Sophie Smith closed her eyes. Was it over? She asked herself again in the depths of her heart.

"Sister Sophie, I’ll pay the price for the wrong things I’ve done." Irene Morton stood up, tears at the corners of her eyes, yet there was a faint smile on her lips.
She looked at Sophie Smith with an expression that turned unusually serious. Sophie Smith shook her head.
If Irene was going to pay the price for what she had done wrong, Sophie felt she had already been punished, and there was no such so-called need for it anymore. As long as she was willing to repent, that was really enough.
"Cooperate properly with the Doctor’s treatnt. You’ll get better soon, and go back to being the normal Irene Morton." After Sophie Smith finished speaking, she turned and prepared to leave. She had only taken a few steps when she turned back again. "I’ll take your breakfast down and heat it up, then I’ll bring it back up to you in a bit. It’ll be quick."
Irene Morton watched her leave, watched her close the door. Suddenly, the smile at the corner of her mouth grew even more bleak.
She had said she would pay the price for the wrong things she had done.
She took out the fruit knife hidden under the bed. Her gaze gradually dimd. She believed the best way to make up for it should be to use her own life as compensation.

Sophie Smith carried the breakfast downstairs. Asher Land frowned and glanced at the untouched food.
"What, she still refuses to eat?"
"Maybe she’s feeling down and doesn’t have much of an appetite." Sophie Smith carried the food into the kitchen, handed it to the maid, and then ca back out.
Asher Land’s gaze stayed fixed on her and he noticed that her eyes were red.
"What exactly were you two talking about upstairs just now?" His intuition had always been sharp. He was certain the conversation they’d had upstairs was anything but simple.
Sophie Smith was sowhat evasive about Asher Land’s question. After quite a while, the maid brought the breakfast out and handed it to Sophie.
"Um, co upstairs with . Irene hasn’t been eating much lately, but I heard that when you fed her last night, she ate, so..." Sophie tugged at his sleeve. "So the task of getting Irene to eat breakfast this morning is all up to you." Sophie’s tone was relaxed, revealing no sign that anything was wrong,
Asher Land hesitated for a mont, but still followed behind her as they went together to Irene Morton’s room.
As soon as the door was pushed open, a strong sll of blood rushed into their noses. A bad premonition rose in Sophie Smith’s heart. She didn’t hold the tray steady; it fell to the ground, food scattering everywhere.
Asher Land strode into the room. When he saw the scene before him, his pupils suddenly contracted and his eyes turned bloodshot.
He rushed out of the room, stood by the second-floor railing, and shouted furiously downstairs, "All Doctors, get up here right now!"
Sophie Smith was frightened by his reaction and hurried into the room as well.
"Ah!" she scread, instinctively raising her hand to cover her own mouth.
The scene before her was, for her, nothing less than a bolt from the blue.
Not long ago, when Irene was talking with her, she had still been fine. How had she suddenly beco like this?
She saw Irene Morton sitting on the floor, her body leaning against the bed, her face deathly pale, consciousness completely gone. There was a very deep gash on her wrist, the flesh turned outward, the white of the bone clearly visible. Blood was flowing out in streams, and the floor was covered in blood...
