Now reading: Chapter 48: The Beginning of Change from Naruto: The Nine-Tails' Legacy, a Action novel by airatales.

"...Naruto, even though I'm your father's younger brother, I actually don't know who your father is either! I was kidnapped by traffickers before I was even old enough to rember things, then abandoned afterward. Later I got into an accident and lost my mories. I wandered outside for over twenty years…"

Terai spoke passionately with such heartfelt emotion that even he seed moved by his own story.

"And now that I've finally returned to my holand, although they told my identity, I still can't rember anything myself!"

"The only thing I know…"

He grabbed Naruto's shoulders dramatically.

"Is that you're the only family I have left!"

Naruto stood there utterly dumbfounded.

Even the Root sensory ninja secretly observing from the shadows looked stunned.

anwhile, inside Naruto's ntal world, both Kurama and Minato had already gone speechless.

This guy could really make things up.

"Terai's actually got talent for this?"

Even the other Root operatives monitoring the scene exchanged shocked glances.

For the first ti in their lives, they seriously wondered whether Root had wasted Terai's true potential.

Terai continued talking nonstop for nearly ten whole minutes.

And sohow—

Naruto genuinely never found an opening to interrupt him.

Only after struggling for ages did Naruto finally manage to squeeze in a sentence.

"U-Uncle, maybe we can continue this next ti? I've got plans tonight…"

How could Terai possibly let him leave?

"Naruto, you can't go yet! I haven't even told you the story of my adoptive mother!"

Naruto's head already felt like it was splitting apart.

Forced into desperation, he quickly made up an excuse.

"I-I'm just going to the bathroom! I'll be right back!"

Even Terai couldn't reasonably refuse that.

Still unwilling to give up, he imdiately prepared to continue stalling Naruto afterward—

He was even halfway through inventing another fake Konoha tradition proving that uncles and nephews could totally use the bathroom together—

When Naruto suddenly vanished without a trace in a blur of speed.

"Follow him—"

One of the Root operatives hidden nearby imdiately prepared to move.

But monts later, they saw Naruto already returning while adjusting his pants and scratching his head awkwardly.

"You finished that fast?"

Even Terai looked confused.

Still, Naruto returning voluntarily was naturally the best outco.

However—

At that mont, the sensory ninja hidden in the shadows suddenly cried out in alarm:

"Not good!"

"That's a Shadow Clone!"

Completely ignoring the Third Hokage's previous order strictly forbidding Root from approaching the Nine-Tails jinchūriki, the sensory ninja rushed directly out from hiding and shouted toward Terai, who was still chatting happily with Naruto.

anwhile, the real Naruto—already far away—muttered smugly to himself:

"Knew it was a scam."

"Good thing I'm smart."

"What kind of uncle story was that? Maybe it'd fool a five-year-old, but there's no way I'm falling for it."

"Anyway, I'm done playing with you guys."

"Big Sister Izumi said she wanted to teach her barbecue techniques tonight. Can't make her wait too long."

As he spoke, Naruto casually dispelled the Shadow Clone.

Then, activating the Flying Thunder God Technique—

He vanished instantly.

"Damn it!"

"That brat…"

Only monts later, Terai and the other Root operatives arrived at the location.

Yet no matter what thods they used, they couldn't detect Naruto's whereabouts whatsoever.

Their expressions instantly turned ugly.

"Hurry and report to Lord Danzō."

"Hopefully…"

The sensory ninja's face darkened.

"The Nine-Tails didn't go toward the Uchiha."

anwhile, inside Naruto's ntal world—

Minato's expression suddenly beca extrely serious.

"Could it be…"

"Is this the mont?"

Kurama looked thoughtfully toward Minato.

Just as the fox was about to speak—

Suddenly—

An extrely familiar and completely undisguised malice entered his perception.

"It's him?!"

The instant Naruto arrived through Flying Thunder God—

A shuriken suddenly tore through the air directly toward his face.

Startled, Naruto imdiately crouched down while covering his head to dodge.

