Nikke, something’s seriously wrong with this evacuation point! Chapter 12 12: Can You Do That Again?
This was the first ti Charon witnessed the true power of the so-called "battleship" he had casually ntioned.
Visually, it was so exaggerated that he didn't even know what to say. Could human technology really compress such power into a body the size of a person?
The mountain-sized body began to collapse. That strike hadn't rely split it, it had completely shattered it.
With another sonic boom, the owner of that overwhelming power appeared beside Charon.
She landed lightly. Her control over strength was flawless, like a dragonfly touching water, not a single visible mark was left on the ground.
"So, what do you think? Compared to what you imagined… which version of is cooler?"
She turned slightly, blinked at him playfully, her star-like eyes smiling. She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and leaned forward just a little, as if expecting sothing, fully revealing her flawless face.
But Charon could see it, her hands behind her back were trembling slightly.
She was nervous.
No matter how many indirect exchanges they had, no matter what Charon had said before, only a real eting could give her an answer.
Liliweiss. The first NIKKE. The future Goddess of Victory.
And yet, right now, she stood there like a nervous girl, waiting for his judgnt.
In a sense, her entire future depended on his reaction at this mont.
Charon stepped forward without the slightest hesitation.
Then, as Liliweiss grew even more tense, he gently took her hand — that seemingly soft hand, which could crush sothing the size of a mountain with a single punch.
His action startled her. It was her first ti having such close contact with a man. Instinctively, she tried to pull away, but for so reason, the hand capable of destroying Tyrant-class Raptures allowed him to hold it without resistance.
"D-don't touch… it's… dirty right now…"
Her voice grew quieter.
"Hmm… can you do that again?"
Charon's eyes sparkled with excitent.
"That thing just now — smashing a mountain with one punch… okay, maybe that's exaggerated, but wiping out a bunch of Raptures in one hit should be doable, right?"!
"Ah… um… but…"
"You were too far away just now, I couldn't see it clearly! That was insane–no, seriously, that was amazing! How many tons was that punch? And that was humanity's first ti destroying 'Gluttony'! That's basically history-book material!"
Charon leaned in closer, excited.
"Next ti you fight, can I get closer and watch? I want to experience that kind of raw power up close."
He didn't even realize he was still holding her hand.
His hand was much larger, completely enclosing her fist. Even through the glove, Liliweiss could feel his warmth.
At so point, her hand had stopped trembling. It simply rested quietly in his palm, with no intention of pulling away.
As the first NIKKE, she possessed unimaginable power, yet it caused her no trouble in daily life. Her control was absolute. If she wanted, she could fail to open a bottle cap… or destroy a building with one punch.
With such precision, she could interact normally with anyone.
But none of the researchers had ever dared to hold her hand.
And yet Charon held it firmly, completely unaware, or uncaring, that she was a machine capable of killing anyone. His attention remained fixed on one thing: her strength.
She turned her head away. She couldn't et his eager gaze for long, otherwise she might run away on the spot.
A faint smile crept onto her lips as she whispered, only for him to hear:
"Idiot… if you get too close… you'll be blown away…"
Yeah… that was true.
It wasn't that Charon wasn't afraid, of course he was. His knowledge of NIKKE Liliweiss ca only from exaggerated praise. Seeing it firsthand was overwhelming beyond words.
The only difference between him and others… was his system.
Even if he died, he would simply respawn back at his base.
But more importantly, he had seen her before all this. He knew how desperate she had been. And he believed she would never harm him.
Liliweiss's ears turned slightly red. She quickly pulled her hand away and looked toward the distant remains of Gluttony, trying to hide her flustered state.
But the next second, her gaze froze.
"What… is that?" she murmured.
From the corpse of Gluttony, a silver river burst forth, quickly flooding the valley into a shimring sea.
More importantly, everything it touched, plants, animals, even fragnts of Gluttony itself, slowly sank into it, like being swallowed by a swamp.
"No wonder it's called 'Gluttony'."Charon stared at the liquid.
"Without a powerful digestion system, it couldn't consu so much. Liliweiss, have you seen anything like that before?"
"No…" Her expression turned serious."First ti."
"Well, no one's ever killed one before." Charon shrugged.
"Let's record this. For now, we'll call it… 'digestive fluid.'"
He tapped his headset. The earlier interference still hadn't cleared, so communication hadn't resud. He gave up, deciding to inform Rose later.
The two stood on the cliff, watching the liquid below.
As Charon expected, after consuming all of Gluttony's remains, the silver fluid flowed back underground through the hole it had erged from, and disappeared.
"So… there's more than one Gluttony?" Liliweiss asked.
"No idea," Charon replied.
"If it were truly dead, this stuff would've stayed here as a river. The fact it all went back ans sothing is controlling it."
"I suspect it's not dead at all. What you destroyed might've been just a part of it… or a fragnt."
"Well, enough boring talk." Charon turned back and extended his hand. "Let's go."
"W-where?" Though confused, Liliweiss placed her hand into his.
"To loot, of course."
"Loot?" She looked at the now-empty ground in confusion.
From her perspective, there was nothing there.
But in Charon's vision, where the smaller Raptures had been, several loot boxes were clearly visible.
That discovery excited him.
So even here, enemies dropped loot.
So this is what "Disguise Mode" is like.
Yeah… this is aweso.
