931. How Jury Sees Mimicry

The hardened attitude of the Black Wing had completely shattered, leaving a bare Abigail to timidly approach the desk and reach out to shake Frost’s hand.

“A-Abigail! Black Wing! Dedicated Healer of the Acedia Special Division!”

“You’re fairing well too. It’s been a while. A long while.”

“Six years as well! I... almost didn’t recognize you at all.”

“Now, I wouldn’t make that sa mistake.” Acedia gloated nonchalantly.

None of them looked like they had six years of change at all.

Abigail should have been an incredibly stoic Black Wing with the amount of training she must have, but she was surprisingly ek.

In front of her at least.

From what she heard, Abigail was no different from a regular Black Wing according to her mannerisms. She was dressed in the sa black, militarized outfits of the Black Wings which utilized Quality IX Cloth.

Given how easy it was to manufacture Quality IX Cloth thanks to Oboros Infinitas’ operations, all mbers of the Head had access to these legendary-quality clothes.

Suddenly, Abigail’s eyes began to water.

“*Sniffle* I’m so happy… To see you again…”

She looked like an abandoned puppy.

“Is it worth crying over?” The Orange Disruptor cleaned an ear with a finger.

“Shuddup Orange lackey! It’s the Amalgam! If you t the person who gave you hope, then you’d cry too!”

“Sure kiddo. Whatever you say.”

Seeing Abigail shed tears over seeing her again moved Frost’s heart. She placed a hand onto her head, mothering her for as long as she needed to.

The adorable, dark-skinned girl owed her life to Acedia, a Corrupted that probably didn’t even know why it had saved her. Still, she chose to serve that sa Corrupted. The worries she regarding Abigail’s safety disappeared when she saw the girl clutch onto Acedia’s sleeves.

“This is your place, huh.”

“Mhm. It’s a cold and miserable place. But it’s our place. We worked hard to earn it!”

The girl nodded, wiping her tears away with a handkerchief made from Quality IX Cloth.

Quality IX Cloth was so readily accessible that such items could be made from them. If a King were to see such legendary cloth used as nothing more than a snot collector, then they would surely have a heart attack.

As Frost continued pampering her, a patch of white entered her vision.

“No?” Acedia asked.

She had presented her head to Frost for head pats.

“You know, you’re actually pretty cute when you’re docile.” Frost patted her head too, her fingers reaching into her smooth scalp.

“If you believe I am, then I am.” She humbly said. “A head pat from the Amalgam. I shall engrave it into my flesh.”

“How about you just enjoy it?”

“The hell am I lookin’ at…” The Orange Disruptor pinched the bridge of her nose before looking to Jury for an answer.

Jury stood there; her chin pridefully raised as sparkles shone across her body, stating: “That’s my wife for you!”

“Even this Aisyle look-alike isn’t making any sense. I need a smoke.”

To see the very figurehead of the Nexus – a god in every sense of the word – treating a foul-mouthed Black Wing and taming a Corrupted with the potential to eliminate a city was out of fever dream.

She had first handedly witnessed the destruction of G-Z7 and the nightmares it harbored.

But this was where she drew the line.

When Frost thought she had pampered them enough, she noticed that Acedia’s scalp had beco moist. Boney even. Her fingers were dragged along what felt like the edges of a wet crystal…

Wait. No. Are these teeth?

Slits opened across Acedia’s body, including her clothes. Human-shaped teeth, tongues, and tentacles appeared across her body in response to Frost’s touch.

“Amalgam. My contract may break if you continue touching .” Acedia warned, though she didn’t seem too concerned about it.

Abigail on the other hand had her eyes rolled behind her head, like a cat who was getting the best scritches of her life.

Surely, this isn’t the result of the Touch of The Black Dove… right?

MASTERY: Touch of the Black Dove (Captivating)

< The touch sprouted bliss from the bottom of their hearts >

< EFFECT: Dominate your targets by flooding their receptors with bliss >

It was a parody version of the Touch of the Black Dove.