"Surrender your—"

The cold voice abruptly shifted into shock.

"Naruto-kun?! Why are you here?!"

Izumi Uchiha stared at the suddenly appearing Naruto in complete disbelief.

At this mont, she wore a sharp, efficient shinobi outfit.

The standard Konoha forehead protector covered her smooth white forehead.

Gone was her previous gentle and graceful image.

In its place stood an icy beauty.

And the scarlet Sharingan unique to the Uchiha clan added a strange, dangerous charm to her appearance.

But Naruto had absolutely no ti to admire such a rare sight.

Because the instant he landed and dodged the shuriken—

A terrifying wave of malice and killing intent suddenly erupted from the building behind her.

Naruto didn't know the brightly lit structure before him was the headquarters of the Konoha Military Police Force.

He only felt as though so world-destroying monster was rampaging wildly within it.

He could sense countless emotions of fear and terror from inside—

Yet all of them were being devoured one by one by a killing intent so pure it beca indescribable.

Naruto instinctively turned toward the windows of the building behind him.

The light shining through them wasn't dim because of shadows.

Sothing else covered it.

Blood.

Blood!

The vivid crimson color stabbed directly into Naruto's eyes.

"I-Izumi… Big Sister Izumi…"

Naruto's voice trembled.

"What's inside there?!"

"I can feel the people in that building disappearing one after another…"

"Sothing…"

"Sothing's coming!"

Naruto felt his entire body shiver uncontrollably.

He subconsciously swallowed hard as coldness crawled up his spine.

Without hesitation, Izumi instantly flashed in front of Naruto protectively.

"Run!"

"This place is dangerous!"

Naruto's words only deepened the anxiety inside Izumi's heart.

She vaguely knew Naruto possessed the ability to sense surrounding malice.

And his instinctive reaction proved one terrifying possibility—

Inside that building…

Sothing had already happened.

Not daring to lower her guard for even a second, Izumi protected Naruto behind her with one hand while her three-tomoe Sharingan spun at full speed.

Its overwhelming dynamic vision locked tightly onto the entrance of the police headquarters.

He's here!

"Hm?"

The masked Obito had barely stepped out of the doorway—

When three shuriken instantly tore through the air toward him.

The timing, speed, and attack angles were flawless.

But—

The shuriken passed harmlessly through Obito's body before embedding themselves into the wall behind him.

Obito slowly turned his head.

From behind the spiral mask, his single Sharingan quietly observed Izumi.

"Excellent eyes."

His voice carried faint interest.

"What exactly are you protecting?"

Izumi answered only by launching another three shuriken at astonishing speed.

Yet once again—

They passed straight through him without effect.

"How is that possible?!"

Izumi's expression changed drastically.

But before she could react further—

Obito's ghostlike figure suddenly appeared directly before her.

The chains wrapped around his arms instantly passed through her body before locking tightly around her entire form.

The terrifying force slamd Izumi painfully to the ground as chakra-controlled chains restrained her completely.

"Nothing's here?"

Standing behind Izumi now, Obito ignored her futile struggles and instead looked around suspiciously at the empty surroundings.

Just monts earlier—

He clearly sensed a strange yet oddly familiar chakra fluctuation.

Beneath the mask, Obito frowned.

"Naruto-kun… escaped successfully…"

Bound by chains on the ground, Izumi secretly relaxed slightly.

But when she saw the masked man turning back toward her while slowly drawing a blade from the distorted void—

Fear flooded her heart once more.

At the mont of facing death directly—

What surfaced within her was not the resolve of an Uchiha shinobi.

But the genuine terror of a thirteen-year-old girl.

Tears filled her eyes as she instinctively whispered softly:

"Please save … Itachi-kun…"

Your Itachi can't save you.

Obito mocked coldly within his mind.

Yet at that exact instant—

A deafening roar suddenly exploded behind him.

The roar of a raging water dragon!

"Sage Art: Water Release—Heavenly Triple Roaring Cyclone Blossoming Ice-Sealing Water Dragon Bullet: Zero Style!"
