Nikke, something’s seriously wrong with this evacuation point! Chapter 69 69: You are the commander of the Goddess Squad?!
At the street-corner café "Beans", it was late November. The cold wind had already begun to rage across the land, affecting both Raptures and humans to varying degrees.
During this season, exhausted people might no longer be able to enjoy fresh fruits and vegetables, but coffee beans had beco indispensable. For many, coffee was the only thing that still brought a slight sense of comfort to their bodies.
As for so-called "enhancent stimulants," in an era where population is extrely scarce–if you tell you want to make money off sothing that harms people like that, then you might as well die.
This wasn't so Arica of Earth. Governnts here didn't tolerate it–selling stimulants would get you treated as a terrorist.
Despite everything, small cafés still stubbornly existed in the corners of the world.
And in many cases, they had also replaced bars, becoming places where people secretly t.
Abe's mood was extrely complicated. Even now, her mind was like a stormy sea. She even briefly wondered if soone had surgically altered a man's face to deceive her–but in the next instant, she dismissed the idea.
Out of the people who knew about their connection, only a handful–maybe single digits–still remained.
And none of them would waste their ti playing such a joke on her.
So the possibilities narrowed down to just two or three people.
Especially when she cald down and combined her understanding of that man's past behavior, his actions, and the consequences he had caused, she gradually understood why he had co to see her.
She knocked on the private room door and entered directly, closing it behind her and cutting off the noise of the outside world.
The room was comfortably warm. She took off her hat and coat, hanging them on the rack, revealing a body that had long been hidden under her lab coat–an elegant figure rarely noticed by others.
"Professor Abe… looks like back then I really was blinded," ca a familiar voice from inside. "I didn't even notice what I should have noticed."
"Shut up. That kind of line creates misunderstandings," Abe suppressed her emotions and sat down expressionlessly, stretching slightly–only making her presence more noticeable.
"I didn't say anything wrong. If I hadn't been misled by that woman, I would've discovered the truth long ago–and none of those later events would've happened," Charon said with a smile.
"You better really an that," Abe muttered, arms crossed, her curves emphasized by the motion. "You weren't this slick back then. What, did you spend five years hanging around delinquents?"
"And…" she looked at the quiet silver-haired girl eating a sandwich beside him. "Is this your result from the past few years?"
"Don't joke. You know I don't have a kid," Charon said, patting the girl's head. "I found her on the outskirts of that city a month ago."
The only city that fit the tiline was the one recently devastated by Raptures. Abe fell silent–this was clearly not a topic for jokes.
"Let's talk about specifics later," Charon said. "First, let introduce myself. Ron. Candidate Commander. Currently still don't know which unit I'm assigned to."
"…Are you serious?" Abe studied his expression. "You know Liliweiss has been looking for you for five years."
"I know. It's human nature," Charon replied calmly. "But you should understand–that was just a form of psychological self-healing."
"In normal circumstances, no ordinary person could survive that situation. Liliweiss probably just couldn't accept that you were dead," Abe said, her gaze shifting. "I'm curious–how exactly did you survive? Don't tell you've got sothing to do with Raptures like that woman?"
"…Your imagination is impressive. Aren't you supposed to be a scientist?"
"Who said scientists don't need imagination?" Abe rested her cheek on her hand, stirring her coffee without drinking it. "Well, you don't seem like a traitor. Otherwise, you would've handed Liliweiss over back then."
The room fell silent. Although they weren't close in the past, they were at least compatible conversationally.
"I'm serious," Abe said, pointing her spoon at him. "If you were to command the Goddess Squad, their results would be far more brilliant than now. Do you realize? Because of strategic failures, even though they've slowed humanity's territorial loss, more and more people are starting to question whether the Goddess Squad is just a staged performance by higher-ups."
"They need a decisive, overwhelming victory to restore humanity's morale."
"So I said, your imagination is too rich," Charon replied with a "what are you even talking about" expression. "Do you really think I can just open my mouth and Liliweiss will suddenly output ten tis her power and wipe out all Raptures?"
"…Fair enough," Abe sighed, feeling slightly overwheld.
The two of them continued talking back and forth, seemingly rambling, but anyone–even a child–could understand the underlying aning.
And the girl beside them, Ana, had stopped eating her sandwich a full minute ago.
She had just heard sothing unbelievable.
The commander of the Goddess Squad that Liliweiss had been searching for… was Charon?
Although this was already sowhat of an "open secret" among fans of the Goddess Squad, since the commander technically didn't exist in official records, most people treated it as part of Liliweiss's character setup.
In most people's eyes, Liliweiss herself was the commander of the Goddess Squad.
If it were just random chatter, Ana would've ignored it completely–but this person was an official researcher from VTC. Even if it was only the fourth developnt division, it was still a governnt entity.
That made it highly credible.
Even if it was nonsense, what would be the point of lying to her? She already trusted Charon completely.
Her pupils shook, her scalp tingled, and her entire expression froze in shock.
She sat there completely petrified.
