Nikke, something’s seriously wrong with this evacuation point! Chapter 14 14: Every Inch of Her Skin Is Worth More Than You
Nothing happened that night.
If you asked what occurred, the answer would be: nothing at all. In essence, from the mont they t to the ti they shared a al, they hadn't even spent a full day together.
Charon stayed up late just figuring out how to write the report in a way that wouldn't sound too shocking. As for Liliweiss, she didn't even need sleep for the ti being—she was a Nikke now.
By the next day, things returned to normal operations. As the current "final boss," 'Gluttony' was sothing that could have posed a massive threat to a city, but Liliweiss had eliminated it in a single move. The rest were nothing more than small fry.
In the forest.
"Commander."
With a casual wave of her hand, Liliweiss shredded more than a dozen Raptures into pieces. She didn't even glance at the remains before continuing forward, speaking into her comms.
"The number of Raptures hasn't changed significantly. That doesn't match the intelligence we received."
"Yes."
Keeping so distance from her, Charon followed behind, looting the remains she left behind as he walked.
The problem with Raptures was that their weapons were fused with their bodies, so they didn't drop usable gear. Up to now, Charon still hadn't obtained a proper primary weapon, aside from his dagger, he had basically no offensive capability. So all he could do was trail behind Liliweiss and pick up scraps.
Honestly, what's the difference between this and having a maxed-out tank leading the way? She clears everything in front, and he just collects the rewards. Liliweiss truly needed no further praise.
"The main Rapture force has completely disappeared from observable range. I thought after yesterday's tremor, 'Gluttony' would be followed by a large-scale invasion… but nothing happened. From that perspective, its appearance was likely just an accident."
"An accident?"
Liliweiss tilted her head, casually kicking a Servant-class Rapture to death without even blinking.
"Yeah… you don't need to worry about that."
"O-okay!"
Was Charon supposed to tell her that 'Gluttony' had likely been drawn here because of her?
'Gluttony's' instinct was to pursue high-energy targets. That was how it defended Rapture territory and devoured ballistic missiles.
And the only explanation for why it appeared here… was that it had been attracted by Liliweiss's power.
As the first—and strongest—Nikke, her energy was basically perfect bait.
Unfortunately for it… her strength exceeded its expectations.
Who could have predicted she'd one-shot the strongest Rapture alive?
And so, the two of them continued forward, clearing Raptures along the way as they advanced toward the front lines.
The main objective of the test had already been completed. Next, they were to rendezvous with the frontline army and receive unified command.
However, Charon's role as commander wouldn't change. Nikkes and commanders functioned as a unit—the commander received orders, while the Nikke acted as the weapon.
At present, the issue of Nikke rights hadn't yet beco widespread. Since she was the only one, she was still treated as a "special enhanced agent", a unique type of soldier.
Three days later, they arrived at the frontline city.
"City" was a generous term. It had already been destroyed once by Raptures—what remained was little more than ruins. After the military took over, it beca a restricted zone, only minimally repaired to prepare for the next wave of attacks.
The vehicle stopped at a checkpoint, and a soldier approached.
"Please show your identification."
"How's the situation on the front lately?" Charon asked casually as he took out his ID.
"Pretty quiet," the soldier replied, going through routine checks. "Raptures haven't launched any large-scale attacks for a while. Not sure what they're planning. I'd guess they're scared. Looks like we might reclaim our territory soon."
"..."
Charon almost said sothing, but stopped. Looking around, he saw hopeful expressions on nearly every soldier's face. Morale was high.
But Raptures weren't an enemy you could defeat with morale alone.
"Alright, Commander Charon, you may proceed."
The soldier returned the ID and signaled to open the gate.
"Wait."
A voice ca from outside the passenger side.
Charon turned his head and saw a stern-looking officer staring fixedly at Liliweiss.
"She… is Liliweiss?"
There was clear doubt in his tone. The surrounding soldiers imdiately fell silent, and even the air grew heavy.
Liliweiss kept her gaze forward, expression calm.
"Yes. Is there a problem?"
As the tension rose, Charon's voice cut through it:
"May I ask your na, officer?"
A commander's status wasn't absolute, but it wasn't sothing any random officer could trample either.
"Federal Colonel Alex."
He didn't even look at Charon, his eyes still fixed on Liliweiss.
"These days, even weapons get to sit in the passenger seat? She should be registered through the cargo channel and await orders in the armory."
Charon's gaze turned cold.
He knew people like this existed in the military, but he hadn't expected trouble before even entering the city.
"Watch your tone, Colonel. She is my soldier."
"Recruit Charon, it seems your brain is still stuck in kindergarten. This is a battlefield. She is military property. Just like all the experintal weapons, weapons belong in the armory."
"You're the one who doesn't understand the situation."
Charon glanced sideways at him.
"Do you even know who she is?"
Without waiting for an answer, Charon grabbed Liliwiss's hand and held it up, pointing at her slender fingers.
"She is the prototype Nikke that the military spent an unimaginable budget on for an entire year. Every inch of her skin is worth more than your entire lifeti pension, combined. Got it?"
"And now you're telling to throw sothing this valuable into the armory? The inspection systems there can't even handle her body. If your violation causes even a 0.1% performance loss—who's taking responsibility? You or ?"
As Charon firmly held her hand and forced Alex into silence–
In a place no one noticed, Liliweiss was smiling.
She tried her best to maintain a calm expression, but her star-like eyes were already shining brightly.
And deep within them… there was only his figure.
