riku would be able to master it. A-rank jutsu were essentially Forbidden Techniques in terms of training risk. Chidori, in particular, required extrely high physical ability. Without it, the lightning chakra could even rebound and kill the user.
In short, learning it ca with significant danger.
After finishing the explanation, Kakashi stood in front of a large stone, forming hand seals.
"I hadn't planned to teach you this, because Chidori depends heavily on visual clarity. I use it effectively because I have the Sharingan. Without it, the technique becos highly restricted—and can be dangerous in real combat."
He finished his seals and lowered his hand, fingers clawed.
"Chidori."
Crackle~!
In an instant, arcs of electricity exploded around Kakashi's hand.
Lightning converged at his palm, forming a concentrated bolt—like a cone of pure energy.
Zzzzzt!
Boom!
Kakashi dashed forward in a flash, thrusting his hand into the boulder.
With a deafening burst, the lightning exploded outward, shattering the stone on impact.
Sparks flew. Dust and rock fragnts scattered in all directions. When it cleared, a crater several ters wide had ford at the point of contact.
The destructive power was impressive.
While it lacked the wide area-of-effect of Fire Style: Dragon Fla Bomb, it was one of the most lethal single-target jutsu.
Only sothing like the Rasengan could compare.
Riku smiled. "That's impressive. But it requires extrely high speed and reaction ti. No wonder you said the Sharingan is necessary—without it, you wouldn't even be able to properly lock onto the enemy."
Kakashi's sprint had been terrifyingly fast—almost as quick as the Body Flicker Technique.
At that speed, an ordinary ninja's reflexes and vision would be too slow to process their opponent's position.
It would be impossible to distinguish friend from foe in ti.
Even worse, once the technique was unleashed, it left the user vulnerable—an enemy could easily counterattack from behind if they dodged it.
Without the predictive power of the Sharingan, using Chidori ca with too many risks.
Riku thought to himself, No wonder Kakashi only taught this to Sasuke. Even if others wanted to learn it, without the Sharingan, they'd never be able to use it effectively.
After retrieving his arm from the broken stone, Kakashi turned back to Riku. "Give it a try. See if you can handle it. If you really can't control it, then drop it—it's too dangerous without the Sharingan."
Riku nodded. He was completely focused now.
He brought his hands together to form the seals.
Chidori only required two seals. It didn't take long.
"Chidori!"
He sprinted toward another large rock, slightly slower than Kakashi's demonstration—but still fast.
BOOM!
In the blink of an eye, he reached the boulder and drove his electrified hand into it.
CRACK!
A burst of lightning shattered the massive rock—five or six ters tall—into powder in an instant.
The sheer force of the thunder release was far greater than Kakashi's earlier display.
But Riku winced afterward. His hands were tingling.
"I got electrocuted… So this jutsu isn't as easy to control as it looks."
What he didn't know was that Kakashi had been stunned watching him.
Riku had not only managed to form and release Chidori on the first try—but the power had exceeded expectations.
It was on par with Raikiri, an S-rank version of the sa technique.
While S-rank jutsu were often labeled that way for their difficulty, the title usually ca with overwhelming destructive power as well.
Still, Kakashi thought to himself, Mastering it is just the first step. The real challenge is learning to use it fluidly in battle—being able to strike before the enemy has ti to react.
Chidori was known for the loud, chirping sound it emitted when activated—hence its na, "A Thousand Birds."
Kakashi typically relied on speed to counter that drawback.
He had high hopes for Riku's speed, but if that speed outpaced his reaction ti and vision, it could be dangerous.
Riku nodded thoughtfully. "My eyesight's actually pretty good—but it's definitely nowhere near the Sharingan's level."
He wasn't lying. His vision far surpassed the average ninja's—but compared to a dōjutsu like the Sharingan, there was no competition.
Kakashi considered this. "Let's run a test. I want to see just how sharp your reaction ti and vision really are. Maybe you'll be fine even without a Sharingan."
Riku didn't hesitate. "Alright."
In the next instant, Kakashi vanished and reappeared behind Riku.
Riku's eyes narrowed slightly—and then his form blurred.
He disappeared without forming a single seal.
Monts later, he reappeared dozens of ters away.
Kakashi was caught off guard. "Was that… the Body Flicker Technique?"
Riku nodded. "Yeah. Normally it requires hand seals, but only a few. I started wondering—could I use the Body Flicker without them?"
"I finally succeeded yesterday. I can use the Body Flicker Technique without any hand seals now. The performance is a bit weaker though. I used to be able to cross hundreds of ters instantly. Without seals, I'm limited to around 100 ters max."
After all, the Body Flicker Technique wasn't a space-ti jutsu like Flying Raijin—it wasn't true teleportation.
It just enhanced speed to extre levels.
