"I appreciate the gesture, but it’s unnecessary; we just need to do things by the book," Yang Xiao thanked Wu Zhe first, knowing that this matter involved Resentful Eye and was no small issue. As long as the investigation was fair, it would be enough for Boss Wu to end up in a cell.
Wu Zhe shrugged. "Fine, we’ll do it your way."
The case wasn’t complicated. After understanding the general situation, Wu Zhe greeted everyone and then started wrapping things up with the team. Once they were gone, Yang Xiao took out his phone, planning to contact Zhao and tell him there were results, but Zhao called him first.
The mont the call connected, Zhao told him that Boss Wu had just reached out through soone to him, admitting he was green with envy and caused trouble. He had said a lot of nice things, hoping Zhao could let him off the hook and not blow the matter up, to which Zhao had agreed.
"How could you agree to that?" Yang Xiao frowned, his tone getting heavier. "Zhao, setting up a Nightmare Array isn’t child’s play; it could easily cost lives. Don’t be swayed by his sweet talk; he’s scared now. If this gets confird, it’s a cri!"
"Little Yang, I understand what you’re saying, but he went through a senior figure in the industry who owes a favor; I couldn’t just snub him. Besides, I’m tired of the ongoing dispute between our two businesses these days. It’s better to spare soone when you can. Is that okay?" Zhao’s words carried a hint of pleading.
Ultimately, this was Zhao’s issue, and Yang Xiao didn’t feel it was his place to make a decision for him. After a mont’s thought, however, he still offered so advice. "A truce is fine, but he must pay a price. Without a lesson, this kind of person will just cause trouble again in the future."
"I know. Boss Wu has arranged to et with at his place to discuss it in detail. I’m getting ready to go now; I know how to negotiate to our advantage." Zhao had already secretly decided to give Yang Xiao a portion of the shares from several script stores he owned, as a technical partnership, with no investnt required from Yang Xiao.
Yang Xiao didn’t catch the change in Zhao’s wording. When he heard that Boss Wu had invited Zhao over, he imdiately felt wary. The value of Resentful Eye was not lost on Yang Xiao; even the lower grade Resentful Eyes fetched serious money on the market. Was such a huge investnt really just to target a small script store owner like Zhao?
The matter returned to his initial judgnt; Yang Xiao suspected there was sothing more behind this, possibly even targeting him.
This so-called Boss Wu was rely a puppet, with soone else pulling the strings, providing the Resentful Eye.
If this hypothesis held true, then Zhao walking into Boss Wu’s house tonight would be like walking into a trap. Realizing this, Yang Xiao urgently halted Zhao, who was about to drive over. He proposed to take Zhao’s place in the talks, and trusting Yang Xiao, Zhao readily agreed, sharing the address and contact details of Boss Wu’s place with him.
After getting the information he needed, Yang Xiao asked Zhao to lie low for the night and wait for his update. He then found Li Qingxuan’s na in his contacts and made a call. It only rang a few tis before it was answered.
"Teacher Yang?" Li Qingxuan’s voice ca through the phone, surprised and pleased. "What’s up calling so late?"
"I have a favor to ask you, but..." Yang Xiao hesitated for a mont before adding, "your side sounds... pretty lively."
At that, Li Qingxuan’s voice turned bitter as he went on about having just been through a breakup and now drowning his sorrows in drink with so friends.
As soon as he finished, Yang Xiao heard a flirty voice on the other end, "Mr. Li~~, I want to play the Ace of Spades~~"
Yang Xiao: "..."
"Go away, I’m talking to my brother here," Li Qingxuan cleared his throat, shooing the girl away before taking the phone back up, chuckling awkwardly. "Uh... Teacher Yang, go ahead, I’m not busy. Just hanging out with friends, you know how it goes."
Ignoring these minor details, Yang Xiao requested Li Qingxuan’s help to secretly protect Zhao, while he himself intended to see what ga Boss Wu was playing.
Calling in Li Qingxuan was a well-considered move; firstly, he and Zhao had always had a good relationship, being old friends familiar with each other’s background. Secondly, Yang Xiao had checked Li Qingxuan’s background himself, finding it clean, and his capabilities were not bad. Despite his easygoing deanor most of the ti, he packed power close to Captain Level, just that he was naturally freedom-loving and stayed out of trouble.
Zhao was just an ordinary person, and it was unlikely the opposition would send any formidable experts against him, so Li Qingxuan alone should be able to handle it.
Upon hearing soone might make a move on Zhao, Li Qingxuan agreed to take action imdiately, knowing where Zhao lived.
"Thanks, I appreciate it," Yang Xiao said in gratitude.
With his concerns for Zhao addressed, Yang Xiao set out, following the address given by Zhao. Boss Wu’s ho was in the opulent Rhein Town villa complex in the City Heart District, where land was worth its weight in gold. Only upon standing outside the gate did Yang Xiao realize he had underestimated Boss Wu.
Since it was late at night, most of the villas in the community had their lights off, with only Boss Wu’s remaining lit.
Standing outside the gate, Yang Xiao called Boss Wu’s phone, but after a long ring, no one picked up. The unease in his heart intensifying, Yang Xiao stopped hesitating and walked straight into the villa. The door was unlocked, opening with a gentle push; the voice of the TV echoed from the living room. An old cartoon played on the wall-mounted TV, and several people sat in a row on the sofa, motionless, backs to Yang Xiao, as if watching the show.
