Suddenly, Munan’s brow furrowed as he quickly turned around to look at the passage behind him.

"What is it?" Yang Yan was startled by this sudden movent, nearly jumping in place, and looked behind in horror.

But there was nothing behind, or at least nothing she could see, as the hallway was filled with choking smoke, with visibility just slightly better than downstairs.

"What is it, did you find sothing?" Yang Yan asked nervously, hiding behind Munan.

"Shut up!" Munan hissed and forcefully shook off Yang Yan’s arm.

This guy actually hugged her tightly—didn’t she realize that it would restrict their movents? If danger appeared, they wouldn’t be able to escape.

As the two of them fell into complete silence, Yang Yan heard it too—a faint rubbing sound emanating from the dense fog, like feet dragging across the ground. Even by sound alone, one could feel the chill and rigidity.

Yang Yan’s face changed dramatically; she knew what it was. She had heard Yang Xiao and Zhou Mingxiao talk about it: the previous night they had encountered a terrifying Waist-breaking Ghost.

It’s here again...

Yang Yan was on the verge of tears, unable to understand why all the strange events from the previous night that others encountered seed to happen to them as well.

Chen Nang was entangled with the Hanging Ghost, his fate uncertain, and now they had run into the Waist-breaking Ghost, which had almost claid Zhou Mingxiao’s life.

"Don’t just stand there, follow !" Munan tapped Yang Yan on the arm, signaling her to stick close.

Encountering this Waist-breaking Ghost was not unexpected for Munan, and he didn’t panic too much. His real concern was for Chen Nang, who hadn’t arrived after so long, making Munan fear that sothing had happened to him.

After all, Chen Nang’s task wasn’t just to deal with the Hanging Ghost; the crucial goal was to obtain the paper inside the female ghost’s pocket.

This was a very risky move, and no one knew what consequences it might lead to.

But now, she couldn’t afford to worry about others; ensuring her survival was key, and of course, trying her best to protect Yang Yan, who was quite a burden.

Guided by Munan, the two quickly found an open room to hide in. After settling Yang Yan, Munan hid behind the door alone, peering out through the crack.

To ensure safety, Munan lay flat on the ground, bringing his eyes close to the crack behind the door.

At that mont, Yang Yan hid far away in the corner of the room, limbs spread out, lying obediently on the ground without daring to lift her head, as Munan had instructed.

Additionally, Yang Yan held a piece of paper between her lips, another requirent from Munan. If she returned to find the paper dropped or misplaced, she would be in for a slap.

"Squeak—"

"Squeak—"

The rubbing sound in the corridor grew closer. Munan instinctively held his breath. Soon, amidst the blurry smoke, a half-human shape appeared.

That’s right—it was just half, with no upper body, just a pair of legs.

They were a pair of man’s legs, wearing filthy trousers and black leather shoes, feet dragging without lifting, the soles scraping forward.

Upon confirming it was the Waist-breaking Ghost, Munan cald down instead. What worried her more was encountering sothing else terrifying. Tonight’s tasks were urgent, leaving no room for surprises.

Retracting her gaze, she closed the door slightly, hiding behind it while quietly waiting for the Waist-breaking Ghost to leave.

The appearance of the Waist-breaking Ghost wasn’t necessarily bad. According to Zhou Mingxiao’s experience, they could follow the Waist-breaking Ghost tonight, using it to shield themselves, and thereby avoid those burnt ghosts, which were truly unpredictable and difficult to guard against.

Listening to the rubbing sounds coming to the door but not stopping, continuing further down the corridor, Munan calculated the distance and quietly opened a crack in the door, peering in the direction the Waist-breaking Ghost left.

This view shocked Munan with cold sweat. The Waist-breaking Ghost, bent backwards, had a piece of torn clothing draped over it.

The strange clothing lay across the Waist-breaking Ghost’s upper body, coincidentally covering half of its face. Most startling was Munan recognizing the clothing—it was Chen Nang’s coat!

But how did Chen Nang’s coat end up on the Waist-breaking Ghost—could it an he t with misfortune?

After a brief panic, Munan forced herself to calm down, aware of Chen Nang’s abilities: it was unlikely he’d fall at the hands of the Waist-breaking Ghost.

In other words, even if he died, it should be by the Hanging Ghost, since his task was to steal the paper from her pocket tonight.

Composing her mind, Munan observed more closely. As the Waist-breaking Ghost’s upper body swung behind, she saw the clothing wasn’t just draped on its body; it was wrapped around its neck, the sleeves tied into a noticeable knot.

This was deliberate; soone had intentionally done it. It was Chen Nang, who dared approach the Waist-breaking Ghost and tie the jacket sleeves around its neck!

Even just imagining the process was enough to send chills down one’s spine.

As for the purpose, Munan guessed correctly. This Waist-breaking Ghost searched with its scarlet eyes, and Chen Nang had actually thought to block its vision with clothing.

"A lunatic..." Munan always thought she was bold enough, but compared to Chen Nang, she was nothing. Was he not afraid of death?

Judging just from the outco, Chen Nang’s plan only semi-succeeded, blocking half of the Waist-breaking Ghost’s face, and until now, Chen Nang hadn’t appeared.
