This deathly silence made Zhang Jianjun feel a subtle sense of unease.

Just as he was about to retract his gaze and look down at the building, an unexpected event occurred: Shu Shuang’s... Shu Shuang’s body had disappeared, leaving the area in front of the building completely empty.

"Where’s the body?!" At this mont, a chill ran down Zhang Jianjun’s spine. What’s more terrifying than a ghost appearing? It’s a ghost, or a corpse, disappearing without a trace.

Zhang Jianjun imdiately looked around to search for the body, and soon he found it. However, to his horror, the body had moved, now closer to him, positioned at the base of a stairway.

Due to the distance and insufficient lighting, Zhang Jianjun could only make out a vague outline. The body’s posture was different from before; this ti, its upper body was facing in his direction.

It gave the impression that the body had crawled all the way over there, in just the minute Zhang Jianjun had looked away.

An anomaly had occurred, and Zhang Jianjun harbored no illusions. He understood perfectly that this thing was targeting him, so he decisively chose to retreat.

After all, he was an experienced player. When he decided to hide near the building tonight, Zhang Jianjun had already mapped out an escape route, as a precautionary asure.

Claiming he wasn’t afraid would be a lie, but he was not about to panic, as panic is useless and only leads to a quicker death.

Following his earlier plan, Zhang Jianjun decided to retreat. Although the route he chose seed longer, it was safer, with much better visibility.

He started off walking briskly, then broke into a run, occasionally glancing back. This ti, the body did not follow but stayed sprawled and motionless where it was.

"Go back first. Not to my own place, just head straight to Zhou Hai’s. This way, even if I’m targeted by a ghost, I can use him as a shield," Zhang Jianjun calculated on the run, as this was part of his plan.

For safety’s sake, Zhang Jianjun didn’t even attempt to hail a car. After all, he couldn’t be sure if the driver would be human or a ghost.

In such circumstances, apart from his team mbers, he couldn’t trust any stranger because he couldn’t ascertain their identity.

In other words, now outside Rongjin Building, there was only one person Zhang Jianjun could trust—Zhou Hai.

Additionally, Zhou Hai was a newcor, easier to deceive. During their previous interactions, they had built a basic level of trust, and Zhou Hai could be said to follow his every command.

Fortunately, Zhou Hai’s residence was not far from there. Zhang Jianjun was in good physical shape, so it would take just over ten minutes jogging to reach it.

Zhang Jianjun left the square outside Rongjin Building and ran towards the neighborhood where Zhou Hai lived.

All along the way, Zhang Jianjun felt like he was being watched. Initially, he was highly alert, focusing on navigating, and didn’t pay much attention. But soon, he sensed sothing was wrong. He stopped and looked back.

He stood by the roadside, where cars occasionally passed. His gaze slowly swept over the path he had run, but then he abruptly froze. Across the street, there was a billboard, but it was dark, apparently experiencing so internal lighting issue.

But how could that be? Not long ago, he had passed under that billboard; it had been lit, and he rembered the advertisent and the actress on it clearly.

Upon closer inspection, he noticed a shadow in a right-side corner beneath the billboard, as if sothing were hidden there.

Squinting to see clearly, a passing car’s headlights briefly lit up the shadowy spot. At that mont, Zhang Jianjun felt a chill down his spine. There was soone squatting in the shadows—headless.

"It really... followed !" From the general body outline, it looked like Shu Shuang, who had fallen to her death, but he couldn’t be sure. In any case, it was undoubtedly a terrifying ghostly presence.

This place was so distance from Rongjin Building. Since the ghost could track him here, it ant he had been marked, making escape futile tonight. His only chance was to find a substitute death.

With this realization, Zhang Jianjun hesitated no longer, imdiately turning and sprinting towards Zhou Hai’s neighborhood.

The sense of being watched from behind grew stronger, and he knew without looking that the ghost was closing in.

Finally, he reached Zhou Hai’s neighborhood. To save ti, he even climbed over the wall, which was fortunately low.

"Building 13... Building 13..." Zhang Jianjun anxiously searched through the old neighborhood, where disrepair had left many streetlights dark. The atmosphere was eerie, but luckily his fortune held. He soon found the number 13 on the side of a five-story building with peeling paint.

This was it!

Zhang Jianjun dashed over. There were two unit doors, both the kind of old-style iron doors painted a low-saturation blue, half open, with paint chipping off to reveal rusty spots.

Zhou Hai lived in Unit 2, Room 601. Just before dashing into the entrance, Zhang Jianjun looked back to see that the body had gotten even closer, having followed him into the neighborhood, now squatting at an intersection he had just passed, hidden in the shadow.

Fear was no longer a priority; survival instincts overpowered everything. Zhang Jianjun raced all the way to the fifth floor, where the corridor lights were voice-activated, illuminating as he ascended.

Recognizing the door number, Zhang Jianjun knocked, not loudly, but enough for Zhou Hai inside to hear.
