"Welco in!"

Morning light poured through the clean glass windows of Yamanaka Flowers, filling the shop with warmth. Ino was in the middle of sorting a fresh delivery of stems when the small bell above the door chid, and she turned with her shopkeeper's smile already in place.

It faltered for just a mont when she saw who it was.

"Oh, Naruto! Congratulations on the wedding yesterday!"

Her eyes did a quick sweep. Naruto was carrying a paper bag from a well-known confectionery shop, the kind with the distinctive red color of tomatoes visible through the translucent packaging. He looked, on the surface, much the sa as always.

Except. His blue eyes had a slow, hazy quality to them, and there were faint shadows under them that hadn't been there before. His whole presence gave off an air that was equal parts happiness and exhaustion, the particular combination that told a story without needing words.

Given that yesterday had been his wedding, and weddings were generally followed by an evening of very private celebration between the couple in question, Ino felt she understood perfectly. She adjusted her expression before the amusent beca too obvious.

"Here to buy flowers for Satsuki? Coming to pick out fresh flowers on the morning of the second day, that's very thoughtful of you."

Naruto nodded, his movents carrying a small, involuntary looseness to them, the kind that ca with deep satisfaction. "Yeah..." He set the tomato confectionery bag carefully on an empty section of the counter.

Ino had long since lost the faint unease she'd once carried around anything connected to Uchiha Satsuki. Back in their Academy days, a small misunderstanding had left her genuinely nervous about the girl. But that was years ago. Satsuki and Naruto had found their way to each other, and yesterday they had done so in front of the entire village with a ten-tier wedding cake. As far as Ino could reason, a Satsuki who had everything she'd ever wanted had absolutely no reason to spare a single thought for soone as irrelevant to her happiness as a classmate-turned-flower-shop-owner.

Ino had attended the wedding, given a proper gift, offered sincere congratulations. She was, by any reasonable asure, safe.

That settled, she leaned into her professional expertise with genuine enthusiasm.

"So, what are you looking for? Roses?"

"Yeah, roses..." Naruto pointed toward the most prominent display, where a cluster of deep red blooms sat in full color. Then he paused, looking slightly uncertain. "Actually, is there anything better? I want sothing that really... says what I an, I guess."

Ino's professional pride lit up. She gestured for him to follow her deeper into the shop, past the standard arrangents toward the more carefully tended varieties that required specific care and weren't on the main floor.

"Red roses are a classic, but if you layer in other flowers, the aning gets so much richer. Here, look at this one." She gestured toward a full, many-petaled bloom in a soft amber-pink tone. "This is a Juliet rose. It's considered one of the rarest and most precious rose varieties in the world, known for representing a promise that doesn't change and a love that keeps its worth over ti. For a new couple, it carries the aning that what you have now will only grow more valuable."

Naruto studied it for a mont. He nodded slowly.

Ino moved on. "And this one, over here, is lily of the valley. The aning is returning happiness and pure love. In so traditions it's worked into the bridal bouquet specifically, as a symbol of passing happiness on to the couple. Given that yesterday was the wedding, bringing it today carries a nice sense of continuation."

She picked up a few stems of a deep purple bloom next. "This is a variety called Ocean Song rose. The aning is quiet love and sincere romance. Honestly, it suits Satsuki's energy well."

Naruto had been listening carefully through all of it. He wasn't soone who naturally thought in terms of flower symbolism, but he had made up his mind.

"Can you put together an arrangent with the Juliet rose as the main flower, so lily of the valley and Ocean Song mixed in, and then add a few white tulips and hydrangea? And the leaves you were ntioning, the eucalyptus. Can you make the wrapping nice?"

"Absolutely, leave it to ." Ino began selecting the freshest specins from each variety with practiced hands, working through the combination with the kind of focused attention her family's trade had given her a natural feel for.

The finished bouquet was full and layered, the different blooms settling against each other in a way that looked intentional and unhurried at the sa ti, the scents of several flowers coming together into sothing that was more than the sum of its parts.

"There." She handed it across the counter. It had real weight to it. "That's the best arrangent I can put together right now as a declaration of love. Satsuki is going to be very happy when she sees it." Ino smiled. "Congratulations again. I hope the two of you stay just like this."

"Sorry to bother you, I'm back again... oh? Is soone here?"

A calm, even voice ca from the doorway.

Naruto turned toward it on instinct.

Standing in the entrance was a young Konoha shinobi. His skin was notably pale. His features were clean and well-proportioned in a way that was easy to look at. He was dressed in a standard Konoha uniform and was holding, in one hand, a book. The title read: High-EQ Conversation Techniques: From Beginner to Expert.

"Sai. You co by pretty often," Ino said from behind the counter, her tone easy and unsurprised by his presence. "Going again today?"

The young man, Sai, gave a single nod. "My brother shouldn't have to be alone too long. White chrysanthemums and lilies again, please."

"Got it, one mont." Ino disappeared toward the back shelving where she kept those particular stems.

The shop went quiet. Sai and Naruto were the only two left near the front.

Sai's gaze settled on Naruto with calm, unhurried attention, the way soone looks when they are gathering information rather than making conversation. After a few seconds he moved forward, stopping at a comfortable distance, roughly a ter and a half away.

He did not react with the surprise or the warm congratulations that most people had been offering. Instead he held his book a little tighter and looked at Naruto directly, his expression serious.

"This is our first proper eting. We've been in the sa village for so ti, but speaking this close is new. It's a pleasure to et you, Uzumaki Naruto-senpai. I am Sai, from the ANBU. I have long been aware of your na and your accomplishnts as a hero of Konoha. eting you in person is an honor."

The words were correct. The structure was formal and complete. Delivered in a tone that managed to carry a certain textbook precision to it, paired with the utterly neutral expression on a face that seed to have been built for handsoness and then given very little instruction on what to do with it, and accompanied at all tis by the presence of that particular book, the whole introduction had the quality of sothing carefully rehearsed in advance.

He watched Naruto attentively after finishing, as though waiting for a result. Checking, perhaps, whether the technique had landed.
