Now reading: Chapter 9 9: Assets: Significant from Naruto: The Will of Fire (Rated M), a Action novel by evilUchiha.

The flaps of the Ichiraku Ran stand parted, releasing a cloud of steam that slled like pork bones, soy sauce, and salvation.

"Old Man! Two Miso Chashu! Extra pork! Extra egg! And the biggest bowls you have!" Kenji shouted as he slid onto a stool, slapping a crisp 1000 Ryo bill onto the counter.

Teuchi, the owner and arguably the strongest being in the Naruto universe (if fan theories were to be believed), blinked. He looked at the money, then at Kenji, then at the teary-eyed Naruto sniffing beside him.

"Well, well," Teuchi grinned, his eyes crinkling into happy crescents. "If it isn't Naruto! And brought a friend today? I haven't seen you before, kid."

"I'm Kenji," Kenji said, giving a polite nod. "I'm Naruto's financial advisor/life coach."

"Life coach, huh?" Teuchi laughed, tying his headband tighter. "Alright, coming right up! Aya, get the boys so water!"

"Coming!"

A girl stepped out from the back. Aya. She was eighteen, wearing the standard white work uniform and a bandana.

Kenji's eyes imdiately locked onto the target.

Kenji nudged Naruto with his elbow. "Naruto. Pay attention."

Naruto was busy wiping his nose. "Huh? To what? The nu?"

"No, you uncultured swine. To the chanics," Kenji whispered, leaning in as Aya reached up to grab two glasses from a high shelf.

The motion caused her uniform to stretch. Physics took over. Gravity fought against fabric, resulting in a montary, majestic bounce.

"Do you see that?" Kenji murmured reverently. "That is the conservation of montum."

Naruto squinted. "She's... getting glasses?"

Kenji sighed. The boy was hopeless. "Naruto, listen to . Ran is not just food. It is a taphor for life. It must be firm, yet yielding. Hot, yet approachable. And the presentation..." Kenji gestured subtly toward Aya placing the water down. "...is everything."

Aya smiled at them, completely unaware she was being used as a teaching aid. "Here you go, boys. Two big waters."

"Thank you, Onee-san," Kenji said with a charming smile that was far too mature for a six-year-old. "Your efficiency is only matched by your radiance."

Aya giggled. "My, aren't you a smooth talker? Naruto, learn from your friend."

She walked away to chop onions.

Naruto looked at Kenji, eyes wide. "How did you do that? She gave us extra ice!"

"It's called charisma, Naruto. It's a stat. You should level it up," Kenji said, though he knew Naruto's 'Charisma' stat was currently bugged and replaced with 'Loudness.'

Teuchi slamd two massive bowls of steaming ran onto the counter. "Order up! Eat while it's hot!"

Naruto didn't need to be told twice. "Itadakimasu!"

He attacked the bowl like it had personally insulted his ancestors. Noodles flew. Broth splashed. It was a massacre.

Kenji, on the other hand, picked up his chopsticks with deliberate grace. He blew on the noodles gently.

"So," Naruto mumbled through a mouthful of pork. "Where did you get the money again?"

"I told you," Kenji said, sipping the broth. "A donation. From a teacher nad Mizuki. He was very insistent that I take it. He basically threw it at ."

Technically true. He threw his guard down, and I took it.

"Wow," Naruto swallowed. "Teachers are nice to you. They just yell at ."

The mood dipped for a second. Kenji put down his chopsticks.

"Naruto," Kenji said seriously. "They yell at you because they are blind. They see the outside. I see the inside."

Naruto stopped eating. He looked at Kenji, hope shining in his eyes. "You... you see the inside?"

"Yes," Kenji nodded. "I see a kid who can eat five bowls of ran and not vomit. That is a talent, Naruto. That is a gift. Never let anyone tell you otherwise."

Naruto's face crumpled, then resolved into a determined grin. "Yeah! I'm gonna be the Ran King! I an... Hokage!"

[The Hokage's Office]

The air in the circular office was thick with the sll of old paper and sweet tobacco smoke. The Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi, sat behind his desk, the weight of the village resting on his shoulders—along with a stack of paperwork regarding a dispute over a missing cat.

"Report," Hiruzen grunted, picking up a thin file.

From the shadows, an ANBU operative with purple hair and a porcelain mask knelt.

"Subject: Kenji Sato," Hiruzen read aloud, his eyes scanning the docunt. "Age: Six. Academy Student. Class 1-A."

He flipped the page.

"Father: Daiki Sato. Chunin. KIA during a border skirmish three years ago. Mother: Emi Sato. Died of illness shortly after. No siblings. No clan affiliation."

Hiruzen puffed on his pipe, a cloud of smoke drifting over the crystal ball. "A standard tragedy. The war left many such orphans."

He looked up at the ANBU. "And this is the boy who approached Naruto?"

"Yes, Hokage-sama," Yūgao (Code Na: Neko) replied, her voice steady. "They ate ran together. They walked ho together. The subject initiated the contact."

Hiruzen leaned back in his chair, the leather creaking. He closed his eyes for a mont. He had been worried about Naruto's isolation fueling the Nine-Tails' hatred. But if the boy found friends naturally...

"I see no issue," Hiruzen said, a rare, genuine smile touching his lips. "Naruto cannot be isolated forever. He needs bonds to tether him to the village. If a classmate is willing to overlook the... prejudice... then we should encourage it."

In the shadows, Yūgao stiffened.

She wanted to speak. She wanted to scream.

Hokage-sama, she thought, the mory of the "Golden Dragon" burned into her retinas. That boy is not normal. He is a nace. He urinated off a balcony and drew your face in the dirt! He called it 'Artistic Integrity'! He is not a friend; he is a corrupting influence!

But she held her tongue. How could she report that? 'Sir, the suspect is a danger because he helicopters his junk at the moon'? She would be sent to the psychiatric ward.

"Monitor them loosely," Hiruzen ordered, stamping the file with 'Approved'. "Let the Will of Fire burn. If the boy makes Naruto happy, let him be."

"Understood," Yūgao choked out. She flickered away, praying that Kenji wouldn't teach Naruto any "art."
