Nikke, something’s seriously wrong with this evacuation point! Chapter 16 16: He Doesn’t Need an Inspection
The orbital elevator, also known as the space elevator, was where the Rapture army had first descended to Earth. As the records stated, if humanity wanted to cut off the Raptures' supply lines and logistics, they had to reclaim the elevator… or at least destroy it.
Unfortunately, the Tyrant-class Rapture "Gluttony" had long been stationed nearby. Any long-range attack was completely ineffective, and countless high-class Raptures densely packed the surrounding kiloters, making a direct assault nearly impossible.
But for so reason, in recent tis, the number of Raptures had dropped to a historic low. Taking advantage of the birth of the strongest Nikke, humanity decided to send Liliweiss to investigate the orbital elevator.
Humanity had already lost too much territory, and the higher-ups had lost much of their confidence. Even with a Nikke as overwhelmingly powerful as Liliweiss, their goal was rely reconnaissance, not anything further.
That kind of caution wasn't a bad thing. If they were foolish enough to expect Liliweiss to hold an entire front line alone, they might as well just run away now.
"So you really won't help write that report?"
"Write your own damn report. Get lost."
"What a sha. Oh, right, your dorm."
Andrew turned around, rummaged through a box, and pulled out a key along with a room number tag. At the sa ti, he gave a knowing grin.
"The soundproofing isn't great, by the way."
"?"
Charon narrowed his eyes as he took the key.
"Why is there only one?"
Liliweiss's mind imdiately started racing.
"Because Colonel Alex is the real authority here," Andrew shrugged. "He never planned to assign Ms. Liliweiss a separate room."
"Liliweiss… are you okay with that?"
Charon looked at the only woman present.
She wasn't just a Nikke, she was also a beautiful woman. If not for the plane crash, there would've been enough suitors to circle the city ten tis over.
Liliweiss had no objections. In fact, Alex's previously irritating face now seed slightly more tolerable.
"Ah, I–I'm fine. It's not like we can be picky right now!" she said with a bright smile.
"Good… oh right, let borrow the comms channel."
Charon suddenly rembered he hadn't reported in yet.
Andrew readily granted him access to the military satellite network. The mont it connected, dozens of ssages from the academy flooded in.
"Ah… I should apologize to Rose…"
Liliweiss looked a little guilty. Honestly, she had completely forgotten about their liaison during the journey.
"Well then, I'll take Liliweiss to the VTC people. Oh, and this report, submit it for ."
Leaving the docunt on the desk, Charon and Liliweiss walked out while making a call.
"Report?"
Andrew didn't stop them. He picked it up and glanced at it.
"Oh, Liliweiss's combat report. Let's see what kind of crazy stuff they pulled this ti."
But the mont he read it, he froze.
"Gluttony? You're kidding …"
Cold sweat ford on his face as shock and disbelief clashed within him, eventually turning into silence.
After a long while, he put the report down and took a deep breath, his expression unusually complicated.
"Well… that's unexpected."
To be honest, seeing those numbers made Andrew briefly regret giving Charon the chance to et Liliweiss. But it was only a fleeting mont of envy. His own career path was completely different from Charon's as a special operations commander. And besides, if his fiancée ever found out he was constantly around a woman as stunning as Liliweiss, his ho life would be absolute chaos. Better not.
anwhile, Charon and Liliweiss headed toward the VTC temporary research center near headquarters. It was easy to locate, wherever the generators were running the loudest, that's where the lab was.
[I'm so glad… you're safe…]
Rose's voice on the other end of the call was choked with tears.
"The communication got cut off and couldn't be restored. We only reconnected after reaching the front line,"
Charon reassured her.
"Don't worry. Even if you think I'm weak, Liliweiss is ridiculously strong. With her around, even if we ran into the Rapture Queen, she'd make sure it never returns."
He had no idea who was actually stronger, Liliweiss or the Queen, but hyping her up was good enough.
"I'm not that amazing," Liliweiss replied with a soft laugh. "If anyone defeats the Queen soday, it'll probably be the next generations of Nikkes, each stronger than the last."
Charon just listened silently. Yeah, sure.
He let Liliweiss talk to Rose while he focused on finding the way.
He had never dealt with VTC before, but clearly, the staff had been inford of their arrival in advance. After confirming their identities, they were let through imdiately.
Following a guide, they reached the deepest part of the building. Finding such an underground facility in a ruined city was quite sothing.
"Please go in. Professor Abe is waiting for you."
Their guide was a woman with short blonde hair. From the mont they t, her gaze never left Liliweiss. Her sharp-shaped eyes were filled with intense curiosity, like that of a typical obsessed scientist.
Still, she didn't act rudely or pounce on her. With a mysterious smile, she simply turned and left.
Inside, a researcher with long blonde hair stood with her back to them.
"You're here?"
The woman, Abe, turned around, glancing at Liliweiss. Her curiosity and scrutiny were even stronger than the previous woman's, yet strangely, there was nothing unsettling about it.
"Miss Liliweiss, please remove your clothes and enter that device."
The mont those words fell, Liliweiss froze mid-step.
"Re-remove… my clothes?" her voice grew quieter.
"Yes. You'll change into a specialized outfit. Don't worry, it's custom-made to perfectly fit your body."
Dark circles hung under Abe's eyes, and the coffee machine nearby made it clear she was running purely on caffeine.
"N-no, I an… the Commander, he…"
"Oh, that man?" Abe said casually. "He doesn't need to change. He doesn't require inspection."
Liliweiss fell silent.
Charon, on the other hand, found it sowhat amusing. This researcher… had quite the personality.
