After eting Pakura, Kitahara Kaede's daily life remained largely unchanged.

Go on missions, return, close the door, sleep.

The only difference was that he now took an extra glance whenever he passed the sentry posts on the village outskirts, noting the exact timing of the guard rotations. Which paths had new sensory barriers installed, which patrol teams had recently been reassigned—he quietly committed it all to mory.

One evening, after marking another position, he turned toward the river and walked downstream. He had half a piece of dry ration tucked in his pocket for the cat.

Before he reached the crooked tree, he heard a sound.

The rushing of water.

Kitahara Kaede slowed his pace and stepped into the shadows of the trees.

Terumi i.

She was standing on the surface of the river, her hands blurring through signs.

"Water Dragon Bullet!"

A water dragon surged from the river, lunging toward the rock wall on the opposite bank. It looked the part, but the mont the dragon slamd into the cliff, its form shattered. It was like a paper dragon whose spine had snapped mid-flight; it collapsed into a splash of water, failing to leave even a decent dent in the stone.

Terumi i brushed a wet lock of hair from her forehead and ford the signs again.

Another water dragon.

This one was slightly better, maintaining its shape upon impact. But the power was still lacking. Water sprayed everywhere, leaving only a few shallow streaks on the rock wall.

She didn't stop.

Third ti, fourth ti, fifth ti.

Each attempt yielded the sa result. The technique could take shape, but the power never peaked.

Kitahara Kaede leaned against a tree trunk and watched for a while.

Five consecutive Water Dragon Bullets required a significant amount of chakra, yet her hand signs remained steady, and she maintained her balance on the water without effort.

Chakra volu wasn't the problem.

The signs and the shaping weren't the problem either; it only fell apart at the mont it needed to deliver force.

The problem lay in her chakra control.

The amount she poured in was sufficient, but the precision of her control couldn't keep up. Once chakra is refined in the pathways, it must be delivered to the technique with stability—the flow rate, density, and rhythm all have to be precisely allocated.

She was failing at this step.

She had the volu, but without the control, the result was an empty shell. It was like pouring cent into a mold; there was enough material, but it wasn't mixed evenly, leaving the structure full of air bubbles. The finished product looked correct, but it shattered the mont it took any pressure.

She likely felt it herself, which was why she was practicing repeatedly, hoping to grind through this plateau via repetition.

But repetition wouldn't work.

The bottleneck wasn't the technique itself, but her fundantals—the fundantals of chakra control.

Then, another thought occurred to Kitahara Kaede.

It seed she only practiced Water Style. From the ti she graduated until now, whether on missions or at the training grounds, every ti he had seen her attack, it was either a Water Style technique or taijutsu. He had never heard of her using Boil Release or Lava Release.

Kitahara Kaede knew she possessed two Bloodline Limits.

But did she know it herself?

Not necessarily. To confirm their chakra natures, shinobi usually used chakra sensing paper. In most hidden villages, this test wasn't conducted upon graduation. Usually, it was arranged when one was promoted to Chunin or even Jonin.

She had only graduated recently; in all likelihood, she hadn't been tested yet. If she hadn't, she would simply assu she only possessed the Water nature. In the Hidden Mist, nine out of ten shinobi majored in Water Style, so no one would find it strange.

However, that wasn't the point right now.

After a mont's thought, Kitahara Kaede stepped out from behind the tree.

Terumi i had just finished her sixth Water Dragon Bullet, and the rock wall remained virtually unmarked. She closed her eyes to regulate her breathing, her chest heaving.

The sound of footsteps reached her.

She spun around violently.

A kunai was already in her hand.

Her erald eyes locked onto him, the emotion in them direct and sharp. Killing intent—it was an instinct bred into everyone by this village. In the Bloody Mist, soone watching you train from behind had only one aning.

Kitahara Kaede stood ten paces away, looking at her in silence.

Terumi i's gaze lingered on his face for two seconds. The killing intent vanished, and the kunai lowered.

It was him.

"How long have you been standing there?"

Kitahara Kaede didn't answer.

He moved, stepping onto the surface of the river. The water barely rippled beneath his feet.

Terumi i stepped back half a pace, her kunai instinctively lifting an inch. But Kitahara Kaede didn't look at her.

He faced the rock wall on the opposite bank and ford the signs.

The sa Water Dragon Bullet.

The river exploded as a water dragon surged upward.

Terumi i's pupils contracted.

It was the sa technique, the sa hand signs. But the water dragon he produced was entirely different from hers. From the initial surge to the final sprint, there wasn't a single mont of instability.

The dragon lunged forward with concentrated power and slamd into the rock wall.

*BOOM—*

Debris flew everywhere.

A basin-sized crater now marred the rock wall, with cracks spreading outward like a spiderweb. A curtain of water crashed down, soaking them both.

Terumi i stood frozen.

She stared at that crater.

This was a technique she had practiced for two months without being able to penetrate the stone. He had walked up and, with a casual effort, smashed a hole into it.

Kitahara Kaede released the signs, flickered back to the shore, and looked at her.

"Your chakra control is the problem."

Terumi i's brow twitched.

"It's not a lack of volu," Kitahara Kaede said. "It's that your control precision can't keep up. Instead of repeating this technique over and over, you'd be better off going back to the basics of chakra control. Once your fundantals are solid, the power of your Water Dragon Bullet will naturally increase."

Terumi i stood there, stunned.

She had practiced for nearly two months, hitting the sa wall every single ti. She thought she had reached her ceiling—that this was simply the maximum effect this technique could produce.

Yet this person had watched for a few minutes, demonstrated it once, and pinpointed the exact problem.

Chakra control.

Terumi i opened her mouth to speak, but no words ca out.

By then, Kitahara Kaede had already turned around. He walked to the crooked tree, crouched down, broke the half-piece of dry ration into crumbs, and scattered them in front of the cat's nose.

The cat flicked its tongue to lick them up.

He brushed the crumbs off his hands, stood up, and left along the riverbank.

Terumi i stood on the water, watching his silhouette be swallowed layer by layer by the mist.

'So, I was moving in the wrong direction.'

Terumi i looked down at her blurred reflection in the water. Then, another thought occurred to her.

Why did he tell her this?

He didn't just tell her; he had demonstrated it right in front of her. In the Mist Village, no one gave away useful information for free. A piece of intelligence, a suggestion, even a well-aning reminder—there was always an ulterior motive.

But he had spoken and then simply left. He didn't wait for her reaction; he didn't ask for anything in return.

He treated her with the sa attitude he showed that cat.

Drop the food, then walk away.

Terumi i slid her kunai back into her holster and leaped from the river onto the shore.