One that Frost couldn’t help but chuckle at.

* * *

“Jury. You should introduce yourself too.”

Jury smiled from ear to ear as she stood right beside Frost, her tail tapping her lover’s hips to show their intimacy.

Contrary to what Frost thought, Acedia didn’t react to this. Instead, she eagerly held out a hand to Jury.

“You must be the Amalgam’s… Companion? Friend? Who are you?”

“Right. You’ve never t Jury in person, have you?” Frost began.

How should I introduce her? I’m a bit afraid that Acedia might react violently if she learns that this is my wife. Though, if that’s the case, then she’s not fit to be a Division Leader.

So, after deliberating on it for no longer than a few seconds, she placed a hand on Jury’s shoulder and plopped her head right next to hers.

“This is Jury. My wife.”

“Nice to et you~!” Jury bead; her radiant smile reflected in Acedia’s vacant eyes.

The monster placed both hands onto the table as if to support herself. A maelstrom of confusion ravaged her mind. Acedia could not believe what she had just heard.

A dark expression ford on Acedia’s face – the first expression that was not a smile.

Frost braced herself. No matter what Acedia said, she’ll never part from Jury.

And if it ant eliminating Acedia, then so be it.

Finally, Acedia broke the silence.

“Who is the mother?”

“Acedia, I’m afraid I’m going to have to put you down – Wait, huh?”

“Good question!” Jury enthusiastically exclaid. “Who is the mother out of both of us?”

“Or, could it be two mothers?” Acedia contemplated. “Does it work? Abigail. If you and I were to mate like insects, then who would be the mother?”

“E-EH!?” Abigail stamred, knocking over a bunch of paperwork. “Huh!? Acedia!?”

“Hypothetically speaking.” Acedia corrected.

“Oh… Well… probably you because you got the appendages. I think that’s how it works?” For so reason, Abigail seed a little disappointed.

The reason why her expression had darkened was because of this conundrum.

“Then Jury is my father. No, a mother, but with the biological functions of a father. Is that correct?” Mimicry declared. “Then the Amalgam must be the primary mother. My mother, by the logic of my Origin pertaining to her.”

“Hold on just a fucking mont –!”

Right as Frost was about to protest, Jury clasped the hands of Mimicry and squealed.

“YOU THINK SO TOO!?”

“… Hm?”

“Awww! Acedia! Look Frost! We really do have a child!”

Suddenly, Acedia eyes ward up to Jury.

“By extension then, that would make you my mother.”

“That’s right!”

“No – No – Hey, what do you an ‘that’s right’!?” Frost had no idea what on Earth was happening now. “Jury? Elysia to Jury! Hello?”

But sohow, Jury and Acedia had ford a special bond before her very eyes.

And it was over the adoption of this monster.

Jury cupped Acedia’s face and squeezed her cheeks.

“Look! She even has your face! And she has my hair too!”

“You realize that it’s because…”

The squeals of Jury, the nods of Acedia, and the flustered Abigail were not in the condition to listen to her.

“… she can change her appearance. Fuck sakes.”

Frost looked over at the Orange Disruptor, who was seated on a couch with her legs kicked up as she smoked from a pipe.

“Don’t look at , Amalgam. You chose the married life. Not . The fuck is this bullshit. Stuck with a bunch of dumbasses on a train to hell. Why the hell did I sign that contract anyway? ‘Horus lend a hand’. ‘Horus review the data’. ‘Horus do a flip’ ‘Horus where did Thoth go?’”. Shit’s screwed up.”

Horus. This was the na of the Orange Disruptor.

Not that it mattered now.

Not when Jury was about to adopt Mimicry as their very own daughter.

“… I’ll be over there…”

An utterly defeated Frost plopped down on one of the sofas, waiting for this nightmare to end. Sitting on the coffee table was a bottle of whiskey.

And to add insult to injury–
