After being in a coma for a day and a night, Irene Morton finally woke up.
She woke up in the middle of the night, surrounded by a single warm yellow, dim light. She parted her lips, only to find her mouth unbearably dry, unable to utter a word.
For a mont, everything seed so unreal to her, and she thought she had died...
She lifted her hand slightly, and a piercing pain suddenly shot through, causing her to let out a gasp.
Suddenly, the room’s light turned on, and in an instant, her vision beca clear and bright.
Asher Land’s delighted yet slightly anxious face slowly enlarged in her pupils.
"Brother Asher..." she spoke, her hoarse voice full of exhaustion. Asher Land stared at her for a long ti but never said a word.
Since she fell into a coma, he had been keeping vigil in her room. He was conscious, but the room’s light was too dim, so when Irene first woke up, he didn’t notice. But her slightest gasp just now caught his attention.
"Why did you do such a thing? Was it repentance?" A cold sneer curled at his lips, his eyes completely devoid of warmth.
It turned out that after she woke up, his first words were not comforting or full of care, but just a cold question.
"If I died, you and Sister Sophie could peacefully live your future lives. Isn’t that better?" She spoke weakly.
"Ha, should I then say, ’You’re truly great, thank you for your blessing’?" The sarcasm at the corner of his mouth deeply stung Irene’s eyes. She closed her eyes, and a line of tears slid from the corner of her eye.
He didn’t initially want to criticize her like this, but her actions this ti were indeed too much.
"Irene, let tell you, whether you die or not, you won’t ruin the relationship between Sophie Smith and , don’t think your death would be a favor or goodness to us."
Irene understood, he was simply telling her that her death would be redundant, like a joke.
"Then... Brother Asher, if I died, would you shed a tear for ?" If he shed a tear for her, she would feel she had died without regret.
She had fought and competed with Sophie Smith for so long, yet she hadn’t gained anything. If she could win his tears in the end, she thought, it should be a beautiful thing...
"No." He remained coldly resolute, "So, I’d advise you to keep on living because if you die, and no one sheds tears for you, don’t you think that’s far too tragic?"
"Asher Land!"
A clear voice rang outside the door, and Asher Land turned around in astonishnt, only to find that Sophie Smith had already been standing at the door without him knowing.
"What exactly are you saying?" After struggling to wake up, Irene was so downcast, yet he was speaking to her in such harsh terms?
"Did I say anything wrong? I look down on people who degrade themselves and make light of their lives." Although he was calmly composed, Sophie Smith knew he was already angry, only he was still considering that Irene was a severe patient, so he didn’t shout or lose his temper.
"Brother Asher, you only know how to criticize ." Irene struggled to sit up from the bed, looking at the two standing beside it, with her eyes lowered, concealing all emotions in her eyes, "I did this, wasn’t I just learning from you? After your car accident in those four years, would you dare say you never had thoughts of taking your life? Would you dare say you never considered suicide because of Sister Sophie?
