Nikke, something’s seriously wrong with this evacuation point! Chapter 107 107: This Isn’t That Kind of Setting!
At that mont, Dorothy, Snow White, and Rapunzel were leisurely drinking tea together on the bridge of the Wings of Victory.
Beside Dorothy, a vinyl record player softly played classical jazz. The atmosphere on the bridge felt so relaxed it was practically like a holiday.
Every year around the end of the year, during the period when Liliweiss underwent maintenance and inspection, the Goddess Squad was relatively free. At the very least, they no longer had to rush around the battlefield putting out fires everywhere.
After all, winter wasn't exactly easy terrain for the Raptures either.
And humanity had it even worse.
"Um… Dorothy." Holding her teacup carefully, Snow White asked hesitantly, "Is it really okay to just let them keep doing this?"
"It's fine. Red Hood seems to be having fun, so let them play." Dorothy elegantly lifted her teacup. "Liliweiss's maintenance hasn't finished yet. Until she returns, this counts as vacation ti."
"…I've never seen Red Hood enjoy fighting this much before." Snow White puffed out her cheeks and muttered unhappily.
As she spoke, she turned her head slightly toward another area of the ship.
The guest quarters.
Lieutenant Barnes was currently staying there. No matter what anyone said, he absolutely refused to go back down to the surface again.
His ntal state was… concerning.
And yet the Nikkes responsible for driving him into that state were still happily living at the surface base.
In fact, every single day, they cleared out a section of land and let Scarlet and Red Hood–the two Nikkes whose nas happened to be associated with the color "Red"–beat the hell out of each other inside a designated area.
At this point… it could only really be described as a brawl.
Neither of them used the combat style they were actually best at.
Scarlet fought with rigid precision, relying on practical technique and discipline.
Red Hood, anwhile, was the complete opposite.
Pure street fighting.
Pure instinct.
She fought however she felt like fighting.
And yet, thanks to her absurd natural strength, she sohow managed to stay evenly matched with Scarlet.
But because they were evenly matched, neither of them was willing to admit defeat after collapsing together.
After a round of extrely "friendly" verbal exchanges, the two decided to rest up and fight again later.
At this point, even Rose–who had originally been filled with resentnt–felt like she had nowhere left to direct it.
This was the first ti she had ever seen Scarlet act like this.
Red Hood was a chatterbox. She never stopped running her mouth while fighting.
Scarlet, on the other hand, was usually quiet and stoic.
But anyone would eventually get irritated after being yapped at nonstop.
And so, their proper duel would inevitably devolve into both of them rolling around on the ground pulling each other's hair.
Wait.
No, hold on.
This setting isn't supposed to work like this!
You're supposed to exchange profound martial techniques and elbow strikes, then get more and more fired up as the fight goes on. Occasionally one of you reveals a hidden trump card and the two of you clash in an enormous energy collision. Then, at the perfect dramatic mont, you both unleash your ultimate attacks before collapsing onto the ground together, acknowledging one another as worthy rivals and peacefully reconciling through mutual respect!
Why are you two just pulling each other's hair?!
This worldbuilding does NOT work like this!
I refuse to accept it!
Thankfully, both of them still had at least so sense of dignity.
Once the hair-pulling phase started, it usually ant the fight was basically over. After struggling stubbornly for another ten seconds or so, they would simultaneously let go–
and imdiately schedule the next fight.
A few minutes later, a transport aircraft landed on the deck of the Wings of Victory.
Red Hood walked out looking filthy and disheveled, baring her teeth from pain, yet enthusiastically waving toward the bridge with a bright grin plastered across her face.
Dorothy rely glanced at her calmly.
"Clean the dirt off yourself before entering the bridge."
anwhile, on the surface–
"Scar, does it hurt anywhere?" Rose hurried over anxiously, but after seeing Scarlet's nearly unchanged expression, she suddenly felt like she was overreacting.
"Sister, don't worry." Scarlet answered expressionlessly. "I've already more or less figured out that woman's fighting patterns. Next ti, I'll definitely beat her until she flees in tears."
"Wow… Scarlet is amazing. She actually fought Red Hood to a draw…"
"If that's the case, maybe the Goddess Squad isn't as unbeatable as we imagined…"
"You all should stop overthinking things." Rose had no choice but to interrupt the other Nikkes' whispering. "Lady Red Hood wasn't fighting seriously at all. That giant rifle of hers can pierce straight through both the armor and core of a Lord-class Rapture."
"My sword can do that too," Scarlet interrupted.
"Yes, yes, I know you can." After soothing one group of children, Rose now had to soothe another one. "But that's not the point right now. Be good and go eat sothing and rest."
Her ntal stress was starting to rise again.
But if it was this kind of stress…
then perhaps she was enjoying it despite herself.
And just like that, another day passed.
...
Wings of Victory – Bridge
Red Hood was just rubbing her hands together, preparing to board the transport aircraft and head down to the surface again, when Snow White suddenly let out a puzzled sound.
"Everyone… it seems soone is approaching."
"A person? Not a Nikke? Not a Rapture?" Red Hood imdiately asked.
"It's a human." Snow White quickly enlarged the screen.
On the monitor, a lone figure could clearly be seen sprinting through the forest at incredible speed toward the camp.
"That's strange…" Snow White frowned. "His speed hasn't dropped at all."
"Oh? Maybe he's so kind of marathon champion?" Red Hood looked at the screen. It really was a human male–wearing an officer's uniform. "Hey, isn't that military attire? Army personnel?"
"I'm pulling up his records now." Snow White continued operating the system as she explained. "No, sothing's wrong with his condition. Even a well-trained human shouldn't be able to maintain speed this close to the human limit for such a long ti. His lungs wouldn't withstand it."
"So what's your conclusion, Snow White?" Dorothy asked without even turning around.
"…I don't know." Snow White shook her head.
Then her pupils shifted slightly.
"Ah, the results are here… Rank: Second Lieutenant. Na: Ron."
"Second Lieutenant Ron?" Dorothy finally turned around. "Isn't that the one Liliweiss ntioned before?"
"Hm? From the lee squad … no, wait. Their commander should be Lieutenant Barnes, right? Then who exactly is this Lieutenant Ron?" Rapunzel fell into thought.
"Interesting." Red Hood grinned. "In any case, let go et him."
She turned and walked toward the deck.
"I'm off. Don't miss too much~"
"I hope you can resolve this situation quickly," Dorothy said calmly. "If this drags on any longer, Liliweiss will beco troubled."
"Then why don't you go?" Red Hood crossed her arms and protested loudly. "You should try fighting that woman yourself soti!"
"Absolutely not. I dislike barbaric behavior." Dorothy smiled elegantly. "Combat should be graceful while effortlessly annihilating the opponent."
"Yes… just like Liliweiss."
This woman really couldn't go three sentences without ntioning Liliweiss.
