Sophie looked up sowhat surprised; she couldn’t fathom Asher Land’s emotions at the mont. Maybe he was angry, but he was still trying hard to restrain himself, not letting himself lose his temper.
"Asher Land..." she called his na cautiously, her words carrying a hint of appeasent.
"I’m not pushing you to other won; I just hope that during this period, you can help Irene recuperate a bit. If not for her this ti... I’m afraid I would have been assaulted, raped, and..."
Before she could finish her words, Asher Land turned around and placed his slender index finger on her lips, "Don’t say it."
He pulled her into his arms. Sophie leaned against his chest, quietly feeling his strong and powerful heartbeat.
"I know what to do now."
In the evening, it was Asher Land who personally delivered Irene Morton’s al to her room.
"Brother Asher,..." Irene was a bit surprised. This was the first ti he brought her a al. To be honest, she felt sowhat flattered.
Asher Land placed the al on a small dining table beside her. Irene originally wanted to get off the bed but was stopped by him.
"Would you like so soup first?" he asked, seeking her opinion.
Irene was a bit dazed and just nodded instinctively.
Asher Land scooped a bowl of soup, then sat beside Irene’s bed. His hand gently stirred the soup in the bowl to cool it down a bit before bringing the spoon to Irene’s lips.
Irene’s eyes were blurred with tears, so he intended to personally feed her?
She opened her mouth, but her gaze was fixed on him.
Asher Land deliberately ignored her gaze, just feeding her spoonful by spoonful, attentively and gently.
Irene hadn’t eaten anything for the entire day, but with Asher Land’s companionship tonight, she more or less ate sothing.
He took a tissue and wiped her mouth.
"Are you full?" he asked.
"Yes." Irene nodded, "Thank you, Brother Asher."
He sat at the bedside for quite a while. When a maid ca to tidy up, he prepared to leave.
"Wait a minute." Irene called him.
Asher Land turned back, his gaze lingering on her for a mont, "Is there anything else?"
"Could you stay and chat with for a while?" Irene wasn’t sure if she was overstepping, but she really hadn’t spoken to anyone in a while, and she had no desire to talk to anyone else. But Asher Land was different.
Asher Land’s body stiffened for a mont. He rembered what Sophie had said to him not long ago.
She had said that he should spend more ti with Irene...
He hesitated for a mont but eventually sat back down at her bedside. Irene, rarely, broke into a big smile.
Asher Land was captivated by Irene’s smile, which was clean and pure, reminding him of when Irene was a child.
Seeing Asher Land just staring at her with tight lips and still a sowhat stern expression, Irene couldn’t help but feel a little anxious.
"I’m sorry, Brother Asher, do you not want to keep company? If you don’t want to..."
"It’s okay," Asher Land calmly responded. "I am willing to stay with you, especially since..."
His tone paused for a mont, "especially since Sophie also told to spend more ti with you."
The initial joy and anticipation in Irene’s eyes suddenly dissipated. So, the reason he ca up to feed her and was willing to talk with her was because he was ’asked by soone’...
