The sound of footsteps in the water echoed behind her, not loud, not frequent, but very fast. Yamamoto Chunai used all her strength and still couldn’t shake off the pursuer.
At this mont, Yamamoto Chunai was facing the sa situation as Ogawa Haruka last night.
Now she had only two choices: either change direction, finding the nearest building to hide, or take a gamble, use all her strength to run toward the underground passage.
But Yamamoto Chunai had a critical advantage over Ogawa Haruka; she had intelligence in hand, that crucial map.
With the map, Yamamoto Chunai knew it was impossible for her to reach the entrance to the underground passage before being caught by the Water Ghost, so she decisively abandoned her original plan and ran towards the nearest buildings marked on the map.
This ti she was quite lucky. Before the sound of footsteps behind caught up to her, she rushed out of the fog, slamd open a slightly ajar door, and dashed into a building that looked like a church.
It was clearly an old and neglected place, the surroundings were chaotic and dilapidated, there was no light source, and a cool, eerie glow filled the area.
The situation was urgent, Yamamoto Chunai had no ti for a detailed observation. She nearly fell over, taking advantage of the mont when her body hit the ground, she rolled and crawled under the nearest long table.
The next second, the door she had slamd shut was banged open, as it wasn’t locked after all.
If Yamamoto Chunai had the ti to observe carefully, she would have noticed that the lock was also broken and forced open.
Hiding under the table, Yamamoto Chunai covered her mouth, not daring to breathe heavily. From her angle, she could just see a pair of dripping wet legs.

The Water Ghost walked stiffly into the church. As the angle changed, she eventually saw the Water Ghost’s true appearance.
Previously, she was simply terrified by the sound of water footsteps, fleeing in panic during the chase and not daring to look back, fearing the terrifying sight would weaken her legs.
Now she saw clearly, it was a girl, not very old, dressed in a light sports outfit, drenched through, with wet long hair hanging in strands, stuck tightly to her face, as if just pulled out from water.
That pale face, with slightly yellowish, milky white pupils, was filled with extre indifference and eeriness.

The Water Ghost walked step by step further into the church, with the change of angle, Yamamoto Chunai saw that the Water Ghost carried an umbrella.
The umbrella didn’t match the Water Ghost’s attire. The Water Ghost gave the impression of a young, vibrant girl, but the umbrella was an unadulterated antique.
The umbrella surface was old and dilapidated, like it was made of paper, with holes revealing the bamboo ribs inside supporting it.
For so reason, the first feeling this umbrella gave Yamamoto Chunai was very bad; she felt, for a mont, that this thing was alive.

Very quickly, the Water Ghost approached Yamamoto Chunai’s hiding spot, those milky white eyes almost motionless, but definitely from its angle could see soone hid under the table.
But the Water Ghost just walked step by step away, not touching Yamamoto Chunai, who was so close.
Before she could breathe a sigh of relief, the sound of footsteps gradually moving away returned, stopping not far behind her this ti.
Gazing at the raised, thin shadow on the floor, Yamamoto Chunai trembled with tension.
She clearly rembered that shadow wasn’t there before, which ant the Water Ghost was closer than she’d imagined, standing right behind her.
And that wasn’t all; the raised shadow on the ground began to lower inch by inch. At that mont, Yamamoto Chunai nearly broke down, tears swirling in her eyes. She knew what it ant; the Water Ghost behind was slowly crouching down or bending over.
The ghost had found her; she was exposed!!
Yamamoto Chunai’s first reaction was to run, to run right away, but this almost instinctive reaction was forcibly suppressed by her, her mind surprisingly calm at this mont.
Now, even if she ran, where could she flee? Not to ntion if she had a chance to run out of the church; even if she did leave, what would that accomplish?
Without the building’s protection, she’d be instantly caught and killed by the Water Ghost, with no chance of survival.
Understanding this, Yamamoto Chunai gritted her teeth, closed her eyes, and stayed motionless, deciding to take a gamble.
Mont by mont passed, maybe ten seconds, maybe longer, until the sound of splashing water footsteps behind her gradually faded away. Yamamoto Chunai suddenly opened her eyes, like a drowning person finally surfacing, gasping for air.
It was also at this mont that Yamamoto Chunai fully realized that this Water Ghost was like the ghost passengers who boarded and alighted from the train; they couldn’t "see" stationary people.
As long as you don’t move, you won’t die.
anwhile, another doubt took root in her heart. For now, it seed this Water Ghost wasn’t that terrifying. If even she could find a pattern to survive, then the experienced Ogawa Haruka had even less reason to have died here last night.
Yamamoto Chunai speculated; either the Water Ghost had other unknown thods, or there was another ghost wandering nearby.
And just the next second, her speculation beca reality. The Water Ghost, having not found anyone, didn’t leave but stood behind the door, slowly lifting its arm and, in a posture impossible for any living human, "pulled" out that umbrella from its back.
